Shtrands is a subscription box that sends you customized hair care regimens from a team of hairstylists and cosmetic chemists every two months. The hair care regimen includes 4 full sized cleansing, conditioning and styling products. Products included in the box should last you two months. At any point in the subscription, you can choose to receive a completely new regimen or a mix of new products and ones you have already received and loved.
Each box sends your products in a canvas bag. This bag easily fits all four products with some extra room so it's great for storing more hair products. I've been using mine a lot when traveling and it holds up really well.

Each box includes a personalized information card. I filled out a hair profile so these products are based on my specific needs. After you receive your first box you can provide feedback to get the same or different products. My hair is really thick and has a tendency to dry out. I asked for one repeat product and the rest are new to me! My main goals are to manage the frizziness of my hair and find a way to keep it really conditioned without crossing the line into greasiness.
The handwritten information card includes instructions and explanations for each product. My repeat item and one new item was from Abril et Nature, a brand out of Barcelona. Every item in my last box was from that company and I really liked the quality. The other new items in this month's box are from Teadora, a brand I'm familiar with but hadn't actually tried yet!
Let's get into the products!
Abril et Nature Silk Instant Mask Treatment - Value $24?
I asked for a repeat of one item from my last box and that was the mask treatment from Abril et Nature. The instructions for this item in the last box were to use this mask once a week. I really loved using this sporadically when I felt my hair needed a moisture boost and I loved it just as much this time around. I used this in place of my regular conditioner and it makes a significant difference in the silkiness of my hair. This formula is made for hair that has been colored or bleached. I recently had my hair bleached because I'm trying to get my hair back to my natural blonde so this treatment is nice to have on hand. I don’t have to use this too often but I’m excited to have this around as we move into warmer weather because I swim a lot and my hair will definitely love the extra conditioning then!
Abril et Nature Splendor Essence - Value $18?
This is a slightly different serum from the Abril et Nature one in my last box. This Splendor Essence contains argan oils, apricot rose, green tea, black tea and wheat germ. It also has natural stem cell extract filtrate. This is the kind of serum that can make me a bit nervous because it seems like it could be easy to use too much and get a wet look that I don’t want. It has a very thin consistency so I’ve been careful to start off with tiny amounts and work my way up. A little bit of this product does go a long way which is nice because I think this will last me a long time. I actually still have a bit of my last Abril et Nature serum leftover! The information card explains that this can be used on wet or dry hair to add some shine and definition. I initially used this on dry hair to deal with flyaway and some frizziness. Once I tried this on wet hair, I quickly committed to that use. I’ve been using a tiny pump and applying to my wet hair right before I get out of the shower. I typically air dry my hair and this does add a little definition to my the natural wave of my hair while also helping to lock in the silkiness from my conditioner. This is another product I’m excited to have as we move into the season where humid weather becomes my hairs mortal enemy.
Teadora Nourishing Shampoo - Value $28
Teadora is a brand I’ve heard of and seen before but hadn’t tried out. This shampoo is supposed to be “superfood for your hair” and it contains acas, burrito, cupuaçu, piranga, and andiroba. Acai is high in antioxidants and vitamins, while cupuaçu is a moisturizer that should help will elasticity and texture. Buriti has a high concentration of vitamin A and is a natural UC ray protectant. Teadora also mentions that it should help with scalp health. The instruction card suggested using a little more than usual to help it lather up. I only used slightly more than I normally would and I had no problem working up a small lather. The scent of this shampoo is very mild and fresh. I noticed that my hair had more of a squeaky clean feeling after I rinsed this out. Sometimes that feeling can leave my hair feeling dry but my hair felt normal. I have a somewhat sensitive to dry scalp and this felt refreshing and nice!
Teadora Nourishing Conditioner - Value $28
To go along with the nourishing shampoo is the nourishing conditioner! My information card suggested using plenty of conditioner so that’s what I did! The first few times I tried out these products I just used the shampoo and conditioner without following up with serum or anything else. This conditioner is really creamy and includes the same active ingredients as the shampoo - açaí, buriti, and cupuaçu. The scent is slightly stronger and a little more perfumed than the shampoo but it’s still really fresh. I used a little more conditioner than normal and let it sit on my hair for a few minutes before rinsing out. While the shampoo left me with a squeaky clean feeling, this left my hair really silky and smooth. When I used just the shampoo and conditioner, I let my hair air dry and was able to run my fingers through it easily before using a brush. I found that when I introduced the Splendor Essence and occasional Abril et Nature mask into my routine, I was able to use less of this conditioner. A fun bonus to Teadora products is that they’re 100% Vegan!
Verdict: This was my second order from Shtrands and I really liked the selection this month! I really loved the mask from my first box and was happy to get that again. I've also wanted to try Teadora for a while and was really excited to see those. My first order lasted just about two months and I recently chopped a lot of my hair off so I feel like this order will definitely last even longer. My estimated cost for these items is around $98. That feels like a great value for $59 and it's really nice having someone pick out quality products for you! I'm not a hair expert so it can be a little overwhelming to pick out products when the options seem endless. This eliminates that confusion and each product has worked out for me so far!
