Every month, your candle comes wrapped in a square of fabric.

This month's fabric felt a little lacking - I think it's just a cut-up terry cloth towel.

Each box comes with an info card detailing the candles featured that month:

Now, on to the candle!

Socal Candle Co. Oceanside Travel Candle - Value $12

This is a 4-ounce soy candle, with a burn time of 20-25 hours.

The fragrance is a mix of coconut and lime - it feels very beachy! You know how there are some scents where you sniff and immediately think of vacation? This is one of them.

True Lemon/Grapefruit Packets - Extra

OK, I wasn't too excited for this extra item until I looked up uses for True Lemon. Apparently, it's a great ingredient to use when cooking to replace salt. (My husband Eric and I are on month 2 of cutting out added sodium from our diets, so this could be a game changer for us!)

And the ingredient list is simple - just citric acid, lemon oil, and lemon juice!

Verdict:  VellaBox typically comes right in at cost, and it did again this month. ($12+ value) I think that's fair, and I love that there is an inexpensive candle box that works with lots of independent candle makers! And I'm LOVING my candle scent this month! (But very much hoping for a classic fall scent for September!)

I was thinking the fabric was supposed to be like a beach towel to go with the ocean candle. I think it’s cute.

I buy the true lemon in a large shaker bottle. I add it to everything from soups to drinks to roasted veggies. I wrote a note to the company on their website asking for some samples and they sent me one or two of every product plus wrote me the sweetest note. I am a bit of a lemon freak and even though I always have fresh lemons on hand I still love this stuff. My favorite is the grapefruit one but I haven’t found that in the large shaker bottle yet.

I loved the candle scent this month! I thought it was a washcloth that the candle was wrapped in. Strange but useful!

I think the wrap is supposed to be a towel for the beachy vibe of the candle.

I don’t know if I’d use it as a salt replacement, but it’s great to use True Lemon in cola without worrying about getting seeds in your drink.

I totally do this too! My personal favorite is either an ice cold Diet Coke with lemon, or an iced tea with the grapefruit. There are shakers of these, in addition to the “on the go” packets.

The company also released new cooking “true” flavors. There is an orange ginger and a lime, garlic cilantro that are flipping fantastic. These have proved very versatile in the types of recipes you can use them in ( Asian, Mexican, etc. ). I love using the true lime in black beans to zest it up, or the true lemon over chicken, and on and on the list goes. These are ( obviously) some of my favorite things to have in the kitchen!

Oh man! I was JUST looking at those spice mixes! I need to get my hands on that lime/garlic/cilantro! I’m a total cilantro freak.

@Marion – that’s genius! After a trip in Europe where everyone puts a lemon in their cola, I find it hard to 1) find a lemon wedge to put in and 2) the seeds do get everywhere. Will now try True Lemon!
