This month's project is making a desk organizer! Perfect timing for school! The skill focus is mosaics. My nine-year-old son usually does these projects. This is the booklet that came in our box this month.
Here's a peek inside the booklet at the instructions. They were clear and well illustrated, so they were easy for my son to follow. The booklet also always contains good tips and suggestions for practicing.
These are all the supplies that were included for this month's project. Everything we needed was included.
The first step was the lengthiest: making the mosaics on the sides of the box. One was all squares, which he made in kind of a random pattern, and the other was diamonds and triangles, which he made this cool 3D pattern on. It reminds us both of Minecraft! He made the mosaics by gluing down tiles to the wood on a grid.
After the mosaics had dried a bit, it was time to assemble the box. He applied some glue to the foam base.
Then he stuck the inside wooden bottom (with the guides) on top of it. He applied a glue line around the bottom border where the other walls would stick.
He then inserted the side walls.
Then he inserted the long mosaic walls.
He then added inserts to the inside of the box to organize all his desk supplies.
This is his completed desk organizer! I think it looks really impressive!
Verdict: Doodle Crate is SO awesome! This project was a lot of fun, and I love when the project turns out to be a really nice keepsake. It's even cooler when I know it's something he will use! I still can't believe what Doodle Crate can provide for $20. When you consider the materials, the curation, the project selection, and instructions, that's really a bargain! Most importantly, it always sets the stage for some fun times crafting with my son.
