Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - all items in the May 2017 box

May didn't have a theme, but they did hint at a number of franchises. May's box featured Predator, Firefly, Masters of the Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Harry Potter, and Stranger Things - A really strong lineup!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - May 2017 item information

Each month comes with a booklet that details every item in the box - including the different variants of the figure and pin that you could have received.

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Predator 'Get To The Choppa' Shirt

Predator Shirt - Value $15?

This month's exclusive shirt features the most famous line from the movie Predator - "Get Tp The Choppa"!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Predator 'Get To The Choppa' Shirt close up on the graphic

I'm loving this shirt - but was surprised that it doesn't feature Arnold's character, Dutch, in the graphic!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 mug packaging

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 baby groot mug graphic

Guardians of the Galaxy Baby Groot Mug - Value $10-15 base on other Surreal Entertainment mugs

I can't find this exact mug online - so I'm ballparking the value based on prices of the brand's similar mugs on Amazon. The mug features Baby Groot being mischievous with mixtape Vol. 2!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 baby groot mug other side

The mug itself is pretty standard - with the same graphic on either side.

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - masters of the Universe He-Man figure

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - He-Man figure out of the box

Super7 Master of the Universe He-Man Figure - Value $20+?

The original version of this retro figure is selling for $40+ on Amazon - I believe because it was a Comic Con exclusive. This one is also an exclusive variant - it glows in the dark!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - He-Man figure close up

Yay for glow in the dark variants!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Masters of the Universe He-Man figure back of packaging

You'd receive one of three figures this month - He-Man, Man-At-Arms, and Sorceress.

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Firefly socks in packaging

Firefly Socks - Value $10-12?

This month includes a pair of exclusive Firefly socks as well.

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - both Firefly socks

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Firefly socks combine to make one graphic

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Firefly socks detail shot

These are exactly the same as the Futurama socks from the February Nerd Block Classic box. These are thin, and REALLY tight on my foot - to the point that my foot was falling asleep - that was a big bummer for me.

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Harry Potter pin in packaging

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Harry Potter pin close up

Harry Potter Enamel Pin - Value $5.95

This month comes with a pin from Harry Potter - you'd receive on of the three best friends - Harry, Hermione, or Ron - I got Harry!

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Stranger Things Eleven print

Stranger Things Print - Value $10?

Finally, you'll receive an exclusive print - this print features the same graphic as the September 2016 Shirt Block.

Sci Fan Block - May 2017 - Stranger Things print detail

It's got embossed text at the bottom as well. Definitely one of their best shirts, and now the best print, across their blocks!

Verdict: I was really excited when hearing about the franchises for the May box - and they really delivered. My biggest issue is with the really tight socks, which might not be an issue for everyone - besides that, I really liked every other item in the box. We got all different types of items as well, a home item, wearables, figure, a print, and a pin - nicely done!

I really liked this month’s box and items. I got lucky to receive the Gitd He-man as well. Received Ron pin, woulda preferred the Harry one, but no biggie, will prob try and trade or buy the other two, along with the other Masters of the Universe figures =) And super stoked that I got a tshirt that red instead of another black shirt lol.

‘Get to the choppa’ is actually from the movie True Lies, its a classic Arnold line.

Maybe he said it in True Lies, but he definitely said it first in Predator (1987). He yells it at Anna after part of his team dies. He probably said it in True Lies as a small parody of Predator.

Yep – definitely originates in Predator.

I like the way this box veers a bit retro – the He-Man figure and the Predator shirt are great ideas. As for the lack of Arnold, I’m guessing his image rights are a bit more expensive than most for t-shirt producers…

That does make sense. I actually like that it features only the other characters.
