The August ZEN BOX includes Zen Magnolia Essential Oil, Zen Sweet Orange Essential Oil and Zen Allergy & Immune Response Blend.
This box made significant changes to the subscription as of January 2017. I think it was a good idea to switch to bi-monthly boxes. Three oils a month is a lot to learn about and use on a monthly basis. Plus, I learned from Zen Box information emails that the shelf life of essential oils is generally 1.5-2 years depending on how well they were stored so that is a lot of oil to use when you have a subscription box.
The information on each product and how to use it is sent as a link to a PDF document which you can see by clicking on this link. The information ZEN BOX sends is useful and I like that they tell provide source and production information for their oils as this is one of the telltale signs of pure, high-quality oils. The downside is that it is a lot of information. I wish they would synthesize the information better or include infographics to make it easier to read. They have been sending shorter (and more practical) emails with essential oil since the beginning of this year.
Zen Magnolia Essential Oil – Value $14.99?
I adore magnolia. We used to have them all over when I lived in Texas. This doesn’t smell as sweet as the flower. It smells a bit woodsy to me. I added it to my vitamin E oil that I put on after my bath to make my skin soft and smell great too!
ZEN BOX says magnolia oil can be used for:
- Urinary tract infections
- Allergy relief
- Dry skin relief
- Antibacterial
- Antianxiety
ZEN BOX is always a bit late with adding the oils in their box to their website. You should be able to find this one sometime in August.
Zen Sweet Orange Essential Oil – Value $13.99
I love the pick me up smell of the orange oils and just like the name, this one smells a bit sweeter than regular orange oils. It’s great to use in homemade cleaning products!
The ZEN BOX information says Sweet Orange essential oil can be used in the following ways:
- Digestive support
- Antidepressant
- Astringent
- Immuno-stimulant
Zen Air Soothe & Purify Diffuser Blend – Value $15.99?
This blend made from lavender, lime, rosemary, eucalyptus, ginger, peppermint, and cardamom helps “fight against hay fever, allergies, sinus problems and seasonal changes.” Both my husband and my daughter have allergies so I will make them inhale this and apply it to their sinuses as soon as they start sneezing and sniffling.
You should also be able to find this one sometime in August.
Verdict: I really enjoy ZEN BOX. I love trying new oils and learning about their various uses. The information ZEN BOX sends has been one of the best parts for me (although sometimes I wish there was a little less of it). I like reading the history of each oil that is included in the information they send. I always learn something new about the flower or herb and how to use the essential oil.
These oils are not the cheapest you can find but remember that it’s important to buy essential oils from a reputable supplier since they are not regulated. Many cheaper oils are cut with other oils and are not be pure and the prices of these oils are on par with the high-quality retailers I’m familiar with. ZEN BOX says their oils are 100% pure therapeutic quality and are gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) tested, which is the way essential oils are tested for purity. The tests are conducted by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), a multinational company providing inspection, verification, testing and certification services. I requested to see one of the GC/MS reports and ZEN BOX sent it to me the same day. I’m certainly no expert but at this point I feel comfortable purchasing oils from ZEN BOX.
The value is just okay if you pay full price – basically it includes shipping. The box is currently on sale for $32.99 and the products this month are estimated at $44.97. I’ve seen cheaper essential oil boxes but I trust the quality of this box and that means a lot since there is so much variation in quality for essential oils.
