Wabi-Sabi Botanicals BODHI Citrus Mimosa Balm Concentrate (50 mL.) - $76.00

This thick shea butter balm reminds me of the brilliant yellow of an egg yolk. This nighttime treatment is perfect for parched skin and contains antioxidants, retinol, fatty acids and macadamia nut, plum seed and passion flower oils. It smells citrusy and feels so decadent. It can even be used as a hair treatment!

Herbivore Travel Sea Mist Texturizing Salt Spray - Coconut (2 oz.) - $12.00

This fine mist is a great way to add some texture to your hair, but it can also double as a refreshing body mist. The aloe vera balances out the salinity to avoid crunchy, dry hair. The coconut and vanilla essences make you feel like you’re on a tropical escape. Love this spray!

Verdict: I am thrilled with both items this month! The balm will last a long time, a little goes a long way and I love the bright smell. The mist is so yummy smelling I will need to get more when I finish this bottle. This month’s Clean Beauty Box value is $88 which is more than double the $39 cost of the box and is a fantastic value especially for an ingredient conscious beauty box. Clean Beauty sends full-size, high-end products packaged beautifully and has top-notch customer service. What’s not to love?!

I really love natural beauty subscription boxes. I subscribe to 7 different boxes. I have never had a problem with any of the products or a subscription box company until now.

When I opened up the Wabi-Sabi Botanicals BODHI Citrus Mimosa Balm Concentrate the smell was awful. It smelled as if it had gone bad. I looked on the container for an expiration date but there wasn’t one.

I emailed Art of Organics to let them know and to see if I could send it back and get another one.

This is there response:

We spoke with Wabi-Sabi who advised the following regarding the scent.

“Sometimes the smell of the raw Shea butter can put people off. It’s not rancid, but some do think that it has a funky scent, which we try to offset with the cocoa butter, waxes, etc. The product doesn’t contain any water, of course, so it’s unusual that it would smell rancid unless water was introduced to it somehow.”

This is a brand new batch of product made for us and we have not had any other concerns about the scent. This of course does not discount your experience, I just wanted to let you know. Perhaps you just aren’t loving the scent of the balm. We do not take returns on opened, non-damaged product, however we’d be happy to apply a 10% discount towards your next month’s box.

I have use raw shea butter many times and it has never smelled like this and there was absolutely no citrus scent. I love earthy scents and this is not an earthy scent.

I find it odd that a company that states that it has a “100% Satisfaction Guarantee
If you’re not happy with your box we’ll do everything in our power to make it right. Just let us know.” will not allow me to return the product that has obviously gone bad and has no expiration date. They offered me 10 %, or 4 $ off my next box for a 76$ product. I am definitely not 100% satisfied.

Has anyone experienced anything like this from any subscription box company or any cosmetic company?

Thank you!

That’s great to know that the hair mist can be used as a body mist too! I’m currently using the Jasmine hair mist (it’s marketed as a hair fragrance, rather than a sea salt spray), and it smells so nice! At least I know I have another option for it too! 😀

Also, upon seeing the picture of Art of Organic’s info card, that reminded me that I always appreciated all of the info they include in the card: product description, usage instructions & tips, key ingredients, brand info, and about the artist who created that month’s print (one of my favorite features). I know other beauty boxes include similar info, so I’m thinking maybe it’s just how it’s all laid out in different sections that appeals to my eye. 🙂
