Like most meal kits, BurgaBox comes to you packed in a cooler-bag situation within a cardboard box. It also includes directions on how to cook your meal.
BurgaBox has opted to use paper takeout containers for a lot of their ingredients. As you unpack further, you’ll find most ingredients in plastic bags, and a handful of plastic containers. Plenty of ice packs as well to keep your food fresh on arrival!
I received two cards in the BurgaBox of the Month Club going over all of the ingredients that come in this month’s box. The first card is for the featured burger and the second is the mac & cheese and french fries along with cooking instructions for each. A quick note that unlike the one-time Burger Kit Marne reviewed, the BurgaBox of the Month Club does not allow you to choose your sides. So, I automatically received the pizza mac & cheese and f-bomb fries.
Even though you are getting a ton of food, there aren't too many steps or chopping that you have to do this month. The instruction cards were easy to follow and nothing was too intimidating! Speaking of, I’m hungry, so let’s get cooking!
I started with the Pizza Pie Mac & Cheese. This comes pre-made so all you have to do is preheat the oven and bake (mine baked for 25 minutes). I was surprised by how many pepperoni slices came in this dish, but it really tasted exactly like a pizza!
Once I got my mac & cheese in the oven I was able to start on my F-Bomb Fries. They give you two cooking options, but I went with baking them in the oven since I was already using it for the mac & cheese. While those cook, you just warm the sweet onions and then add them to the top of the fries along with shredded cheese to warm all the way through. Once everything is melted into the fries you had the thousand island dressing. Wow, these F-Bomb Fries blew my mind. The onions mixed with the creaminess of the cheese and dressing with the crunch from the oven baked fries left me wanting to just snack on these right out of the oven. It is time to make the burgers though so I put these to the side to keep warm.
The burger instructions are a little more detailed so I asked my husband to help me make this month’s Scarface Burga! He started everything off by cutting the chorizo in half and cooking on the stovetop for 3 minutes each side. The instructions didn’t note to cut the chorizo in half again before topping it on the burger, but I would suggest doing so.
While he made the chorizo, I placed the pulled pork and sauce in a pan to warm and combine. I could have eaten this pulled pork on its own, and loved that the sauce wasn’t too spicy. I let this warm through for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, before setting to the side.
Next, you want to slice down the lettuce into strips, and then dress it with a lime vinaigrette. We also received a full tomato that we sliced and put to the side for when we were ready to build our burga.
Finally, we make the burgas! We decided to cook this on the stovetop instead of on our grill based on the instruction card, but I think we would use the grill the next time only because we splattered grease everywhere. Once the burger was cooked to our liking, we added a slice of swiss cheese and ham until melted (the instructions called to add two pieces of cheese to each burger, but we only received enough for one piece each).
From there, everything is done so you can start building! We started by adding the chipotle dijonnaise to each toasted and buttered bun. Then, we added lettuce and tomato, the swiss cheese and ham, and then the pulled pork and chorizo half.
Just add your sides, the extra coleslaw, the Boston baked beans that come in every month’s box and you are done! The description for The Scarface Burga is that it is like a Cuban sandwich but beefed up, which makes sense since you have three extra meats on top of the burga. My first thought was wow this is huge, and then my second was wow is this good! There is a lot going on, but you really get the flavors from the pulled pork and the juiciness of the burger. I really thought that the chipotle dijonnaise was the shining star. One of the toppings listed were pickles, but we didn’t receive any in our box and I think I was missing a bit of crunch that they would have added. I think I would have maybe added a bigger piece of the chorizo because I couldn’t taste that too much in each bite, but I did love the extra bite that the swiss cheese added to this loaded burga!
Verdict: This was my first experience with BurgaBox, and I can safely say that it left me full for days! At first I was really overwhelmed by how much food there was, but realized that the cooking instructions are super fast and easy! It was also fun to be able to cook a meal with my husband. The BurgaBox of the Month Club is $59 per month for two people which breaks down to $29.50 for each. From the burger, fries, mac & cheese, and then the extra sides of slaw and beans you have enough food for more than two people or at least days of leftovers. While this isn’t something I would order at a restaurant, the quality of everything was up to par with a nice restaurant. Factoring in the quality and quantity I would say that the value is absolutely worth it! I also really like that BurgaBox is just one meal instead of multiples, which is unlike other meal kits I have tried. I was so impressed with this box that I am already thinking about gifting these to a few burga lovers I know!
