Wine Awesomeness is a monthly wine subscription that specializes in rare and unusual wines. They seek out "the coolest, craveworthiest wines" with plenty of crowd-pleasing appeal. The curatorial team includes a Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year! So far, this subscription has been a really fun way for me to expand on my amateur knowledge of wine. I'm excited to see what the team picked to send along this month!

Each Wine Awesomeness box comes with three wines. You choose whether you'd like the "All Red", "All White" (with a chance of rosé or bubbly), or the "Variety" (with a chance of rosé or bubbly) plan—they're all $45.00 per month. I'm down to explore the world outside the reds I typically drink, so  I chose the "Variety" plan. If you're a more frequent wine drinker, or if you just want to grow your collection a little faster, Wine Awesomeness does offer all of their monthly selections for $75.00 per shipment in a plan called "The Six Pack."

Want to change your Wine Awesomeness preferences, skip a shipment, or cancel altogether? You can do all of the above via your online account at any time.

The shipment came in a giant, nondescript cardboard box. Inside, the bottles were safely sitting in specially made cardboard trays, which successfully kept them still, stable, and in great condition. No leaks or cracks here!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is for the Variety plan, which is $45.00 per monthly box.

Wine Awesomeness has its own mini magazine in lieu of a traditional information card or booklet. It's called "The Back Label," after the back of the wine label. This month, everything is themed all around "Summer Vibes."

I love paging through this mini magazine every month! It has all kinds of information on wines and wine culture, including details on all 6 of the wines up for grabs this month, recipes to pair with each wine, playlist recommendations, and more.

2017 Lekker Rosé Wine, 750 ml - Value $18.00

The first wine is a rosé, which is basically the wine of the summer. The booklet describes this wine as "pure energy, like shooting stars drenched in lemon juice." Ha! I'm wild about how they describe the wines. And the best part is, that's not totally inaccurate! This rosé is bright and upbeat and fun and has an acidic kick that makes it refreshing and satisfying like lemonade (the mini mag actually says it has the flavor of "electrified pink lemonade"). Also, this baby is a twist top—in other words, it's a snap to reseal.

2010 Record Family Wines Merlot Wine, 750 ml - Value $34.00?

I linked to a similar item from Record Family Wines, since I couldn't find this bottle available online anywhere. I don't think this wine is quite as expensive (since it's not a "reserve" bottle), but boy is this wine good. The flavor is rich, bold, and fruity all at the same time, but the wine goes down smooth and feather light. The magazine explains this wine's flavor as "red apple skins, waxy melted crayons, and the rind of a blood orange that has been laying in the sun on a terracotta tiled floor." Again, rather poetic, but not wrong! To me, the flavor was a great blend of earthiness and fruitiness. It's got a lot of dry (but not crisp) sweetness up front but relaxes into something much more savory and almost saucy. I love red wine, and I found this one really exciting and unexpected!

2016 Niro Pecorino White Wine, 750 ml - Value $19.80?

The bottle I got is a little bit different than the bottle I linked to, but I think it's a fair estimation of value. The magazine describes this white wine as "a salad of yellow apples and juicy, slightly bruised golden pears drizzled with honey." Okay, now I'm hungry. This wine really pops and sparkles across the palate. It's crisp and bright and fruity in a fun, apple-ish way.

It's a corked wine—the only one in the box—so, boooooo. But it also came with this little bracelet! So, yay!

It's not really my style... but hey, it looks like it'd be right at home in a beachy, seaside outfit. Maybe this is a sign I should go on a beach vacation soon...

4 Green and Black's Chocolate Sample Bars - Value $4.17?

Last, but not least, there are some little business-card-sized chocolates in the box! These same chocolates appeared in last month's box, and I was super happy to see 'em again! My favorite one was the milk chocolate with sea salt, which was creamy and almost fruity with natural, luscious chocolate flavor!

Verdict: Once again, I was a big fan of Wine Awesomeness! From the presentation to the quality of the items inside, everything about this box left me a happy customer. For $45.00, I got about $72.00 of wine and tasty chocolates! I love learning about wine with this legitimately awesome subscription!
