Dave's Sweet Tooth Toffee in Milk Chocolate, 8 oz. - Value $12.99
We're starting out strong with this decadent chocolate toffee. It's like if milk chocolate was... crunchy? So delicious and unique.
Fresh Coast Tanzania 70% Dark Chocolate, 2.4 oz. - Value $8.00
Creamy, rich, and slightly fruity with a deep cocoa flavor, I could really taste the freshness and care in this chocolate. The Fresh Coast website explains that they work with farmers in the southern region of Tanzania to gather the cacao yield necessary to handcraft these bars.
Joseph Wesley Black Tea No. 07 Lapsang Souchong, 50G - Value $14.99
First of all, the packaging of this tea is beautiful. It had a slightly smokey flavor for a black tea which I really enjoyed. Perhaps not ideal for the 92 degree days we've been experiencing on the east coast, but I could see this being great ice with some lemon as well.
Street Eatzz M1 Mustard Sauce, 8.5 oz. - Value $6.50
This mustard is awesome! It sort of reminded me of a spicy relish sauce. It’s not totally smooth — there are small bits of what I’ve gathered to be mango after looking at the ingredients list (makes sense that it says to shake well before each use on the jar). The mango must be what creates a faint sweet flavor. First post-taste thought: “Can’t wait to try this on a hotdog!” (No ketchup for authentic Detroit experience, of course).
Lush Nuts True North Artisan Mix, 7 oz. - Value $9.75
This trail mix (I guess that's what I'd call it) is Lush Nuts' tribute to the state of Michigan with its dried cherries. It also contains dark cocoa chili peanuts, pecans, organic banana chips, and organic coconut chips. Would be nice over yogurt, but it's nothing super special flavor-wise, in my opinion.
Verdict: I'm a huge fan of food and snack boxes that are specific to a unique region, so Mitten Crate is right up my alley. This month was packed with quality full-sized items, and I really appreciated the thoughtfulness that went into choosing each product. I sort of wish there was more of a savory component, but I'm happy to have tried the toffee, local chocolate, and trail mix all the same. With a calculated value of $52.23, this box is definitely worth the $35 subscription cost (which includes free shipping). Can't wait to see more from Michigan's tasty assortment in next month's Mitten Crate!
