Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods. It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans. They recently launched a Mini version, which is available in 3, 6, or 12-month subscriptions.
I think it’s kind of fun that they found smaller plastic cases for the Mini subscription. This one looks like a travel soap holder but I will probably end up using it to store beading supplies.

Box of Happies Earrings – Listed Value $12
These same earrings also appeared in the regular Box of Happies subscription for July. These are a good style for everyday wear, though. I’m not sure what the hooks are made of here so I am probably going to replace them with niobium or titanium hooks. (You can also paint over earring posts and hooks with clear nail polish if you are metal sensitive. But that coating has to be replaced after a few wearings.) At any rate, I like the style of these – I am one of those people who will wear pretty much any metal finish.
Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $12
I tend to prefer delicate, simple jewelry, so this is totally my style. I like that it matches the earrings. If you ever find that something from this box is not for you, it is usually packaged nicely for gifting. This came in a little velvet bag but the chain didn’t tangle at all.
Ward’s Corner Lucky Clover Penny and Bonus Keyring – Listed Value $4.98
One of the fun things about Box of Happies is that you discover new Etsy sellers you might never have encountered otherwise. Ward’s Corner sells pennies with all sorts of different cutouts, from geometric shapes to states to animals. Whenever I come across an unusual Etsy shop like this, of course, I have to spend awhile looking through their offerings. We are always finding things at our house that need new keychains (like the one door to the outside with a different lock than all the rest) so this will come in handy.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $29 for the July 2017 Box of Happies Mini. This is a fair amount over the cost of the subscription. This is a new subscription so I don’t know how representative this month is going to be, but this month had 3 of the 4 items from the regular Box of Happies, so I would suggest choosing one or the other depending on your budget, but probably not both. Based on this month’s contents, I would say to expect a fair amount of jewelry and contents otherwise similar to the regular Box of Happies, just one or two fewer items than the full-sized subscription.
What did you think of the July Box of Happies Mini? Do you get any artisan or handmade subscriptions?
