This month, I did not receive any kind of information card. There was a coupon from one of the brands in the box, though.
Optimum Nutrition Protein Cake Bites in Chocolate Frosted Donut Flavor (2.22 oz) – Value $1.67 (buy 12 packages for $19.99 on Amazon)
I buy Opti-Bars and some other products from this company, so these had been on my radar (actually they’d been following me around in an internet ad for some time). I am happy to have finally gotten a chance to try them. They do not remind me at all of a flour-based cake, but they do have a spongy (not chewy or tough) texture and they taste great. They’re low in sugar (and low in fiber…) but nicely balanced in protein and fat. I have already ordered a box of these from Amazon.
BuffBoxx Hot and Cold Pack – Value $0.91
There is always one BuffBoxx promotional item in BuffBoxx and I have to give them credit, but it is always something different. This is one of the more useful of the items, too. It is kind of fun to play with as a stress reliever, but it’s actually a hot and cold pack you can freeze or microwave (there are instructions on the back). I don’t have any pain right now so I can’t say how it works at the moment. (I totally could’ve used this about 6 weeks ago after I had oral surgery…) You can buy samples of the same or a very similar product for $0.91 each from the website linked to in the product name, so that’s where the value comes from.
Wod & Done Hand Protection (2 packages) – Value $3.20 (buy a 5 pack for $7.99)
I’ve received these in a number of fitness subscription boxes in the past, so I know they work. I like to use them with my heaviest kettlebell, which kind of tears up my palms. (These protect my hands from such things.) This particular product is designed to be single-use, which is definitely more sanitary if you are going to be sweating, although it also feels like it would generate a lot of trash over time.
Driven Whey in Fresh Cinnamon Roll Flavor (10 servings) – Value $9.86 (buy 71 servings for $69.99)
I love getting vegetarian protein powders. I started making smoothies every morning to use up all the powders I receive in fitness subscription boxes, and this brand was new to me. (It has a lot of dairy ingredients, for what it’s worth.) This really smells like a cinnamon roll, including a bit of a caramelized sugar smell. It went nicely into this morning’s smoothie, and this package will last me awhile (I don’t use a whole serving at once). This also has BCAAs (branched chain amino acids) which I think help me with delayed-onset muscle soreness.
Hydracup 2.0 Dual Shaker Cup – Value $11.99
This was really difficult to photograph because of the color so I will describe it some for you. It actually has two different compartments where you can store two different drinks and a separate opening for each side. I’m not personally sure how useful this is for me as I usually just make one drink at a time (for example, BCAA powder in water when I work out) and prefer a larger amount, but if you are really precise about what beverages and supplements you consume pre-, during, and post-workout, this could mean carrying less stuff around in your gym bag.
Reebok Mesh Front Tank in Black – Value $22
With this version of BuffBoxx, you always get one piece of Reebok fitness apparel. This month, it is a black tank. It is the sort of tank where you can show off a pretty sports bra. It is super breathable, which is great since it is still hot here in the Atlanta area and my basement workout room doesn’t get great air circulation. The fabric is comfortable and the fit is good while still allowing freedom of movement (BuffBoxx clothing always fits me, though, since I can choose my actual size and I don’t have to size up).
Verdict: I calculated a value of $49.63 for the August BuffBoxx. That is not the highest value I’ve ever had for Buffboxx, but it is right about at the month-to-month cost of the subscription, and other months have been quite a bit higher, so I’d say things average out pretty well. This seemed like a back-to-basics month for me; although I did learn about one new snack that I now love, most of the items were simple fitness essentials. Maybe this was not the most exciting month of all time for me, but the items were definitely useful.
What did you think of the August BuffBoxx? Do you subscribe to any fitness, weight loss, or workout subscriptions?
