The summer theme was Genetics. It has some fun little items but also fun learning experiences.
It comes with an information booklet.
Inside you'll find stories, science, and stats. This timeline is unique because they've tied in Marvel Comics events to tie in entertainment with science.
Like most subscription boxes, you'll also get a breakdown of the items in your box.
Genetics Shirt - Value $15?
Each month includes a themed shirt. For Genetics, it focuses on DNA - and has that Jurassic Park vibe to me!
Decoding Genes with Max Axiom - Value $6 on Amazon
Sticking with the DNA vibe, it also includes a comic book from PhD Amber Keyser.
This is what makes this subscription more unique to me - they do a good job of finding items that are great learning materials but are still fun. This comic does just that.
Handheld Microscope - Value $12 on Amazon
This is the first item that branches more into the activity portion of the box - it's a pocket-size microscope.
It also comes with a 3-specimen slide to get you going, but they also suggest taking it outside to get a better look and inspects on-the-go!
Creepy Crawlies - Value $9 on Amazon
To go with your microscope, you'll also get 5 slides featuring different bugs.
Bust out the microscope and take a closer look at bees, mosquitoes, ants, planaria, and earthworms.
Mighty Molecules - Value $24 on Amazon
Staying in the activity space - this item will help kids learn while building.
These REALLY bring me back to high school biology classes! It comes with an instruction booklet as well - inside, you'll learn to piece together 10 common structures: water, carbon dioxide, methane, ammonia, ethylene, propane, ethanol, glycerol, hydrogen peroxide, and chlorine.
Charles Darwin Quotable Notables - Value $8 on Amazon
The last item is a fun one - your very own Charles Darwin sticker set and card.
Use the stickers on the inside of this card and send to a friend - or really just do whatever you're feeling with the stickers!
Verdict: Early on in this subscription, they started to hit a sweet spot where it was fun for both adults and kids - and probably even better as joint activities. Since they've increased their focus on that aspect of the box and switch to quarterly deliveries, I think they've been doing even better with the focus areas of the box. There are some fun activities to do with a kid, or for your kids to do on their own - but the focus has definitely shifted and is focus heavily on that aspect now.
