Julep Blank Canvas Mattifying - Value $28

This is a new beauty release for Julep, and I'm all about trying new products!

The formula felt a bit more like a moisturizer than a primer, but it dried matte with a smooth finish. It didn't keep me completely shine-free all day, but it worked just as well as most other primers I've sampled. (So, I'll use this tube up completely, but I won't buy it again.)

Julep Nail Polish in Wilma - Retail Value $14

This color is described as a "Mojave Sunrise Gold Chrome." And it really lives up to that lovely name!

It's rose gold in a certain light, more silver in other views, and in general, it's just a perfect neutral metallic. (And only one coat for full coverage!)

(Swatched in lower photo.)

(And good to know: you can pull the caps off of the tops of these bottles to swatch them!)

Julep Nail Polish in Lizzy - Retail Value $14

This shade is a "Cappuccino Crème."

The finish is a high-shine creme, and it's pretty much my dream neutral nail. I could wear this every day.

This color took two coats to get full coverage.

Here it is on with the Wilma color:

Verdict: I'm loving my nail color choices this month! And I appreciate that I got to sample the primer at a deep discount. (As a subscriber on the $24.99 monthly plan, each item in this box cost me $8.33.) I highly recommend this subscription if you love nail polish and/or you like having control over your beauty box items1

I was amazed at how long the polish lasts! I was anxious to try another one, but 10 days later, still no chips! This might not be true of every one, but so far so good! The first free 12 set is impressive. I recommend keeping a list of what you get. It’s easier to choose in the future without looking through your whole stash.

Okay y’all can someone please explain to me how this works if you don’t like nail polish? Do you get to choose strictly from the new releases they have each month or can you go into their store and pick any two items? The products look seriously awesome but I’m just a tad bit confused….

I received my free set and love the colors. I got extremely excited when I saw that one of the polishes was named after my late mother, Kay. I used a gold sparkly polish and it goes on so well. I just picked out what I wanted today and I’m getting the other primer. Not the matte one. I also ordered some polish for $5 each. Can’t beat that!

Did anyone who got the mattifying primer break out? I saw several people in a Facebook Julep group I’m a member of complain they got terrible breakouts after using the primer.

I’ve been using the mattifying primer for about a month. I agree it’s a pretty good primer but doesn’t really mattify. I had a breakout at the beginning of the 4th week but it was in an area I don’t focus primer on so I’m pretty sure it was stress related. That Smashbox primer that shows up everywhere makes me breakout though! Ugh.

Oooh that Wilma looks nice! And of course you had to have Lizzy. I always buy anything named Bonnie or Bonbon.

I just joined and won’t get my first box until September, but I do want to say something about the free 12 polishes. It has been noted that you don’t get the ones in the picture and that some of the sets haven’t been very nice. Mine was beautiful. My only gripe is that the 11th and 12th were the same one! No big worries though. I have 11 new beauties in my collection and gave the dupe to my boss. Honestly, with the hundreds I have, will I really mind being one color short?

I loved my 12 polish selection too. And then the colors I didn’t get but wish I had, I am slowing getting with my sub.

That being said, they could be up front about it and mention that the selection you get isn’t the pictured set. Some people are going to complain no matter what, but I think a lot of the complaints would be prevented with better expectations laid out.

I agree.

I hated one of my picks this month. I got Eve and didn’t realize it was matte finish.

I got eve and was disappointed at first too. Tried it again a month later with a top coat and now I love it!

Wilma is my favorite nailpolish, ever. Its gorgeous, it goes on flawlessly and is the perfect amount of neutral and glitz. Its only down side is rven completely dry its still a bit soft but a good top coat cures that easy.

Bonnie

It really does look beautiful.
