Now that summer is in full swing, my box was packaged in the warm weather insulated container. It's a sturdy styrofoam box that can definitely be reused to insulate soda or beer cans. And they also included a freezer pack and wrapped the chocolates in an aluminum bubble envelope. This week has been super warm in my area, and the chocolate arrived intact as normal, so I'm glad to see the quality and consideration Chococurb takes!
There was no information card included in this month's box, so let's dive right in!
La Naya Chocolate Orange & Juniper Milk Chocolate, 2.82 oz. - Value $6.50
There are so many interesting packages in this month's Chococurb, but I made a beeline for this chocolate first. The beautifully illustrated and sturdy package measures 4.5" x 8" - definitely the largest chocolate bar I've ever seen!
The chocolate itself is also the most beautiful bar I've ever seen too. The handmade and gluten-free milk chocolate is handcrafted into 3-dimensional triangles and is really stunning. The orange flavor is apparent and blends nicely with the 54% cacao. This bar is a winner all-around and a great start to this month's box.
Joe Chocolates Midnight Coconut, 2.5 oz. - Value $7.49
Oh man, I think this bark-style dark chocolate just topped the orange bar. It is a blend of semi-sweet dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and toasted coconut. In addition to the buzzing energy it provides, I really enjoyed the crunchiness of the coffee beans and coconut toppings. For $7.49, you get a pretty small package and it's hard not to devour this chocolate in one sitting. Regardless, it was a treat to try a Seattle-based artisan chocolate I wouldn't have known about otherwise!
Fran's Chocolates Almond Goldbites, 0.9 oz. - Value $3 (buy 10 bars for $30 or 20 bars for $55 on Fran's Chocolates)
I like the Chococurb typically sends chocolate bars as well as confections. Last month they sent Fran's Chocolates sea salt caramels that were fantastic and this month, I am delighted to try a dark chocolate, caramel, and almond goldbite. The ingredients are organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, and fair trade. And really tasty!
This reminds me of a mini Mayana bar, and to be honest, I'm glad only a bite-size confection was sent. It's super rich and quite sugary.
Seattle Chocolates Fresh Mint Truffle Bar, 2.5 oz. - Value $3.75
Last month was my first time trying Seattle's Chocolates, and I'm happy to see a new flavor in this month's Chococurb. The packaging is the most adorable and reminds me of a good friend, who is also a chocolate-lover...I may have to gift her a bar! There are a lot of April references (ie. April Fools, Easter) which seems a little odd for a June box, so as much as I hope Chococurb continues to send this brand, I also hope they can send a more seasonally-appropriate variety. There are so many fun options - Lemon Ice, anyone?
Inside the beautiful packaging are four chocolate rectangles, with a familiar zebra-esque texture. This bar is milk chocolate, mint, and chocolate cookies - so basically a softer version of a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie. So delicious and oddly refreshing!
Chocolate Moderne Solbeso Mi Mucho Avant Garde Bar, 2.5 oz. - Value $9
What is this unique 9-square caramel-colored chocolate, you ask? I was wondering the same. It's blond chocolate, which I've never tried before! There's a white chocolate and creamy taste, likely due to the cream and butter ingredients. It's topped with vanilla and dark chocolate and overall really tasty.
Inside each square is Solbeso, which is distilled cacao liquor. There's a softness to each bite, but it's not runny.
Dilettante Chocolates Chocolate Covered Cherries, 1.5 oz. - Value $2.75
Last up this month is a small package of chocolate covered cherries. I love traditional chocolate covered cherries, so I was excited to tear this bag open! Inside I found a handful of pink quarter-sized balls that reminded me of malt balls at Easter time.
And upon first bite, I tasted cherries and chocolate, but none of the liquid or cream you would expect. The firm chewiness leads me to believe maybe these are chocolate covered dried cherries? Yep, the Dilettante Chocolates website confirmed so. They're good, but not what I was expecting.
Verdict: This is hands down my favorite box from Chococurb to date! I received six unique artisan chocolate goodies, worth $32.49. This month, I factored in the warm weather shipping material costs, so, unfortunately, that means the value of the box contents falls way short of what I would have paid for the box ($35 + $16 warm weather shipping). I am impressed that Chococurb is committed to executing quality shipments during the summer, but the total cost compared to the content value has me reconsidering this subscription for myself. However, I do think Chococurb would make a great gift if you are willing to pay the upcharge because you have the insurance that quality, artisan chocolate will arrive at your recipient intact and ready to enjoy! And of course, you can use our ADDICTION coupon to save 10% off your first box!
