Loot Crate Harry Potter Wizarding World May 2017 - The Dark Arts - All Items In The Box

This month highlighted the more sinister side of the Harry Potter universe - it focused on The Dark Arts and the more evil characters that come with it.

This is the first month that the information sheet wasn't in scroll form. Open up the letter to reveal your items.

It's smaller than you might think - it measures 8.5 x 3.5 - but I think this can work well in a purse, or even in the car.

Loot Crate Harry Potter Wizarding World May 2017 - The Dark Arts - plate set packaging

Professor Umbridge 'Frolicsome Feline' Plates - Value $10-15?

The last item in this month's box is a set of 4 plates from the Professor that frustrated you the most - Professor Umbridge.

They take inspiration from the gif above and feature her favorite animal - cats!

These are plastic so they're hand wash only and NOT microwave safe.

Verdict: I'm torn on this month's Wizarding World Crate - on one hand, I think all of the designs were unique and fun, on the other, there's not a ton that is super useful to me - so I feel like I'll be giving a fair amount away. Overall, I like the designs - so I'm hopeful for better and better boxes moving forward.

I actually really liked this box!

I thought the shirt was fun and I like getting things from both HP and FB, and the quote is very nice!

The pin is my favorite item here, its awesome. I think Eric’s price estimate on it is wayyy off though. I collect pins from Universal and Disney and a pin like this would easily cost $10-15.

The Umbridge plates are my other favorite item. Although I hate her, the cats are just too adorable and these were hilarious. I’ll proudly display them once I get the chance.

The stationery set is just okay, I used one card already and it was very hard to find a writing utensil that would show up. The wax seal is cool though, my friend loved that.

The pencil bag is my least favorite because it will get the least use, maybe a makeup bag?

Am i the only person that liked the cat plates? I thought they were clever and cute and I just wish they were bigger…happily trade my “just another shirt” for bigger plates. I hate getting shirts in every single loot crate. At least they have calmed down on pops in recent years

They just sent me an email saying they are increasing the cost of this box by $2. Since I didn’t think I was getting a good value to begin with, that is the nail in the cancel coffin.
Sorry Loot. 🙁

Dawn

I got an email they are increasing it $3. Definitely based on this crate it is NOT worth it.

Allison

Weird, maybe the increase is less based on the length of your subscription? I had a six month deal that expired this month. The only box I liked was March’s (House Specific) for the great Hufflepuff gear.

My 13 year old LOVED this box- every bit of it!

I absolutely LOVED this box and the box before. The items are unique, meaningful and fun.

I used the plates for snacks at my weekend get together and they were a hit!
The T-shirt is in my wardrobe rotation and I feel so cool wearing it.
The zipper bag is in use in my purse and is a great conversation piece.
The pin is on my backpack, LOVE.
The stationary and stamp is so creative and fun too! Looking forward to sending letters to friends.

Love love love. Can’t wait for the next box!

I cancelled my subscription a couple of days ago. First, why put a couple of cat plates in a Dark Arts box. I know that they belonged to Umbridge but still are they trying to say cats are evil? Lol. I think that they should’ve had a full diary not a pin. The pin would’ve cool I’d it had been Voldemorts’ symbol not the diary pin. Stationary set seems like a cheap thing to include. Wax stick and wax seal were okay. Azkaban pouch was the best Dark Arts item. The t-shirt was awesome, it was the item in the ongoing fantastic beasts series set. They could’ve had better items in this box.

This was such a bust for my son, who is 19 (today! LOL). He liked the shirt and the pin, but everything else…seriously not man-friendly.

I’m giving them one more box to get it right, but if not, I quit. I really REALLY wanted to love this box.

Just cancelled yesterday.
Like the idea of a JK Rowling sub box but after 3 months of nothing really wowed me, I just have to let it go.
Still subbed to Sanrio tho 😉

The March house box was great for me because one of those items probably would have cost the same as the entire box. But this dark arts box was so disappointed for me. Nothing I would use. The cards and wax seal is cool but you’d have to get a silver or gold sharpie just to write in it (or stick a piece of paper in another color on it)
I recently got a job at wizarding world in california (start in two weeks!) so I can get HP merch there. I think I can cancel this box after my 3 months are up. Unless they have another cool theme

This makes me thankful I don’t get this box.

My children have to share the boxes, so this box was for my youngest. She was so disappointed. For the last one, she was so jealous of the hat and bag. For this one, she felt cheated. And I don’t blame her. It is lame. The tshirt is extremely long, the black cards aren’t very usable and have a kind of lame pattern from Chamber of Secrets, and the plates don’t come with any way to display them. She’s excited to do the wax seal, but that’s it. Overall, two thumbs down and a very poor use of my money!!!

The pin is cool concept, but it’s hard to look at and ID as the diary and fang. I still think the plates are pretty useless too. I keep wanting to pull the trigger and sub, but it somehow seems disappointing.

Hey Eric, might want to edit the line in this review that says “this is the first house-specific box” 😉

Reply ButtonReply

Eric Cadman

grrr. i always miss something! Thank you!

Juliya

” this was the first house-specific box, themed “Dark Arts”.” Eric, I think you got this wrong 🙂
This box has nothing to do with the Hogwarts houses.

But I agree with you, a lot of items are fun but not very useful (at least to me, too).
If anyone is interested I put most of them for swap.

I am willing to sell any items that I have listed for swap. Let me know if you’re interested!

lol those plates are the best! I think a pink angora cardigan would have been hilarious to go with these.

This box was SUPER disappointing to me. Which item was the first in a series of collectibles??

Anyone selling their box? I didn’t see anything on swap but would like to purchase.
