There was an information card in the box listing the items. It also had my cats’ names – even Angus!
Button Down Dress Shirt + Cargo Pants Costume from Cat Couture – Listed Value $45
The full cat costumes that come in this box always make me laugh. I think it would be impossible to beat the dinosaur costume from a few months ago, but this outfit is pretty awesome, too. Monkey put up with it and Mr. Kitty attacked me when I tried to put it on him. (I did not even make the attempt with the other three.)
Organic Catnip Taco Toy from Housecat Club – Value $6
This is pretty cute and well-made. We have another one of these from some other cat box and it has lasted for months. The kitties all seemed interested in this, and it was nice and small, which is their preference.
Organic Catnip Salsa Verde Toy from Polydactyl Cats – Value $6?
This isn’t quite the same as the toy in the Polydactyl Etsy shop, but it is only missing the felt “sauce” part, so I just knocked a dollar off the price showing there. At any rate, this was super popular – even Mr. Kitty got in on the action, which you will see below.
Individual Lychee Candy
There’s usually small (for humans) candy with this box. I think of it as a fun extra and not really a major contributor to the box’s value.
Natural Whole Tuna Loin from Applaws (1.06 oz) – Value $2.19
This is pretty much what it says. It was a little rich for Sneaky on its own (Monkey mostly licked the broth), so I’d suggest giving only a part at a time to a single cat, or sharing among several cats. They did enjoy it, though!
Steak Frites with Beef and Pumpkin in Gravy from Weruva (3 oz) – Value $1.61 (buy a case of 24 for $38.64)
You’ll usually get a package of premium cat food with this subscription, as well. I do like to feed my cats food like this, but don’t always want to buy a case because what if they don’t like it? But trying one can or pouch at a time is great. The kitties liked this a lot (especially Sneaky, who is a beef fanatic) – all of them wanted to eat it and all of them got a little (except Mr. Kitty, who can’t have it due to his IBD).
Cat photos ahead…
Angus with the taco toy.
Angus is a little afraid to butt in here.
But he gets an opportunity when the other cats (finally) get full.
Here is a photo series in three parts: 1. Madison is hiding under the bed.
2. Madison decides to come out and share with the other cats.
3. Madison has the plate to himself for a moment. (Notice how he never fully leaves the safety of being under the bed.)
Some shots of Monkey in the costume. I think I like the first one best. I also like how all his belly fur is on display.
Monkey with the taco toy.
Monkey rubbing his head on a toy.
All my photos of Sneaky were like this, this month. All she wants to do is eat. (She’s on prednisolone for her asthma until her inhaler arrives. And the prednisolone makes her want to eat, eat, eat.)
Some photos of Mr. Kitty in the costume. That is pure and utter rage in the third photo. I have lots and lots of bloody bite marks on my arms now.
Now he seems to have resigned himself to his fate…
At least there is one happy picture of Mr. Kitty to close the review with.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $60.80 for the May 2017 Whiskerbox. Even if you think the value for the costume is a little high, that is about $20 over the cost of the subscription. Plus, the toys are from indie makers and you don’t have to pay separate shipping on them. I always have fun dressing Monkey and Mr. Kitty up, and the treats are always a huge success with this box. This was another fun month for us from Whiskerbox!
