Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods. It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans.
I kind of like these plastic cases. They look to be a good size for storing beads or other craft supplies (and goodness knows, I have enough of those…).
This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: Box of Happies
The Cost: $29.99/month for a single upcoming month of your choice (when I played with the shopping cart I was also charged tax but I think that’s because they’re in the same state I am) or $29.49 for a random box from a past month; save with longer subscriptions. You can also add a bar of soap or candle to your box for $6.49, or a piece of jewelry for $8.

Included was an information card listing the items in the box.
Box of Happies Earrings – Listed Value $10.00
Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $12.00
This is a jewelry-heavy subscription, but if something is not to your taste, it is usually packaged nicely for gifting. In this case, I happen to like the metal finish, because I have been exploring brass and patinas in my own jewelry making. I also like the filigree pattern and that the set matches without being 100% the same. I don’t know what metal the earring hooks are, but those can easily be painted over with clear nail polish if you have a metal sensitivity (which I do).
Bad Baby Quilts Tissue Holder – Listed Value $4.00
Travel Pack of Kleenex – Value $0.71
OK, so the Kleenex weren’t on the information card, but I am totally counting the value because they could’ve opted not to include them and just tell us what the item was. This is a very useful item for me. I have about a dozen of these packages of Kleenex in my purse, but I lose them in among my other things all the time. The tissue holder will help them stand out and also protect them when the packages are less full.
Bad Baby Quilts is an Etsy shop but it is not currently open, so I took the value from the information card.
Bella Kate Designs Bottle Opener – Value $9.99
There are lots of enameled bottle openers in various styles and colors available in this Etsy shop. Something like this would be a nice touch to go along with a gift of craft beer or some other bottled beverage. This is very substantial and not flimsy at all (i.e., it won’t break), and the finish (of both the enamel and the metal) is high quality. You could probably figure out a way to put it on a keychain so that you’d always have a bottle opener with you. (I have seen a situation where a keychain bottle opener saved the day…)
The Verdict: I calculated a value of about $36.70 for the June 2017 Box of Happies. That’s another really good value for this subscription. As always, I learned about some new independent makers, and the jewelry was a particularly good fit for me this month in terms of color and style.
What did you think of the June Box of Happies? Do you get any artisan or handmade subscriptions?
