Hey, Coach! by Linda Ashman - Value $6.49 on Amazon (retail price $14.95)
We loved this book by Linda Ashman! It was a fun rhyming romp all about the fun young kids have out on the soccer field while trying to learn the ins and outs of the game. The children progress as the season moves along all while having tons of fun.
Soccer Socks - Value $6.99
These white tube socks have three black stripes and make my son feel like he’s really playing the part of an athlete when he dresses up in them. This was a great accessory to go along with the book.
Winner Medal - Value $0.42
This goldtone plastic medal comes on a red, white and blue 32-inch nylon ribbon. The medal itself looks quite cheap and poorly made, but that didn’t stop my son from sporting it all day long. It has a safety clasp that easily pops open to avoid being a hazard if twisted around a child’s neck.
Inflatable Soccer Ball - Value $0.75
My son and daughter had a couple hours of enjoyment kicking around this inflatable soccer ball yesterday. It was a rainy day and they were stuck indoors and very happy to have something new and fun to play with. It measures about 11 inches when fully blown up and has held up well with tons of tossing and kicking.
Quaker Chocolate Chip Granola Bar, 0.84 oz. – Value $0.25 (buy a box of 12 for $2.98)
My daughter scarfed down this chocolate chip granola bar as soon as I opened the box. I liked the fact that it’s a bit lower in sugar than some bars, and she loved the texture and taste.
Kid’s Whistle - Value $0.42
My son enjoyed being a “coach” with this silver whistle. The cord is 36” long and I was happy to see that it came with a safety clasp that easily pops apart to prevent a choking hazard.
Travel Bandage Kit - Value $2.50?
This small plastic case is perfect for keeping in my purse or car for the kids’ frequent scrapes. It contained 5 bandages with camouflage and Looney Tune prints.
Happy Tot Organic Dino Snacks, 1.48 oz. - Value $2.32
These baked organic cheddar, tomato, and basil cheese puffs came in tiny dino shapes. Unfortunately, neither my son nor daughter cared for the taste. This isn’t a product we finished or will be purchasing in the future.
Allergy Blend Essential Oil - Value $4.00?
This month’s adult gift was an essential oil blend from the Etsy seller Literary Apothecary. This seller is currently on a break so I am unable to get accurate pricing for her full-size rollerball blend and I’m estimating a price for this teensy & adorable sample size bottle. This blend is a lemon, peppermint and lavender oils and is said to offer relief for seasonal allergies. To use simply apply to pulse points.
Verdict: What a fun sporty theme this month! We really enjoyed the book and thought the extras fit the theme well, but some felt a bit cheap. I calculated the value this month to be just over $24 which is $5 less than the cost of the box itself (not counting shipping). I’d really like to see LitJoy Crate increase their box value. While the themes and books are fun, I think for $29.99 a month they need to offer more. I would prefer to see fewer items per box that are of a higher quality and value. My children do enjoy this subscription, however, and I appreciate that they are all about making reading fun for kids.
