This is a truly unique subscription box. Each month, you'll receive a new mixtape on vinyl - packaged with an exclusively designed jacket and booklet!
You can tell that they've paid a lot of attention to detail - even the inside of the packaging has been printed with the theme!
Each month comes with an information booklet.
Inside, you'll find a little text blurb from Vinyl Moon's founder along with details about each song and artist selected to be on the mixtape. All of the music is licensed as well.
When I was growing up, cassettes were still very much the thing - so I spent A LOT of time pressing record and stopping as quickly as I could to maintain a nicely themed mixed cassette tape.
So - once I heard about this, it was like a little memory of that just flashed into my head and I couldn't wait to try it out!
Volume 20 is actually from April 2017 - but it's new to me! The theme was TRANS/MISS/ION and it was packed with beautiful spacey artwork.
Everything about this vinyl - from the record itself to all of the artwork is exclusively done for Vinyl Moon - so it's like an original piece of art as well.
This month's LP was a translucent blue marble - and it's gorgeous!
The music itself was all electronic, some instrumental, some dancey, some melodic. While it's not really my preferred genre of music, I did have a good time listening to all 9 tracks while browsing the artwork and booklet!
Continuing with the exclusive artwork - the LP comes with a booklet as well.
The artwork is actually a comic, telling the story of the Philae & Rosetta spacecraft - nicely fitting with the theme!
Verdict: I think this is one of the most unique subscriptions I've ever reviewed - and I had a blast reviewing it. As I've mentioned with other vinyl subscriptions, I'm really into discovery more than getting music from a band that I already know - so this is really pure discovery. At $30 a month, the price is high for a single record - but you're also getting something that is a one-off, handcrafted, and exclusive pressing - that's pretty cool to me.
