Homemade Doughnuts by Kamal Grant – Value $18.88 on Amazon (retail price $24.99)
This cookbook is gorgeously done. Every page is glossy and each recipe is accompanied with a full-color photo. While there are many recipes for doughnuts including cake, yeast and gluten-free; there are also recipes for glazes, fillings and frostings. The back of the cookbook contains surprising recipes that use fried dough in savory forms such as empanadas and hush puppies. The only problem with this cookbook will be deciding which sweet treat to make first!
Not Your Mother’s Slow Cooker Recipes for Entertaining by Beth Hensperger - Value $11.52 on Amazon (retail price $19.95)
I prefer my cookbooks to have lots of photographs and unfortunately, this one doesn’t, but as for the recipes, many sound very appealing. The cookbook starts off with a few pages of color photographs. The rest of the book is all recipes. The recipes run the gamut from appetizers, main dishes, side dishes, desserts to drinks. All can easily be made in your slow cooker. Cooking in the slow cooker is especially convenient for me in the fall and winter when I’m busy during the week at school and my kids are at after-school activities. It’s so lovely knowing when we walk in the door on a blustery day that a warm dinner is awaiting us. While these recipes are geared for entertaining many will work just fine for a family of four.
Verdict: The value of BookCase.Club this month was over $30 (using Amazon prices) which is double the cost of the box ($9.99 a month plus $5 shipping)! I am very happy with the value and both selections this month. As someone who loves to discover new recipes and also just enjoys perusing cookbooks for inspiration I think this is a subscription that’s great for me personally. I can’t wait to see what they send next month.
