Each month’s box is themed as a Mission and includes a detailed list of products and their values in all the different level options. This month’s theme is Operator Owned and features products made by veteran owned businesses. I loved this idea and I’m really glad BattlBox gave so much support to vet owned companies!
This month we also get a coupon for 20% off from The Heritage Flag Co.
Here are the items included in the Basic level ($24.99 cost / $63.94 value):
Warfighter Tobacco Cigar - Battlbox Edition - Listed Value $8.99
First up this month we have this special edition BattlBox cigar from Warfighter Tobacco! I’ll admit I don’t know a ton about cigars, but I have one every once in a while, and I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The outer wrapper is aged longer, giving it a darker look. The band itself features the Battlbox logo, which was a nice touch. Each cigar is handmade in Warfighter’s Nicaraguan facility with premium Sumatran tobacco. The box features a coupon for 20% off your first order as well.
Black Rifle Coffee Company Mug - Value $12.99
Up next we have a couple of items from Black Rifle Coffee Company. First is this awesome mug based on Ben Franklin’s Join, or Die cartoon. Coffee, or Die.. I think a lot of us can relate to this message. I know I can. The mug has a nice matte finish too, which feels really nice in your hand. This appears to be a newer design from Black Rifle as it’s shown on some tumblers but not on a coffee mug at their site.
Black Rifle Coffee Company Just Black Coffee Blend - Value $12.99
The second item from Black Rifle Coffee is, of course, coffee! The Just Black coffee blend is made from a blend of Central American and Colombian Supremo beans and comes ground and ready for any standard drip machine. You could probably get away with using a french press but you will probably end up with some sediment. Flavor-wise.. It’s not my cup of coffee but it’s not terrible or anything. It’s pretty straightforward dark roast coffee. Personally, I prefer a lighter roast so I can get a little more caffeine and flavor. Black Rifle offers a ton of different roasts though, and I think I’m going to have to try out their Sniper’s Hide blend in the future!
Strike Force Energy 4 Pack Sampler - Value $3.99 (buy a 10-pack for $9.99)
Up next this month we’ve got this sampler pack of Strike Force Energy packets. We get one of each flavor: Lemon, Grape, Orange, and Original which has a similar flavor to Red Bull. These things pack a wallop though - mix them with a bottle of water and you’re going to have a burst of long-lasting energy. There’s no sugar or calories here, and each packet gives you 160mg of caffeine, in addition to taurine, potassium and B vitamins. There’s about 20mg of caffeine per 1 oz of brewed coffee, to give you a little perspective. The liquid is clear so it’s a little tough to see if it’s fully mixed, but they do say there’s no shaking or stirring required so I guess it’s getting mixed on its own! The flavor is good, and one water bottle replaced my coffee this morning.
ND999 Never Dry Firearm Lubricant, 5 ml. - Value $5.99
I’m not a firearms guy, so I didn’t give this a go as a firearm lubricant, but I did put some in a folding blade that was a little sticky. It worked great, and continues to stay “wet”. They claim it will keep items lubricated for up to 3 years, which is pretty impressive! The applicator tip was easy to use, and it wasn’t a messy ordeal as can be the case with some bottle applicators. We also get a 10% off coupon and a little company history card.
Doc Spartan Combat Ready Ointment - Value $9.99
Next up we have this “Handheld Wound Device” from Doc Spartan. This is an ointment stick that contains coconut oil, beeswax, essential oils and vitamin E that you can rub onto healing cuts and wounds to moisturize and soothe them. It’s not a replacement for first aid care, but it will help your cuts and bruises feel and smell better. They claim it will also help with tattoo healing! I don’t have any cuts or bruises currently, but I will say this stuff smells really good and I’ll be reaching for it next time I need a little relief.
Readyman Basic Membership – Value $10.00
Included for free is a renewal for the basic membership to ReadyMan, a community founded by US Special Operation Forces veterans and skilled outdoorsmen. With the basic membership, you get the following:
In addition to the items included in the Basic box, here are the items included at the Advanced level: ($49.99 cost / $111.92 value)
Range 15 DVD - Value $19.99
First up at the Advanced level this month, we have this hilarious film from 2 veteran owned companies: Ranger Up and Article 15 clothing. Several members of the cast are employees from these 2 companies! They also got some familiar faces in Sean Astin, William Shatner, Danny Trejo and more. It’s not a film for everyone, as the quote on the back cover plainly states, but it’s a fun zombie movie that achieves its goal of portraying service members in a more realistic and authentic way. They felt that most films portray service members as one-note neanderthals. This movie is completely crowdsourced via Indiegogo, and raised over $1m, making it the 4th highest project on Indiegogo at the time.
American Made Multicam Mesh Back Hat - Listed Value $27.99 (Couldn’t find exact model online)
The second item at the Advanced level is this hat. It’s got a thicker mesh back that is really cushy and probably absorbent, especially compared to a standard trucker-hat mesh. There are a lot of these types of hats online but I couldn’t find the exact model so I’m using the quoted value, which feels pretty high to me. It’s decent quality but it doesn’t really feel like a $28 item.
In addition to the items included in the Basic and Advanced boxes, here are the items included at the Pro level: ($99.99 cost / $271.92 value)
The Raider Project Coliseum by Rockwell Watches - Value $150.00
At the pro level this month, we get this incredible watch! From Rockwell Watches and built specifically for The Raider Project, the Coliseum is perfect for action-seekers. It’s got a double bezel design to keep the lens protected, it’s waterproof to 10 atmospheres, and the band shape is a proprietary design called CradleFit that really wraps around your wrist. It has a 50-lap chronograph, dual time-zone option, memory for up to 8 alarms, and a countdown timer. All of these are easily accessible via the buttons on the outer ring. It’s a nice size at 49mm too. I have to say this won’t be a daily wear for me, but I plan on keeping this on hand for days when I’m going to be out and about in the woods or on the lake!
Readyman Premium Membership – Value $20.00
Pro and ProPlus Battlbox subscribers automatically get renewed access to the Premium side of ReadyMan, which includes the following:
In addition to the items included in the Basic, Advanced and Pro boxes, here are the items included at the ProPlus level: ($149.99 cost / $426.92 value)
Skallywag Tactical Dagger - Value $155.00
This month’s Knife of the Month is this beautiful tactical dagger from Skallywag! I’ve never used, owned, or even held a dagger, so this was an all-new thing for me. The dagger is made from stainless steel and coated in titanium, and it comes with a kydex sheath. The sheath has a rivet layout allowing for attachment to belts, packs, etc., and there’s a satisfying click when the dagger locks into place inside. The handle of the dagger has a port for your ring and pinky fingers, and indents for your index and middle fingers, allowing for plenty of grip and control. This is a really unique item and not your typical knife of the month from Battlbox! While I don’t see myself carrying this regularly, I think it’s a beautiful piece and I’m happy I’ll have it around in case I ever find myself in a close combat situation.
Verdict: This month’s BattlBox was great! I love that they worked so closely with veteran-owned companies and helped to put more of them in the spotlight for their subscribers. The Operator Owner box tops out at $426.92 in value - as usual, well over the $149.99 asking price, nearly 3 times! I know I won’t be getting a ton of use out of some of these items, but I’ve already decided who to gift the hat to and will add the rest to my backpacking and growing survivalist collections!
