Fun and Function Discovery Putty (Transportation Station) - Value $14.99

This stretchy putty is the consistency of Silly Putty in a bright orange color. It comes with 12 plastic vehicles that can be hidden within the putty and then dug back out. This putty comes in other fun themes as well. I love that it helps strengthen fine motor skills and there are many color recognition, counting and language skills that can be practiced while searching for the animals. The putty is gluten, latex and soy free. My kids both loved playing with this putty. They took turns hiding the pieces for each other and then searching for them.

Travel Spirograph - Value $8.01

What a blast from the past. I used to have a Spirograph as a child in the 80s and I loved it! This is a fabulous travel sized kit. The lid slides open and holds the markers and precision wheels. This will be great to pack for our next plane trip, small, light and fun. This promotes fine motor skills and is a soothing activity to help relax when a child is feeling anxious.

Crocodile Big Bite Puppet - Value $5.95

Working this rubbery crocodile puppet helps build fine motor skills. Playing with puppets also has language and social-emotional benefits. It’s very stretchy and even has bumps for tactile stimulation.

This yoyo is a fun, stretchy fidget. It’s perfect for settings when a silent fidget is required such as the classroom.

Porcupine Ball Pencil Topper – Value $0.21 (Buy 24 for $4.99)

This spiky ball has a hole in it to fit right over the top of your pencil. It’s a great way to provide a little bit of tactile stimulation in school or at home when your child is doing homework. Rubbing the spike of the ball can help your child focus on their seatwork tasks.

Quote Card – Bonus

As a bonus a Dr. Seuss quote card was included this month.

Verdict: We just love our Sensory TheraPlay Box. While this box is especially geared towards children on the Autism spectrum or with sensory issues it’s also for “kiddos with emotional disturbance (e.g., hyperactivity, impulsivity, excessive anxiety, temper tantrums, poor coping skills).” My children were able to enjoy the items’ different textures and benefit from the stress-relieving components as well. Plus so many of these items are just downright fun! I think the box fills a great niche market. The value was over $52 this month which is more than the cost of the box ($39.95 plus shipping). For the curation alone I highly recommend this box to educators, therapists, and parents!

I’m sad that the shipping for Canada is 25$, almost the price of the box, because my son would benefit from certain of those items.

Melissa

I have a 14 year old nephew on the Autism spectrum. The site says this box is designed for ages 5-9 but I think he may still enjoy many of the products. Anyone have experience with this for older kids/teen?

Melissa, my 12 year old with autism loves these products. I do, too, if I’m being honest. They’re fun even if you don’t need the sensory benefits. My daughter really does get a lot of use out of them.
