New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a digital subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.

This is the latest shipment from New Beauty Test Tube 2.0 - they promise 10 full or deluxe size items in every box.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: New Beauty Test Tube

The Cost: $29.95 a box plus $8.95 shipping (ships every other month)

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty products. (This subscription also includes a subscription to New Beauty Magazine).

Ships to: US only

Check out all my New Beauty Test Tube reviews, and the Beauty Subscription Box List!

Each box comes with a booklet that details every item included.

Now, onto the items!

Farmhouse Fresh Shea Butter Hand Cream - FULL SIZE! Value $14

I received "Pink Moon," and the booklet shows "Whoopie Cream," so it is safe to assume that scents will vary.

This hand cream is gluten free, vegan, paraben free, and sulfate free! The scent is described as "a dreamy Texas night sky with notes of licorice blossom, powder and spun sugar." I definitely got the powder and sugar from the cream. It's a really sweet scent - it reminds me of Pink Sugar perfume.

The hand cream formula is great. It's rich and moisturizing but didn't leave my hands feeling greasy.

Marula Oil Rare Oil Style Perfecting Serum - FULL SIZE! Value $28

While the hand cream might be a tad too sweet for me, this hair serum fragrance is PERFECT! It's a lightweight hair oil that helps give your hair a little extra shine and softness. (Helps with flyaways, too.)

The directions instruct you to use this only on damp hair, but I tried it on dry hair as well and loved the results.

Hair Food Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner - FULL SIZE! Value $10

Sometimes when I'm reviewing boxes, I put any shower items in the shower as soon as I get them so I don't forget to use them. I did that with this product but didn't look at the booklet before I got in the shower, so I wasn't 100% sure how to use it. Cleansing Conditioner means skip shampoo right? But NOWHERE on the bottle do they explicitly instruct you to skip shampoo and use this only.

Perhaps this is really obvious, but in my tired state, I decided to just use it as a regular conditioner, and it worked well. (If you aren't into cleansing conditioners, this one works just as well as your standard conditioner.)

Colorscience Sunforgettable Brush-On Sunscreen SPF 50 - 2 g Value $21

This sample is 1/3 the size of the full-size version.

This is a loose mineral sunscreen with a built in blush applicator:

The design is slick, and I'd say the only hesitation I had with using it at first was that it was tricky to see if I was applying enough (the powder blends in really well).

Here is a closer look at the powder:

I received the shade Medium. (Not sure if there will be shade variation in this box.)

I found the powder to blend in to be pretty invisible. The great thing about this is that you can easily use it over makeup. Or if you're going makeup free, it will give you just a bit of coverage.

Bio-Oil – .5 oz Value $1.50

This is a lightweight oil designed to help with stretch marks, discoloration, and scars. I hate when cosmetic companies add artificial dyes to products that don't need them, but besides that, I think this is an impressive body oil for the price point.

(It amazingly gets good reviews when it comes to stretch marks, too!)

Luzern Labs (2-piece kit) - Total Value $19

Luzern Urban Protect Daily Moisturizer – 10 ml

(Good to know for swaps – this product has an inner foil seal.)

This set includes the daily moisturizer pictured above and a foil packet of the Urban Protect Detox Masque (4 ml). (Forgot to take a picture of the mask – will add that soon!)

The creamy mask is designed to protect your skin while unclogging pores. It left my skin feeling super clean and smooth, but my skin was red for about 15 minutes after I removed it. (I think that’s normal for this type of mask, but I recommend spot testing it first if you have sensitive skin.)

The daily moisturizer is a lightweight, yellow gel/cream hybrid that felt lovely going on my skin after I removed the mask. (And it absorbed quickly, too!)

Cailyn Dizzolv’It – .44 oz Value $6.25

This product was in a New Beauty Test Tube before (January 2016), but I'm ok with the repeat because Dizzolv'It is amazing!

This product is a “Makeup Melt Cleansing Balm.” It is an oil formula you use to remove makeup by applying it to dry skin and massage to remove all makeup. It worked almost instantaneously on my hard-to-remove eyeliner and left my skin super smooth after washing it off with water.

Also worth noting, this item and the following brush are not listed in the booklet - so there may be some item variation.

Diane by Fromm Mini Oval Paddle Brush - Value $7

This isn't a high-end brush, but it's a great travel spare!

Works well enough to be your only brush on a trip, and cheap enough so that you don't care if you accidentally leave it behind!

Miss Spa Hydrogel Eye Treatment Deep Wrinkle - Value $7

I love that these are sulfate, paraben, and fragrance free!

But unfortunately, these weren't for me. They kept slipping off!

And considering you are supposed to wear them for 45 minutes, that wasn't going to work. After about 10 minutes of constantly readjusting them on my face, I gave up!

Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Serum - 5 ml Value $11.70

This serum is designed to help brighten and hydrate skin. I didn't notice any instant results, and the sample isn't large enough to try it over a few weeks, but I can tell you that the lightweight formula is gentle!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $125. I think the value is fantastic, and I LOVE that they are including lots of new brands in this new version of New Beauty Test Tube. (Previously, there were a good amount of repeat brands.) Lots of full-size items this month, too!

Hair Food. Is it to be used as a ‘latherless’ shampoo, or is only used as a conditioner AFTER shampooing with my choice of shampoo? Seem to read conflicting opinions.

They make both shampoo and conditioner, so you may have read about different products. This is a cleansing conditioner, so it should be used to both wash and condition, but it should be more conditioning than a conditioning shampoo.

I received 1 oz B&B calming mist instead of brush. Love all items.

Maria

I also received the calming mist instead of the brush 🙂

Me too, and someone else I know received a brow product. Bio Oil, Cailyn Makeup Melt, and this variable item are not in the booklet.

Did anyone have problems with the derma flash they received? I had ordered two boxes and the derma flash machines in both of them did not work until we went out and bought extra blades

I’m so glad I got this box! I mean I usually get it anyways but I’m especially excited for this one because there’s a lot of products I’ve never tried before same as last month, for me. I hope I get the brush and spray!

My daughter and I get many month sub boxes and this is one I always look forward to ripping open. I always get products that I haven’t seen before in other boxes. I love the full size or larger deluxe sizes sent in this box. I have never felt cheated by the value of this box and they send quality brands. Many times we get the same items over and over again in the regular monthly boxes but this box is always fresh and new. This is my favorite sub box.

This is my tried and true box. I accept there are mishaps (the expired item from the 1-time purchase, damaged products), but they own up to these and always go an extra step to make it right. That’s a huge plus for me.
I appreciate the variety of products, (excluding that it’s a 10 box- but that was so awesome that even a few friends benefited:), the full + deluxe sized Products, and that they hit different price points. I can use these enough to see if I like them, and some of them I actually end up buying.

I received an It Cosmetics Brow Power Pencil instead of the brush. Both wins, and so happy that the variations are quality and comparable. Thumbs up from me!

*I checked expiration dates, upcoming is the Farmhouse lotion- 8/17. Check your products!

Tarah, I totally agree with you on this box. In fact, the last bimonthly box the toothbrush was just so awesome. I am glad they choose different products. I didn’t get the brush in mine this month but that was ok. I do like the lotion and I would have never heard of it had it not been for this box. When the box came out that had the 10 products I was in heaven. The value is just incredible.

I love this sub and have been getting it for 5 years or more now. The hair brush is my new favorite, I’ve already used up the Dizzolv’it, used the cleansing conditioner, and can’t wait to use the rest! I do wish the color science was full size though! For the record, sometimes they do have make up as I have several products from them over the years, just less than most subs.

Bonnie

I always consider dropping this sub, because it’s a little pricier than most, has no makeup, and is just generally not exciting. But…I hang in for one more, and while not as glam as pretty colored stuff, there are just always more than 40 bucks worth of winners in here and so I can’t let it go. I just really end up liking, using, and enjoying the majority of the items they send. I really don’t want sunscreens, and this time of year, all the subs seem to have them, but otherwise, I can’t part with TestTube.

There’s definitely variations–I got the Cailyn cleansing balm, but I also received a full size Board and Batten Calming Spray instead of the hairbrush. I think its a repeat product, but at a $30 value, I’m not complaining. Did anyone else receive this or any other variation?

Reply ButtonReply

Sharon

I got the Board and Batten instead of the brush as well.

Christie

I also got the B&B instead of the brush, but it’s not full size — only 1oz (vs 4 oz for $30). Still excited though, it gets great reviews! I love my NBTT. Second only to Beauty Fix for me.

Susan

I received this one too. The bio-oil is not in the book so that, the Dissolveit and Board and batten calming lift or brush are extras. I need to read up on the calming lift. All products look pretty good to me

Tamara

The fact that there is no makeup at all is the only thing that keeps me from subbing. I’d love to find a box like this that has a good mix of makeup and skincare/other items.

Reply ButtonReply

Ang

Tamara you would love FabFitFun. That box is a lifestyle box and it has makeup, skincare, haircare, etc. I have never been disappointed in any of their boxes. You should check it out😀

Tamara

It’s on my radar and looks amazing! I think I’m going to give it a try. Thanks!

Kari

Not my favorite box by fare, I usually can find a couple of items that I really like and use but this box was a hard pass for me…anyone up for swapping?!

Marija

I love Test Tube sub. I am surprised to see so many negative comments. This is my 2nd box from them and I have been very happy. Variety of items ( skin care, hair, tools, personal items), and so many full sizes. Thanks to Test Tube I have already repurchased some products that otherwise I wouldn’t buy.

Siren

I want to love this box, but after trying it a few times, I’m just not excited about it 🙁 Most of these items aren’t new, so I’m not all excited about them. Bio Oil has been around for years, and the Hair Food isn’t new either. When I look at the picture, it just doesn’t look like many items.

Maybe I just sub to too many boxes and have too much stuff coming all time, not sure… but this box doesn’t do it for me. I wish it did. It seems like they used to send so many more items and create more excitement.

Not super impressed. I may already be reaching saturation level….

Liz, if we sign up today, will we get this box?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

I believe so, but I’m going to reach out to New Beauty to double check.

Julie

Is it weird that I want to get this just to see if the Colorscience sunscreen applicator will work for my powder foundation?

Reply ButtonReply

Jeanette

When it comes to finding products we want, there is nothing weird about it, especially in the sub box world!

FYI – HauteLook sells this Color Science sunblock frequently, usually at a 50% or greater discount.

Jessica

Would LOVE to swap for the colorscience- my mother loves brush on sunscreen like that.
