This box came with a fold out sheet that details the beauty item for the month and the new colors launched.

Now, on to the items!

Julep usually includes a bonus item like candy in every box. And I appreciate that they add a card with ingredients:

Julep Nail Polish in Jaydra - Retail Value $14

I think this is my favorite Julep nail polish color of all time!

It's described as a "Tuscan Rose Sheer Holographic." It's a deep blush, with shimmer, and it takes two coats for full coverage.

FYI - you can remove the cap to swatch the sticker on the lid!

Here it is on:

Julep Cushion Complexion in 210 Cashmere - Value $30

This is a brand new item from Julep, and I needed to try it out!

I like the texture of the cushion applicator - it gave me a smooth and even finish. The formula worked well for me, too. I could get medium to full coverage without having a caked-on look.

Here it is swatched:

Julep Eye Makeup Eraser - Value $10

I ordered this because it seems so convenient, and then when it arrived I remember why I've struck out with items like this in the past - even though they remove makeup, the makeup usually remains on the felt tip of the pen, so you're never really using a clean version of it for other makeup removal jobs.

And then I noticed this product gets really mixed reviews on Julep. I, fortunately, didn't get a scratchy tip applicator like some reviewers mentioned, and it removed makeup well. I still prefer my standard q-tip and makeup remover, but this is definitely ideal to keep in your purse, or for travel.

(Given the mixed reviews on Julep's site, I'm guessing this item has some quality control issues, and I don't recommend purchasing it.)

And this box also included a coupon for a free polish with your next purchase.

Verdict: I'm thrilled with my polish selection and the new concealer pen from Julep. The makeup remover pen is a bit of a bust, but that's partially on me for selecting it in the first place! Even if I exclude that item, I'm happy with the value, though!

What did you think of the Julep Julep Maven box? Which items did you pick this month? (If you tried the new mascara and you recommed it, let me know!)

Do you think Julep will ever have a sign-up gift that’s not nail polish? I want to try their makeup but have enough nail polish and don’t want more. Thanks!

Hey Liz, in the swappers section I keep reading about ppl only want to trade for Their unicorn items…. what does that mean? And where can I find their unicorn items and how do I make my unicorn list? I’m very confused… thanks for the help in advanced!!

Yay! I got the same exact box just with a lighter shade of the cushion complex plus add on items. Like another commenter I’m not exactly sure if it’s a concealer or a foundation but it will definitely be used. It matches my skin perfectly! I have to give props to Julep for creating such a wide variety of colors and also for giving a VERY detailed way of deciding which color would work the best for you. I also got an extra item for choosing 3 add on items. It usually is an (orange! 😕) nail polish but this time I received a small hand lotion. The formula is great even though there is kind of a plastic smell. The best part about it though is the dispenser. I would buy it again just for that.

I agree. I got a perfect shade. That never happens!

Michelle

I am confused. Is the cushion complexion a foundation or a concealer?

HalliLikeBerry

I think it’s supposed to be a foundation, but I have been using mine as a concealer and I love it.

I just tried this today and I am Super Impressed. They got my exact color correct and I love the formula! Yay!!

I’m falling more and more in love with Julep. I got the foundation and sunscreen…$58 value…for $20. Super impressed with both items. The foundation wears so well and applies so flawlessly. I am kicking myself for not adding on jaydra but maybe next time.

My box was supposed to have a sheet of nail decals (bows). Instead I got a package of like 96 sheets of nail decals (all the same). What in the world am I going to do with all of those? Someone in the warehouse messed up…

mimi

If they’re the little bows, save them to hand out to little girls for Halloween as an extra.

Such a cute idea! 😊

Kelly

Julep has amazing customer service. If you let them know they will fix it.

Ragan

I’m not sure what there is to fix? They did send all my selected items, just a bunch of extra decals, as well. I mean, they could provide postage for me to send the extras back, I suppose, but other than that, I’m not sure what they would even do.

Liz, I chose these EXACT same things when I built my box for June! So crazy! LOL – very happy with everything and my pen doesn’t have a scratchy tip either. Next month is my last on a 6 month sub and I won’t be renewing for now – on polish overload and I get so many makeup items in other boxes. Julep was fun for 6 months though and I’d recommend it to any new sub box addict as one of their first boxes. And if you can get enough referals then it’s def worth to keep as long as it’s free. Got one of their lip oils last month and love it! If the price were closer to $12 a month, I’d keep it.

I got the cushion too.

You may want to correct the post above. At the end when you say “Julep is offering this 12-piece nail polish FREE set with a new subscription!”. That’s not true. You will get A set, but not THAT set. They just throw 12 random polishes in a box. I subscribed expecting to get those beautiful rainbow colors, and my set looks nothing like that. Julep customer service says they don’t specify which colors you’ll receive in the set.

Did you get a beauty box as well, or just the nail polish set for your first month? I just got the 12 piece polish set today(still pretty colors even though they’re not the ones pictured), but nothing else. I’m confused if that counts as the first box or if I may be missing some items.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

They send the free gift separately. So no that isn’t your first box. They always send the free gift as soon as u sign up then on the 20th of whatever month u signed up on you can sign into your julep account and either choose what u want in your box or you can do nothing and let them pick whats in it. Hope that helps!

Bonnie

Thanks for the heads-up. I was this close to subbing right now because THIS set of 12 looks so beautiful and I have been eyeing this for a while, but now I’m holding off. I don’t feel the need to rush in, since they always have some free gift, and the pictured set won’t be the one I get.

I use the eye makeup remover all the time. After I use it, I roll the tip in a kleenix until it rolls clear to clean it. That way I’m not transferring one use’s leftovers to another use.

Thanks for the tip!

I’m so confused! These items weren’t in the selections. How does the selection process actually work? Can you pick anything from the site or just selected items?

In addition to “swapping out,” there’s also an option where you can build your own box. That option lets you start with an empty box.

Reply ButtonReply

AAC

They were available depending on much “value” you are swapping out. If you swapped out one of the polishes, it won’t give you higher price items that go over your allotted budget. I usually choose everything from scratch so I can see all my options.

Reply ButtonReply

Jira

It came up in the suggestion for me too. You just have to pick ‘swap out’ items that you don’t want from the set they curated. I hope that helps!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Hm, they were available options for me. (I’ll look into this more!)

Reply ButtonReply

Shannon

Thanks all!

I’m just basing this off the selection preview post on MSA, maybe I misunderstood it! I’m interested in trying a number of Julep products, but I prefer skincare and polish over makeup and don’t want to be stuck with a lot of makeup options I’ll never use!

Marion

Is Jaydra the new Tanith? I haven’t tried it yet… I need to go do my nails RIGHT NOW!

Liz Cadman

I just looked up Tanith on Julep’s site – SO pretty!

It’s brought up on the forum a lot whenever a “favorite Julep shades” discussion comes around!
