Find the Good by Heather Lende - Retail Value $16.95 (On Amazon for $9.99)

Book summary from Amazon:

Quirky and profound, individual and universal, Find the Good offers up short chapters that help us unlearn the habit--and it is a habit--of seeing only the negatives. Lende reminds us that we can choose to see any event--starting a new job or being laid off from an old one, getting married or getting divorced--as an opportunity to find the good. As she says, “We are all writing our own obituary every day by how we live. The best news is that there’s still time for additions and revisions before it goes to press.”

Ever since Algonquin published her first book, the New York Times bestseller If You Lived Here, I’d Know Your Name, Heather Lende has been praised for her storytelling talent and her plainspoken wisdom. The Los Angeles Times called her “part Annie Dillard, part Anne Lamott,” and that comparison has never been more apt as she gives us a fresh, positive perspective from which to view our relationships, our obligations, our priorities, our community, and our world.

An antidote to the cynicism and self-centeredness that we are bombarded with every day in the news, in our politics, and even at times in ourselves, Find the Good helps us rediscover what’s right with the world.

First, points for this being a short book! When you're looking at a stack of books and thinking of which to start next, little ones like these are so easy to grab and finish in a day!

At first, I thought it was weird seeing an inspirational book from an obituary writer, but as soon as I dug in, it made so much sense. Reflecting on the most important things that highlight a life is a great way to frame your life in the present, too.

And this book came with a matching bookmark from Inspired Book Club! They encourage you to share the book with a friend after you read it. You can write a note to go along with it:

They also include a suggested reading schedule:

And once you are done with the book, they will pay for the shipping to donate it, if you prefer!

I love how thoughtful this subscription is!

Now time for the treat yo' self goodies!

Portland Bee Balm - Value $3

I've sampled this lip balm before and it's great! The wood veneer(?) label is lovely, and the minty beeswax formula is similar to Burt's Bees!

Bee Local Honey Sticks – Value $4.50

I’ve sampled this honey before and it is lovely.

In addition to the typical tea use, it's great as a cocktail sweetener!

And Inspired Book Club sent along tea, too!

Luna Tea Co. Citrus Dream Organic Herbal Blend  - Value $6

LOVE this test tube packaging! This sweet and citrusy blend is perfect for my tastes. (It is sweetened a bit with stevia leaf, so I didn't need to add any honey.)

Mesh Ball Tea Infuser - Value $5?

Unlike your typical tea infuser, this one has a stone accent! (And I always love when subscription box companies include tea bags or infusers when the send loose leaf tea!)

Slow North Rosemary + Lemon Soy Candle - 2 oz Value $9

OMG! I sample so many candles thanks to subscription boxes, and I like most of them, but I LOVE this one! It's made with soy wax and it is scented only with natural essential oils! No artificial fragrance!

And the lemon scent is so incredibly fresh! The hint of rosemary is a perfect addition, too. (Time for me to buy candles from Slow North!)

Zen Bath Raspberry Lemonade Bath Bomb - Value $5

This is more raspberry than lemonade, so it doesn't have the citrus scent I love, but it's a sweet berry bath bomb.

Verdict: I'm so impressed with this box! It is just so incredibly thoughtful! I think it would be great to get yourself or to gift. (And it's the gift that keeps giving as you can pass the book along when you've finished reading it.)

This box has a retail value of about $49.45 (or about $42.50 with the Amazon pricing for the book). The cost for the box is $34.99, so I think that's a good value for a book box, especially with all the thoughtful extras!

I love the idea but I don’t like the fact it’s not that great of a value. If it was 25 I would definitely get it!

This is one of those boxes where the cost vs value isn’t amazing, but the items themselves are so thoughtfully chosen that it really doesn’t matter. Nice box of goodies!

How thoughtful to include a means by which to donate the book after reading it. This is a truly thoughtful idea and Box. Wow. The items are actually nice, too.

Great box to review. I like everything that I’ve read in your review of it.
