Now, let’s talk snacks!
Bandar Foods Naan Chips, Garlic, 1 oz. - Value $1.99 (buy a pack of 12 1 oz. bags for $23.88)
These naan chips fall somewhere between crackers, pita chips, and the classic Indian flatbread that we all love to eat accompanying our chana masala. The pieces are lightly salted with a crispy, airy texture and subtle garlic flavor. I ate these on their own, but they'd also be great with hummus for a more substantial snack.
Metropolis Vegan Caramel Corn Popcorn, 2 oz.? (estimate, not listed) – Value $1.00? (buy a 1/3 gallon bag for $6.00)
If I didn't already know that this popcorn was vegan upon tasting, I would have had no idea. Its caramel flavor is identical to more traditional brands that I've tried. Chewy and sweet overall with just the right amount of salty and crunch!
Calbee GF Potato Chip Whole Cuts, Lightly Salted, 1.4 oz. - Value $2.27 (buy a pack of 2, 4 oz. bags for $12.99)
These were a big hit in my house! My husband described them as, "the kind of french fries that an astronaut would eat in space." I'd probably go more along the lines of, 'crispy and delightfully dehydrated french fry.' Sure -- let's go with that.
This month's UrthBox also comes with a coupon for $1.00 off any two 4 oz. products from Calbee's. Perfect for trying the other flavors of Whole Cuts: Bacon & Cheddar and Sea Salt & Vinegar.
Surf Sweets Organic Fruity Bears, 0.5 oz. - Value $0.32 (buy a pack of 12, 2.75 oz. bags for $21.36)
I really enjoy gummy bears, but these were a bit much for me. Maybe because they're coated in sugar...? I think that's it. I do love that they're free of artificial coloring and are 100% organic and naturally flavored though! I could see kids going crazy over these, and they'd make a nice alternative to other mainstream candies that are chock full of preservatives.
Zippy Cook Cocoture Truffles in Coconut Flakes, 2pcs. - Value $2.50 (buy a 12pc. box for $14.99)
Chocolate truffles are a total weakness of mine, so I was happy to try this vegan, organic version. Zippy Cook makes their candy from 95% organic creamed coconut, according to their website. Each batch of truffles are carefully hand crafted without preservatives, soy, or artificial ingredients. UrthBox provides you with a coupon code for 10% off of Zippy Cook products as well.
The truffles did not disappoint! They have a rich, deep chocolate flavor and a natural creaminess from the coconut. This is the type of candy that I could eat a whole box of.
Slice of Organics Adult Gummy Vitamins, Energy + B12, 2 gummies - Value $0.80 (buy a bottle of 60 gummies for $23.99)
These fruity gummies didn't really give me a dramatic boost in energy or anything, but they were tasty. I tend to think that stuff like this is a little gimmicky, but maybe you really feel the effects after longterm use. I take a B12, B6, folic acid supplement already, and I'll continue with that brand since I'm happy with it. These would be great for someone with a hectic schedule that wants a chewable and easy to consume vitamin to throw in their work bag!
Purely Wild Pine Nuts, 0.5 oz.? (estimate, not listed) - Value $1.00?
This small sample of nuts from Purely Wild also came with an informational pamphlet about their full assortment of products. After taking a look at the Wild Crops site, it appears that the nuts included in my sample are pinon soft shell nuts and shelled Nevada pinon nuts. Both were nice, but I'm no nut connoisseur!
UrthBox offers a code for $5.00 off of nuts and other natural products from the Wild Crops website.
Verdict: This is my first time trying UrthBox. Being someone that prefers healthy snacks and trying to eat organic and GF when possible, I really enjoyed the variety that this box provided. I estimated the value to be around $9.88 this month, but it was difficult to reach that calculation since many of the samples didn't have marked ounces or price. It felt as though the coupons included were intended to add to the overall value of the box, but I likely won't make use of the included codes, so... sort of a disappointment in value considering the $19.99 box cost. It would be awesome if UrthBox included more substantial items in the future.
