Bulu Box has changed their information cards again, as well as the boxes. There was also some product literature. And a coupon for a free pint of Halo Top ice cream. These are making the rounds of the fitness subscription boxes lately but I am not sad about that at all. I think that stuff is great and I’m eating a fair amount of it since I had oral surgery last week and am stuck with soft foods for now.
Banza Chickpea Pasta Mac and Cheese Deluxe (7.7 oz) – Value $4.17 (buy 6 boxes for $25)
I’ve had Banza pasta (specifically one of their macaroni and cheese products) before thanks to Love with Food. And boxed macaroni and cheese is my favorite thing ever. This pasta is made from chickpeas and the texture is a little different from regular pasta so you may want to have a drink handy. Last time I ate this, I felt like I just needed to drink a bit more than usual. It’s probably not my first choice of pastas, but especially if you need to eat gluten free, it’s worth a try.
Oilogic Essential Oil Care for Babies and Toddlers, Slumber and Sleep Essential Oil Blend (0.07 fl oz) – Value $1.55 (buy a 0.45 fl oz roll-on for $9.99)
This has a couple of different essential oils in it that are supposed to promote sleep, including the ever-popular lavender and chamomile. I don’t have a baby or toddler to try this on but I put a little bit in one of those ultrasonic water diffusers last night before bed and found it rather nicely scented and calming.
Auromere Ayurvedic Toothpaste (0.17 fl oz) – Value $0.24 (buy 2, 4.16 ounce tubes for $11.81)
This is full of plant extracts (many of which I have never heard of before) and essential oils. I am unlikely to purchase this in full size, though, because it is fluoride-free and because it is licorice flavored (which is one flavor I really don’t care for at all). Still, overall, a reasonable inclusion for a fitness-oriented box.
Mo’Betta Belly Digestive Ease Symptom Soother from Wish Garden (0.66 fl oz) – Value $15.96 (buy 1 ounce for $24.18)
This contains fennel seed, catnip aerials, peppermint leaf, and ginger root, many of which I have heard of in conjunction with easing digestive issues. (To be clear: as a scientist, I am not really into essential oils as medicine. But peppermint and ginger, at least, have established histories with respect to stomach upset.) The fennel makes it taste a bit medicinal to me. I haven’t had stomach upset since I received this box but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to hang onto it and try it next time I’m a bit nauseous.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $22 for the July Bulu Box Weight Loss. That is definitely above the cost of the box. I don’t feel like there was much relating to weight loss in this box – it struck me as more of a general health/fitness supplement box this month. That happens sometimes. I didn’t include the value of the Halo Top coupon; that product costs $5.99 per pint at Target and Whole Foods and it does definitely add to the overall value for me because I *will* use it, for sure (as soon as possible…). Probably my favorite item this month was the macaroni and cheese.
I’d definitely recommend using our MYSUB599 coupon code when signing up, and also sticking to either the regular or the weight loss version of this box rather than getting both, as there is often significant product repeat (less so this month than normally, though). Also, don’t forget to review your products for points to use in the Bulu Box shop!
