Target is now offering an Art & Craft Kit Subscription for Kids, bringing a different creative activity to your doorstep each month for $14.99.

This box actually arrived a little earlier than our previous boxes; they usually arrive around the 24th for us, but this arrived on the 20th! So we're resetting dates and calling this the "June" box, even though our last review was also for June.

You'll notice this is packaged very simply. It looks like any other online order from Target.

Creativity for Kids Fairy Garden Kit - Retail Value $19.99

Another craft kit this month, yay! This one looks like a really fun summer project and is advertised for "Ages 7 to 97" on the box.

I've seen other kids' projects for fairy gardens, which are usually a tiny garden plot decorated with a fairy house and some other glittery things. I like that this box is self-contained and has everything we should need except water.

The instructions weren't step-by-step detailed instructions, but this isn't the kind of project where you'll be recreating the photo on the box in perfect detail. They tell you which pieces to paint and give you some tips for how to use the included glittery "fairy dust" to decorate.

This round planter is about 12" across. It is paintable, though we opted to keep ours white.

Target Arts and Crafts June 2017 Review - Dirt

This bag of dirt is perfectly portioned for your garden.

Target Arts and Crafts June 2017 - Seeds

Your kit also comes supplied with some beans and grasses to sprout! They recommend saving some for later so that you can add more to your garden in the future.

Target Arts and Crafts June 2017 - Flowers and glitter

There are a variety of decorative items too: fake flowers, tiny butterflies, purple gravel, and glitter.

Target Arts and Crafts June 2017 - Gems

A few rhinestones and clear plastic stones that can be painted with designs on the back...

Target Arts and Crafts June 2017 - Sculptures

Decorative mushrooms and a little fairy house to paint...

...and of course, don't forget the fairy!

Target Arts and Crafts June 2017 - Paint

The included paints have a nice pastel color scheme.

I decided to do this project with my two-year-old son because he loves painting and playing in the dirt–and he keeps asking about doing "another project" ever since we painted the Animal Jam bird feeder together.

Target Arts & Crafts June 2017 Box - Work in Progress

First, we painted those mushrooms and our little fairy house!

Here's the paint swatched just in case you were wondering, haha! I think I ended up with more paint on me than he did!

Then we set to planting and decorating! Hard to keep this guy from playing with the dirt, but he had a blast.

Here we are all finished!

And then we added some water and stood by and watched! It's been a day, so it's too early for anything to sprout yet, but so far we're enjoying checking on the garden and making sure it's kept damp.

Verdict: This project was a little simpler than last month's kit, but still a lot of fun. I'm happy to see another fair and decent retail value this month, too. This project is a little twee, but teaching my kid the importance of nature and growing things is important to me, so I like that element a lot. I wish they let you choose an age range so it could be a little more specific to younger kids or pre-teens, but I was happy that I could share this project with my toddler this time!

Lacey, that shade of green is your color! Loving the pigment, and it looks like you got good coverage in one swipe! 🙂

This is more on par to what I expected/hoped for when this sub started. I don’t think it’s enough to make me resub, but with this project and the dream catcher from last month, this subscription is definitely improving.

I may have to pick this one up for a fun summer project.

Just a side note, I do think they should do something to reduce the amount of packaging. Not sure what the solution is if they’re sending out different sized kits every month, but it’s just an observation.

Thanks for the great review.
