Included was a two-sided, full-color brochure containing information about the products. It was so big, I really couldn’t photograph the whole thing and have it still be readable. But it is a good, informative card–one of the best I’ve seen for a subscription box. There’s also usually some product literature related to some of the products from the box.
Doux Dates, 1.8 oz - Value $1.79
These are pretty basic dates. They do still have the pits, though the packaging warns you of that. This is good for if you want just a taste of something a little bit sweet without getting too many calories (each date has 21 calories).
Go Raw Sprouted Spicy Fiesta Seeds, 0.7 oz - Value $0.66 (Buy a case of 6 16 oz bags for $89.94)
I don’t know that I would use “spicy fiesta” to describe the flavor here. They reminded me more of ranch dip or something. I liked these, but my husband didn’t care for them. I suspect that your enjoyment will depend on whether or not you like to consume various seeds as a snack (I do).
Soul Sprout Almond Butter Big Bite in Cacao Almond, 1 oz - Value $2.00
This little thing had 140 calories! But it is also really good. I am a fan of anything with chocolate and nuts. I don’t even think you’d know this was raw if it hadn’t come in RawBox.
Coconut Cashew Coco-Roons Minis in Brownie Flavor, 2 oz - Value $2.99
I love coconut, too. This brand of macaroons is new to me. I like that they’re a bit smaller, so you can eat a few but not get too many calories. (If I sound obsessed with calories in this review, it’s because I put on a pound or two, and I’m currently in a calorie deficit to get back to my goal weight range.)
Organic Living Superfoods “Taste of the Tropics” Mix, 3 oz - Value $7.29
This was great. There were these pieces of chocolate covered coconut in there that were awesome, but the larger, harder chunks (they include cashews and macadamia nuts) were also pretty tasty. This definitely had a tropical flavor without getting too heavily into tart flavors (e.g., there was no pineapple or mango).
Made in Nature Mangoes, 3 oz - Value $4.75
You’ll see this brand a lot in RawBox. (I was buying this brand from Whole Foods long before I ever encountered it in a subscription box, though.) I love almost everything I’ve had from this brand. But I thought these mangoes were kind of hard to chew, and they stuck in my teeth a lot. The flavor was good, however.
Roo’bar Chia & Coconut, 1.05 oz - Value $1.86
This brand is new to me. As mentioned earlier, I am a fan of coconut. And unlike a lot of other bars with chia in them, this was NOT all hard and gritty. It has one of the better textures of any chia-containing bar I’ve had lately. It was also fairly small and had a very short ingredients list.
Please note: these are European products and the manufacturer doesn’t sell directly to customers in the United States. Although the two flavors included in this box are not currently available on Amazon, one flavor is, so I have taken the value for these bars from that product listing.
Roo’bar Cacao Nibs, 1.05 oz - Value $1.86
This was the second of two Roo’bars this month. I think I liked the coconut one a little better on a texture basis because cacao nibs are kind of hard and crunchy. I did enjoy the flavor of this one, though.
Oxylent Multivitamin Supplement Drink in Sparkling Berries Flavor, 0.22 oz packets, 7 count box - Value $8.95
I’m one of those people who would rather just swallow a pill than drink vitamins because I find vitamin drinks to have a vitamin-like scent to them (if you have ever sniffed the inside of a bottle of multivitamins, you’ll know what I mean). This did kind of smell like vitamins, but the taste was not bad at all. If you have trouble swallowing pills, something like this could be really useful, though.
Skinny & Co. Coffee Raw Soap – Value $10.00
I think I’ve made it pretty clear in other reviews on MSA that I hate the smell of coffee. However, coffee soaps and scrubs are really effective, so sometimes I am willing to put up with them. The caffeine in coffee is supposed to increase blood flow to the skin, which allegedly reduces the appearance of cellulite. I don’t know if I buy that, but you’ll sometimes see that claim made. This soap did some gentle exfoliation thanks to the coffee grounds, and the scent washed away pretty quickly. The packaging for this was some kind of highly-reflective clear plastic. (I took about five pictures, and they all looked like this.)
Little Moon Essentials Beach All You Want Aromatherapy Mist, 1 fl oz - Value $3.15 (Buy 2 fl oz for $6.30)
I first heard of this brand in the June Vegan Cuts Beauty Box, where we got a bath salt product in the same scent. I do like the scent; it’s very fruity and tropical. I think it smells a lot stronger here than in the bath salt.
MacroLife Naturals Macro Meal Ultimate Superfood, Chocolate, 1.6 oz - Value $2.66 (Buy 15 servings for $39.95)
MacroLife Naturals Macro Meal Ultimate Superfood, Vanilla, 1.4 oz - Value $2.66 (buy 15 servings for $39.95)
You’ll usually get some kind of powder in RawBox. MacroLife Naturals has been pushing their new line of protein powders in a lot of fitness boxes lately. I do like their superfoods greens and reds products. These protein powders are vegan, and they don’t dissolve super-well on their own, so I use them in smoothies, where they don’t affect the texture so much. I liked both better than some competing products (like Vega Protein and Greens), though I am ultimately going to stick with whey (which is not vegan). Still, it is nice to see what is available these days.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $50.62 for the Summer 2017 RawBox. That is comfortably above the cost of the box, which is a good deal, especially for a box consisting exclusively of vegan/natural food and beauty items. Although I was familiar with some of the brands before I received this box, every single product was new to me, and I enjoyed most of the items quite a bit. I am not sure whether it was intentional or not, but I felt like there was a summer/tropical theme going on, too. (It may just be that tropical fruits and nuts are especially suitable to being consumed raw, though.)
What do you think of the Summer 2017 RawBox?
