Loot Crate vs Nerd Block - Geek Box Showdown

It's time to take a quick look at April's geek boxes!

Just a note before starting - Since geek boxes are including more and more exclusive items, it's becoming harder to get a real value, so I figured I'd give a fair estimate of those items. Also, if the review has a value range - I took the high-end of the range.

About the April 2017 Nerd Block

This month's theme was Dressed To Kill. It included items from James Bond, The Godfather, Anchorman, Marvel, and two Joker items! This might have been the most far-out Nerd Block in terms of franchises - but they really pulled it together around the theme!

About the April 2017 Geek Fuel

Geek Fuel doesn't have themes, but they typically spoil 2-3 franchises. This month included South Park, Zelda, TMNT, Deadpool, and a Steam game. Geek Fuel might be the best at sending really fun and unique exclusive items - this month didn't disappoint!

About the April 2017 Marvel Collector Corps

The April Collector Corps theme was 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'. This month's delivery had two huge vinyl figures - the Rocket + Groot POP AND a Star-Lord in the Milano Dorbz ride! Along with those big ticket items, you also get Secret Empire #0, the patch + pin set, and a POP shirt.

Loot Crate vs Nerd Block - April 2017 - Marvel Collector Corps - Star-Lord and Milano Dorbz Ride

I've never been a Dorbz fan, but this one is just INCREDIBLE - it was tough to choose between this and the Rocket POP, but this one was just real fun.

Loot Crate vs Nerd Block - April 2017 - Sci-Fan Block - The Twilight Zone Figure

I've watched too many Twilight Zone episodes to count with my mom growing up - so this was an easy pick this month! I might have to collect more!

Loot Crate vs Nerd Block - April 2017 - Loot Crate DX - Batman Keychain Statue

I'm a statue collector, so this item really spoke to me - it's not the most detailed statue, but it's currently on display.

Verdict

Best Geek Box

Geek Fuel. Every item was a winner for me in the April box - but the Zelda rug was just a fun and unique inclusion!

Best Geek Box Item

Star-Lord Milano Dorbz Ride. There were a few great items this month - but this item had me giddy, so it has to win.

I actually have gotten to like LootCrate more now because they offer the free digital comics and puzzle solving element to their subscription. It is very innovative to have each item in the box as a tool for solving individual puzzle challenges. I feel it has added immensely to the value and fun of the subscription.

I will say one of the nice things about NerdBlock is that if one of their other blocks looks better that month, you can change it up. I got the Sci-Fan box this month (the one above, which I loved) because the Classic box spoilers weren’t really exciting to me. This month, I’m getting BOTH the Classic and the Sci-Fan! The downside is, I think they’ve sucked me into 2 subs when I used to have 1!

I sub to loot crate and dx and the geek gear wizard wearables but it was hard to decide which one I liked best. I liked some of all of them but I wasn’t excited about any of them per say only because of the subject not product. I’ve been with loot crate the longest (my first ever sub) so I tend to like them best but last few months (except march I loved) has been ehh. I branched out this month trying zbox and super geek to see how I like them.

The Sci-Fan box is amazing; I wish I’d been subscribing to that!

Also, I’ve been watching reviews of Lootcrate for as long as it’s been around and had the impression it had gone downhill, but I have to say that both the original and DX crates this month look great.
