Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods. It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans.
I kind of like these plastic cases. They are a good size for storing beads or other craft supplies (and goodness knows, I have enough of those…). Also, I thought the happy face confetti this month was a fun touch!
This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: Box of Happies
The Cost: $29.99/month for a single upcoming month of your choice (when I played with the shopping cart I was also charged tax but I think that’s because they’re in the same state I am) or $29.49 for a random box from a past month; save with longer subscriptions. You can also add a bar of soap or candle to your box for $6.49, or a piece of jewelry for $8.
ACTIVE DEAL: Get a bonus handmade necklace in your first box!

Included was an information card listing the items in the box.
Box of Happies Earrings – Listed Value $10
I say this every month, but this is a jewelry-heavy subscription. Luckily, the jewelry is always packaged nicely for gifting. These are cute, but will totally be invisible in my hair (which is dyed black). However, I know someone they’d be perfect for, so I will be passing them along. (I am not sure what metal the hooks are made of. I do have sensitive ears so I always either replace the hooks in Box of Happies earrings or paint over them with clear nail polish before wearing.)
Simply Made Candles Soy Candle Tin in Coconut Lime Verbena – Listed Value $5
This particular size of candle tin isn’t available in the Simply Made Candles shop, so I’ve used the value from the information card. The price seems reasonable considering the other prices for their items, and considering this is an item from an indie producer using soy wax. This burns quite nicely and it smells very, very good (I love coconut citrus scents in candles, though, so I may be biased…).
Designs by Bella Kate Headband – Value $10
This is a simple stretchy cotton headband, but definitely a useful item for me. It fits my head and is comfortable and keeps all my little wispy hairs back from my face when I am working out. I like to have a lot of this type of item on hand so I can rotate them out and only wear clean ones. This seems well-made.
Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $15
This is a casual piece, either resin or glass over a decorative paper element with a wood backing. The chain is an antiqued brass finish and is designed to be a long pendant-style necklace. I find the look of this to be a bit more casual, and a bit unusual compared to most Box of Happies jewelry, but it matches a couple of items in my wardrobe and will look good layered with some other necklaces.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $40 for the August 2017 Box of Happies. Granted, a lot of those values came from the information card, but I don’t think any of them are too outrageous. The necklace, headband, and candle are great for me and the earrings will make a good gift (if you tend to need a lot of little gifts on short notice, this is a good subscription to get).
