This little card is the only information card in the box. It's not as detailed as information cards in other boxes, which explain each item and why it's been included and give an idea of value.

Stella Pearl Face Mask - Value $3.00

I found a lot of different prices for this mask online (between about $1.00 to about $5.00), so I gave the value my best guesstimate. I feel like that's what I'd typically expect to pay for a sheet mask. This pearl mask didn't dramatically change my skin—it did leave it feeling temporarily more moisturized and soft, but that didn't last too long. It's a pretty standard sheet mask. It's not life-changing, but it's a nice excuse to take some time out of my day for some pampering.

Rose + Vanilla Moisturizing Lip Balm, 0.5 oz - Value $8.76

This lip balm tin is so cute. It's way less clunky to shove in the pocket of a pair of shorts or a skirt than a little jar of balm. I like that this balm is made with essential oils, shea butter, and almond oil, among other natural ingredients. The scent is nice, too. It's legitimately pretty—a little floral, a little sweet, and not too overwhelming. It works about as well as any other natural balm I've tried, and it isn't sticky or anything, which I really like.

Seven Sisters Tea White Honey Fig, 50g - Value $2.50

I've been trying more and more loose-leaf teas and really enjoying them. This tea has a sweet, yet earthy flavor, though it took a little while for it to really bloom in the hot water. In other words, let it steep for a bit! I guess that could be me, too—I tend to like really robust, very flavorful teas.

Two "Merci" Thank You Cards by Carolyn Parra Designs - Value $3.20?

I based this value on similar cards on the Carolyn Parra shop. I always like having spare thank you cards around to use in a pinch, so I'm happy to see these included in the box. And I love all things metallic! I feel like these are still relatively crisp and professional, but they have a pop of personality that seems a bit more authentic to the kind of card I would probably send to someone.

Order from Chaos by Liz Davenport - Value on Amazon $10.99 (Retail price $13.00)

I just recently read the Marie Kondo book on organizing, and it's put my mind in a very tidy mood. I've gotten my home to a good place, but my office? Uh, that's another story. I definitely need tips on how to keep the mountains of stuff that piles up on my desk in check!

Book Summary on Amazon:

The Six Steps to Organizational Freedom

Do you:
*Miss important deadlines at work?
*Forget to return urgent phone calls?
*Lose papers that were “just here a minute ago”?
*Have multiple layers of sticky notes on your computer?
*Leave projects unfinished for days, weeks, or even months at a time?

If any of these sound familiar, then you are among the ranks of the disorganized—whether mildly or completely—and Liz Davenport has written this book just for you. Order from Chaos is the organizing book for disorganized people. In six easy steps she offers a system that will help you clean up your act. She demonstrates how to clear your desk by teaching you what's trash and why, reveals what a calendar is really meant to be, and provides a no-fail system for prioritization. At the end of the day, your desk will be clear and your mind will be free to relax.

Rather than offering overcomplicated instructions for filing systems and time management plans, Order from Chaos focuses on ease of use. There is not one person—from office assistant to CEO—who will not benefit from this straightforward, easy-to-maintain plan.

Route 3 Lace-Front Top - Value $15.00?

I couldn't find this top anywhere online, and the brand seems to mostly appear on wholesale websites. I just guessed at how much I'd expect to pay for it above. It's made from polyester material that feels (I know this sounds weird, but...) a stretchy paper towel, in terms of texture. The cut is relatively cute, and not too low. The pattern feels a little too traditional for my tastes, but it is nice and summery. I have a very laid-back office dress code, but what about you? Would the lace-up design be okay where you work?

It was more fitted than I expected, but it's pretty comfortable overall.

The Verdict: I think that LaOfficeBox is a cute idea—I like that they cover such a wide variety of "professional" interests and needs, including clothing, stationery, and even professional wisdom. Based on my estimations, I got about $43.00 worth of products for $44.00 (the price of the box plus U.S. shipping). I would call that pretty fair, except some of the quality was a bit so-so (the top, for instance, feels like something that'll start getting misshapen or frayed after a few washes, and the mask was kind of "meh"). I loved the book and would've really liked to get more of those pretty notecards. I could see this box being a fun gift for a recent grad starting their first "real" job!

Zara

I think the top looks awesome on you! (I also think you look a little like Elisabeth Moss, which is a huge compliment. I love her!)

OMG, THANK YOU, Zara!!! That is a HUGE compliment! Thank you so much for reading, too 🙂

That top looks super nice on you! I really don’t think it is too low. It would be appropriate for an office setting paired with perhaps a blazer. It may not be your style but it’s adorable on you 🙂

Great review! I definitely like the concept of this box more than I like all of the items as a whole. I would love to see MSA review Sparkle Hustle Grow, which is also on cratejoy.com and seems to have a similar target audience.

Oooo, thanks for the recommendation, Shay – I’ll have to check that out!

That shirt looks good on you, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for most office jobs. It’s pretty low cut, and the lace up design draws more attention to the chest. This top seems more appropriate for casual wear, in my opinion.

I’m not convinced that this is a great value and it feels a bit random in terms of selection. I could not get away with this shirt at work, unless maybe I threw a cardigan over it (it also depends on how low cut it would end up – I’m kinda busty). It does look cute on you though!

just me, perhaps but that whole shoelace design on clothing should have ended around pre-spice girls (first) breakup/contempo and 5-7-9 clothing stores closures.

I’m mildly interested in the book. But although it has a lot of positive reviews in Amazon, Fakespot (which analyzes reviews and predicts which are fakes) gave it a “D” grade and indicated that less than 50% of the reviews are reliable.

This doesn’t mean it’s a bad book, just that the reviews for it on Amazon are not trustworthy.

So I think I’ll pass for now. But if anyone here received the book and would recommend it, please let us know. That would sway me.

$43. For the cost of $44 is a good value????

Do they ask for a size when they send items like this top? The box looks interesting, but it doesn’t work quite as well for very casual folks who work from home, a demographic that is increasing rapidly. (stretchy shorts and tees, anyone?) 😀 The rest of the items look great. I frequently read books like this, too.

Laura

I think work-from-home is the only type of office that top would be appropriate for!

So I feel like this box is trying to compete with popsugar. Just the vibe I got. But if you’re trying to compete with a well established box, you need to at least come over the cost of the box plus shipping. Also I found it weird they included s shirt- did you give them your size when you signed up?

Reply ButtonReply

Anna Reilly

Hi Jessica! Yep – you note the size you’d like when you subscribe. And to their credit, the shirt did fit, just in a more form-fitting way than I would’ve expected for office workwear… Thanks for reading, Jessica!
