This month's theme is: "Blackberries and Bluebonnets," which is inspired by two iconic symbols of springtime in Texas. Apparently, a few of these products are fan favorites, too.

The back of the card lists the products and describes them all in detail. Especially since this box is all about putting the spotlight on and supporting small Texas companies, I think it's great that they take so much time introducing these unique items and makers.

There's also a card all about the subscription itself. I didn't realize this box had a charitable aspect to it! And it's eco-conscious? Awesome!

Texas Bluebonnet Soap by Kuhdoo Soap Company - Value $7.00

This natural soap bar smells soooooo good! I don't think I knew what bluebonnets smelled like, but I'm loving this light, dreamy floral fragrance.

Check out my review of My Texas Market for April 2017!

I couldn't find the weight of this soap anywhere, but it's about 3-ish by 4-ish inches big and about an inch deep. It feels sizable in my hand but isn't so big that it was hard to hold onto.

Check out my review of My Texas Market for April 2017!

There's a lot to love about this soap bar, including the aforementioned fragrance, its soothing, creamy texture (which I'm guessing comes from the oatmeal, coconut oil, and goat milk on the ingredients list), and its all-natural recipe. The label says "Made with love and ingredients you can pronounce," and the soap holds true to that claim. There's no nasty stuff in this bar—just nourishing ingredients like avocado oil, honey, and more.

Jammit Jam in Blackberry Star Anise Merlot, 8 oz. - Value $8.00

Wow, this jam is so interesting! I was expecting something sweet and almost dessert-ish like a jam from the grocery store, but the flavor of this awesome concoction is somewhat mild, deep, and deliciously complex.

Check out my review of My Texas Market for April 2017!

I think the best way to describe it is to say it's almost like a fruity wine turned into a spread. But the addition of the anise also adds a slight, yet noticeable spice (meaning a Thanksgiving-desserts-type spice, not a peppery-heat-type spice). So good! I'm eager to play around with this jam. The info card suggests using it as a sauce in savory dishes (like with meats or fish) and making space for it on charcuterie plates. Yum, yum, yum.

Bluebonnet Travel Tin Candle by Luna Tigre, 6 oz. - Value $8.00

Given my newfound affinity for bluebonnet fragrances, I was delighted to see this little candle!

Check out my review of My Texas Market for April 2017!

The candle has the same fresh, gorgeous floral fragrance that the soap did. It's strong enough that it filled my small office with pretty perfume just by sitting on my desk with the lid off. I'd mind that if I didn't love the scent so much. The candle is 100% soy wax, and the brand takes steps to make each candle have the smallest ecological footprint as possible. This is going to make a great addition to my collection, but it'd also make a cute hostess gift if you're not a fan of the aroma.

Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar by Terra Verde, 100 ml - Value $7.20 (Buy a 250 ml bottle for $18.00 on Amazon)

This is probably my favorite item in this box, because holy cow, what an awesome flavor! I love balsamic already, but the addition of blackberry gives it the slightest punch of fruity sweetness that makes it so delicious. This will be an incredible addition to spring and summer salads, and I'd love to see what it'd be like reduced into sauces. I've heard of people using balsamic in creative cocktails, too... Maybe this is the inspiration for me to give those recipes a try!

Texas Bluebonnet Garden Kit by Nature Favors - Value $2.95

This tiny box contains everything I need to bring bluebonnets into my home. This one box has really turned me into a bluebonnet fan, so I'm actually super excited to experience the real thing!

Check out my review of My Texas Market for April 2017!

Everything about this kit is tiny (the pot itself is only about 2 inches or so tall), including the info on how to grow flowers from this Texas-shaped morsel of earth.

I'm just getting started with nurturing my new plant pal, but I'm eager to see these blue babies bloom!

Verdict: I loved this box! The items themselves were really charming and unique. And I really appreciate the fact that this box supports small companies while also minding their environmental impact. It's just got good vibes all around! The value of the items all told is only about $33.00, which is less than the cost of the box (especially after shipping). I enjoyed it so much though, that I'll chalk up the difference as the value of curation. But what do you think? To me, a native Pennsylvanian, these items and brands are all new to me—I wouldn't know to go looking for them myself (for instance, the bluebonnet fragrance isn't one I would've known to pick up at the store) so that curation is worth it for me.

Luna Tigre candles are the best! I snagged a tomato scented one at an art bazaar and it smells gardenly divine!!

This box makes me extra proud to be a Texan!

The flower is Bluebonnet. Not bluebells. We may have Blue Bell ice cream but it doesn’t have anything to do with bluebonnets or bluebells. Our state flower is the Bluebonnet

Oh. My. Goodness. I am so sorry for missing that!!! Consider it officially updated. Thank you all for being so on top of it and calling out the error. It’s starting to get really warm here, so maybe chalk this up to a Freudian slip where I’ve just got ice cream on the brain!!!

Many thanks to all of the Texans out there who caught my mistake. Your state flower – the blueBONNET – is gorgeous and smells fantastic!

oh my gosh, the blackberry balsamic sounds great! I will be checking if any grocery stores carry that, if not…I’ll check Amazon. I’ve never heard of it but now I need to try it! Thanks, Anna!

You refer to “bluebells” multiple times in your post, but those are not the same things as bluebonnets! I think you mean bluebonnets

Sammee

Lol – I saw that too. But in addition to being a flower, Bluebell is ironically a pretty awesome Texas ice cream 🙂

Carly

Yes! I miss living in Texas and having access to Blue Bell ice cream!

“Made with love and ingredients you can pronounce” – I know what they mean here, but I’m always turned off by the “I believe that I shouldn’t use it if I can’t pronounce it” crowd. Ignorance does not equate with doing the right thing. These people usually don’t know what persimmons, pomelos, and kumquats are (must be evil man-made toxicants that will take over the planet while you’re sleeping off that gluten-free martini!!!!!) [LOL, then sigh]
