Macy’s has a new beauty subscription box! Every month, they send you deluxe product samples, a bonus item, and a collectible cosmetics bag. Plus, you also get a $5 beauty coupon for use in-store and online.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This is the collectible bag for this month! I love the travel design, and the red zipper pull is a nice touch!

The Subscription Box: Macy’s Beauty Box

The Cost: $15 a month + free shipping

The Products: Each month you will receive five deluxe beauty samples, one bonus item, a collectible cosmetics bag and a $5 beauty coupon exclusively for Beauty Box subscribers, available for use online and in-store.

Ships to: the 48 contiguous United States. The Macy's Beauty Box cannot be shipped to PO Boxes, APO/FPO/GPO address, Hawaii, Alaska or U.S. Territories at this time.

Check out more beauty subscription boxes in the Women's Subscription Box Directory!

Keep Track of Your Subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wishlist!

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included:

You'll also receive a $5 off coupon, which is good for beauty purchases in-store and online.

Now, on to the items!

DermaBlend Pro Setting Powder – 5 g Value $4.80

I just got this sample in last month's BeautyFix box! So, it's not a new discovery for me, but I'm happy to have more.

This is everything you’d want in a setting powder: super lightweight, invisible, helps mattify skin and gives a bit of a blurring effect.

Clinique Moisture Surge - 7 ml Value $5.60

This is a classic for a reason! It's a lightweight gel/cream formula that absorbs almost instantly and provides lots of hydration. (And it is fragrance and oil free!)

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance - 15 ml Value $11

This primer absorbs quickly and gives your skin a soft and luminous finish. It's a super subtle glow, so it will be lost under full-coverage foundation, but it would also be great on its own without any foundation.

Here it is swatched (not blended in):

Ahava Time to Clear Purifying Mud Mask – .9 oz Value $7

I'm sampled this before and I'm a fan for two reasons:

  • This is a 2-minute mask! (Yay for quick beauty treatments!)
  • It makes my skin feel super soft!

Again, like most of the items in this box, nothing new here, but a solid beauty item.

Vince Camuto Ciao - 2.6 ml Value $2.25

And each Macy's Beauty Box comes with a perfume sample. This one has top notes of Italian Mandarin, Pink Grapefruit, Wild Strawberry and Blackberry. I'm not much of a perfume wearer, but I like the sweet citrus scent of this one!

Verdict: So, if you get this box or you've seen the full spoilers, you might have noticed that my Burt's Bees Hand Salve was missing from the box. I called Macy's to let them know the sample was missing, and while they couldn't send me a replacement, they refunded me the entire cost of this month's box. That's above and beyond what I was expecting, so my one customer care experience with them has been impressive. (If you have interacted with their customer care, please let us know your experience.)

With out the Burt's Bees sample, the total value of this box is about $30.65, so let's be generous and say $35 if the sample had been included. While that's a pretty good value for a $15 beauty box, I think it's a little light compared to other $15 beauty boxes.

That being said, you do get a custom beauty bag with every box, and $5 off a Macy's purchase, so that may add value for a lot of subscribers.

I definitely think this box is worth the money for me, but I'd love to see them include a better variety of classic beauty items + new product launches/new brand discoveries.

There’s a post in reddit today that says someone found a tower of the September box available in their local store. Not sure if all stores have them but worth stopping by if you’re interested in getting one and don’t want to sub for it.

All beauty is 15% off on the Macy’s site right now, btw.

I am really liking this sub and I think it is gaining momentum. I think the bags are a better quality than Ipsy. I got my box on the 2nd, they did however take my money out on 8/31.

I haven’t even received mine yet. How long do they usually take? This was supposed to be my first month.

I like all the products and I think the bag is cute. This is my first Macy’s bag and I am happy with it.

The Ahava product was missing from my bag. It took me a while to explain that to a rep. First rep didn’t know what a beauty box subscription meant. Finally, they agreed to give me a full refund since they couldn’t replace the missing item. Then she told me she would be sending me a return label. I told her I would not be returning anything. I would be surprised if they actually credit my account considering the confusing conversation. The products are ones I like. However, the price point is high considering other beauty box subscriptions have better valued products.

Customer service is in the Philippines. I have a very hard time.

I love the products in this subscription…. But the bag itself looks cheap. I would keep this subscription for the products, but I do not think I could continue due to their customer service and billing practices. Something is not quite right. First month they billed me double the charge of the beauty box. Second month, they billed earlier than they had posted on their site. When I asked them if they knew it could cause banking problems for people the answer was simply, “yes”. But claimed that’s the way they had to do it…bill twice with one charge dropping off. It did drop off, but in the meantime..it subtracts from bank or card available balance. Had to call my bank… reversed chgs. Unacceptable practices. Never heard of or had anyone bill double chgs for anything. Customer service have no acceptable answers either. Seems quite dishonest to me. Hard to believe…this is Macy’s mind you.

Macy’s emailed me a survey regarding my online purchase. I decided to do it and clarified it wasn’t really a “online purchase”, but their beauty box. I was pretty blunt how I felt about it and that they don’t really compare to other subs for the same price. They compare to $10 subs. (as well as other comments about the small items, etc) It asked if they could contact me regarding my responses, I agreed. (by email) Somehow, I doubt they will! Sure, the items sent are decent. The price point vs value, is more on trend with a lesser expensive sub though.

I’ve been very pleased with the Macy’s Beauty Box…I always seem to be able to use everything I’ve received. I always need primer and setting powder, and love being able to throw a perfume sample in my purse. Macy’s Beauty Box is a huge improvement over the month after month disappointing Ipsy bags.

I had the worst customer experience of my life with this bag! The first problem was that their rep had never even heard of their own bag and kept asking me which brand of cosmetics since they were unaware of the bag and this was at the number provided by this sub. After that, their reps and supervisors were beyond unprofessional and were also untruthful (the polite way of describing their actions). Although I had already cancelled online and on the phone, they still sent a box 3 weeks later. I told them it would be returned to sender unopened and a supervisor said I would still be charged for it. And this was 3 weeks after I cancelled! My credit card company was thankfully on the line with me and their CS reps at the same time and they were questioning them as well, especially when a supervisor told them that CS cannot cancel this already cancelled sub. My credit card company rep was incredulous at their rudeness and lack of both professionalism and logic. No thanks, Macy’s. My credit card company issued me a credit and a month later, Macy’s finally agreed to pay it back to them.

Cancelled after this month’s bag as well. I have gotten better things in a $10 box from Ipsy or Play and I gave Macy’s two months but just not enough that made it worth the $15.00
Sorry, wanted to love it but just don’t.

Interesting, I’ve never gotten anything better from Ipsy. It’s always been one good item (usually the one I requested) out of five. I am unsubscribing at the end of this month, I gave it five months, but it’s not getting better.

Macy’s I’ll keep for another month – I do like it better in the sense that I am getting all usable products, but I am not wowed with the value. I want to see if the value improves.

I guess I’m in the minority on this one – I’m actually happy with this month’s selections.

I’d prefer larger sizes, however, the samples seemed a little larger than I expected. And I loved the selection. I even thought the travel theme bag is too cute.

All very usable items for me. No complaints at all this go around.

Can you combine the $5 off coupons? I think I threw mine away. I was so upset about the box being underwhelming and the customer service being so bad.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

No, you can’t.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

Are you sure? Nowhere in the fine print does it say you can’t combine them, and they are good for two months. Has anyone tried?

Gloria

I was hoping for this to be a better experience. My credit card expired so I wont be updating the info.

Although I like the contents of the bag price point is not there. I like Play! better.

I think this looks pathetic & boring for $15… but I hope those that got it are happy!

I did not get this months box. Is anyone selling there box or swapping there box?

Reply ButtonReply

The Rach

Willing to sell or swap. It is unopened. Please email my gmail pugsrock1987

JuJu

I didn’t realize the bag this month would be fabric and I wish the perfume this month wasn’t Vince Camuto (not a fan of this scent), but everything else will get used.

Boring…….I cancelled all subs and am waiting for my new sub to Boxy Charm

I have to say that I was pretty happy with My first Macy’s bag. The bag itself is cute (it’s actually cuter in person and feels like there’s a thin padding on the sides).

But, I’m new to beauty sub boxes.

I love the Laura Mercier primer. Loved the mask. The translucent powder will get used. My SIL loves Clinique so she’s happy to have that. The salve is a little odd, but it’s useable.

I like the recognizable name brands.

I still have to call and see why they charged me twice, but hopefully it will get worked out.

This may be very pedestrian but at least I know I would actually use all of the products. Would never subscribe, but potentially might buy after full spoilers.

Plus this bag is cute.

I decided to give them a second month, but it looks like they skipped over me. The information about my subscription is pretty sketchy so I have no idea what they’ve done. Maybe they will ship October, maybe I’m done. I expected much better from Macy’s

Reply ButtonReply

Lunalee

They skipped me last month even though I signed up right from the beginning. I got this one yesterday though.

Calilaci

Me too! I never received last months box and I called customer service three times but each time I got someone who barely spoke English and couldn’t help me. That was frustrating because I really wanted last months box too.

carey

It makes me sad, but I am so underwhelmed by this box. 🙁 I am usually quite easy to please too! lol

I have until the 10th to cancel for next month I believe, I am either gonna ride it out one more month or call it quits for sure if it is another lame box. I am not getting boxy or Glossy right now, waiting for BF deals I know are coming, lol, so I get Macys, Beautyfix, Allure Ipsy and Sephora. I think that’s the entire list right now as far as beauty boxes. So i kinda expect Macy’s to be at least as good as the above. It’s like they aren’t even trying.

Reply ButtonReply

Viola

I ended up cancelling, even though I wanted to give it more time, didn’t receive all of my products….

Reply ButtonReply

Jayne

I cancelled too. I am just on product overload right now. I need to spend my $5 coupons though (so more products!!).

I really wish my husband’s side of the family wore makeup or used skincare (other than just aloe!!). My own sister hoards like I do so she’s out for pawning off extras lol!

I think it’s a pretty decent bag if you don’t have a huge stash already.
