Each box comes with an info card and a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more.

Now, on to the items!

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara - FULL SIZE! Value $8

Well, if you've wanted to try this mascara, you can buy this box to get it at a discount and get everything else for free!

I was happy with the formula. It's not a fabulous, but it's not bad. It added length and volume, but I wish the lash separation was better. (The comb part of the mascara wand didn't help much with this.) Overall, I'll use the whole tube, but I probably won't buy it again. Mascara grade? A solid B.

Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb - 6 ml Vaolue $1.65

This formula (and packaging) remind me a lot of Neutrogena's Hydro Boost. And that's a good thing! This light gel is moisturizing, gentle, and absorbs quickly - no greasy finish whatsoever! (And while I would have preferred it to be unscented, the fragrance is subtle.)

Sensodyne ProNamel Strong & Bright Toothpaste - .8 oz Value $1.60

I'm always happy to see toothpaste in subscription boxes - theses sizes are perfect for travel. And the minty flavor is great!

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water - 1.9 oz Value $1.25

This makeup remover is very gentle and unlike some makeup removers that can leave your skin feeling dry, this one actually made my skin feel more hydrated! (I use the Simple Makeup Wipes regularly and love this for spot makeup removal with a Q-tip.)

Acure Ultra-Hydrating Shampoo - 1 oz Value $1.25

Acure is a frequently featured brand in Target Beauty Boxes, and I'm always happy to have more from this brand! They are my favorite inexpensive ingredient-conscious brand.

Acure Ultra-Hydrating Conditioner - 1 oz Value $1.25

This set works well, and I love the anise scent! I can't say I can notice a difference between this and other shampoo/conditioner I use, but my hair is clean and soft!

Up&Up Premium Cotton Rounds - 2 Value $.05

OK, it's a little weird getting just 2 cotton rounds, but I often use Target Beauty Boxes to pack for travel, so these are actually perfect!

Nivea In Shower Body Lotion - 2.7 oz Value $1.10

This is an in-shower lotion. You apply it while your skin is wet, rub it in, then rinse it off. I was actually surprised that it didn't seem to leave my skin very moisturized! (But if you're looking for a light lotion and hate waiting for lotion to dry, this might be ideal.)

UPDATE: FYI Target's site originally listed this item as:

  • NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion -13.5oz

They've since updated the description to reflect that it is sample sized, but many people bought the box with the incorrect sizing listed. Several MSA readers have shared that Target refunded them partially, but the refunds haven't been consistent.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time Target has had these issues, so in general, I would advise making your purchase decision based on the product picture, not the description. 🙁

Verdict: This box has a value of about $16. I think that's good for a $7 beauty box. Out of the two beauty boxes this month, this one is my favorite. Even though some of the values are small on products, in general this box feels more substantial to me.

I just got an email saying that you can purchase anything full-size from the two September boxes at 15% off, with promo code “SEPTEMBERBOX”.

This box and all of its misrepresented sizes was pretty lame, but the coupon not working is the icing on the cake. Target chat is not making me happy.

JuJu

My coupon didn’t work online either, but did work at a Target store.

Why even bother? I gave up Target boxes some time ago and I’m happy to not stress over these any more. For me, the Walmart box is a far better deal.

I don’t have a problem worth mentioning for all of the Target boxes. Most have useful items in travel sizes which I really like. For $7 or $10, there’s nothing so bad as to complain about. If they screw up on the sizes they post now and then, so what. I expect them all to be a trial size and when we get a cool full sized item great, I’m happy. Too many more important things in life to worry about a few lost ounces/ And really, the remarks are getting rude lately. Ya don’t attack a person personally for their opinion or misinformation or whatever. Just mind your own biz and stick to your own thoughts. Leave others alone and be polite. Geez. Even I had to learn to work on that. Now, I comment without unnecessary criticism and stuff. I just want to be a better person, not a bitter person. Noone likes those sort of peeps, lol

It’s not easy to hop off the customer service merry-go-round of nonsense, I’m well aware. However, I *try* to be mindful that I am a willing participant once it starts to make me physically ill on top of the loss of time. Time is money – just food for thought.

I’m sorry. But if I were the one writing this review for Target, I would be pointing out the discrepancies on the sizes of SO many products! But I guess if you’re getting them for free and getting paid to review them, that’s not a concern?

Liz Cadman

Hi Dawna,

Sorry for forgetting to call out the size discrepancy issue with Nivea. I’ve updated the post to call out the issue.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

Says at the beginning she paid for this box.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

Thank you for trying to correct me. Next time you decide to correct someone, please make sure that you are in fact 100% correct and the person you are trying to correct is 100% completely wrong. It clearly says,”My Subscription Addiction paid for this box.”

Tara

They finally fixed all the sizes. They also removed my negative review…hmmm…

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

I just checked this – I am only seeing the Nivea size updated?..
The rest are the same as when the box first went on sale.

Reply ButtonReply

Loba

I ordered both of the Target boxes thus month. While I was more excited for the products in the other boxes I knew this box would be a win for me because of the travel sized* Sensodyne and Nivea products. I use both of those regularly and appreciated getting a travel friendly size.

I was surprised that Liz didn’t find the Nivea moisturizing. I have really dry legs and arms (during Winter they used to get super irritated) and this is my favorite moisturizer. It keeps my skin from getting irritated yet isn’t so heavy that it is difficult or uncomfortable to put on clothes after I shower. I love this stuff.

*After reading the comments I saw the discrepancy issue Target had with the advertised sizes versus the actual offered sizes. I personally didn’t notice the size discrepancy (maybe because I am super familiar with most of the products offered so I could tell these were small sizes) but I agree that Target needs to get on this quick. Just look at Honest Co., which I actually love and subscribe to, they now are going to have to pay out a lot of money over misleading terminology. I hope whomever is connected to these boxes ensures that the correct sizing info goes out.

To the previous poster who has had these boxes lost at the post office. I recently had some lost packages and dealing with it was a nightmare. Add to that now a lot of places shipping UPS and FedEx use USPS for the final leg and now my expected delivery dates are never accurate because they sit at the post office for an extra day or two (or three in my latest case) before they deliver them. Madness!

Ok, obviously, I’m not the only one that is not happy with target over this box. Chatting online with them IS NOT GOING TO HELP YOU. YOU NEED TO CALL THEM!!! 1-800-591-3869

I got refunded on both of my boxes. Of course I took a screen shot of everything in the description for both boxes here is what was wrong. The moisture box had a 1oz leave in conditioner instead of the 2oz listed everything else was fine the other box shorted .3 oz on both the shampoo and conditioner 1ml on the garnier moisture bomb 1.2oz shorted on the toothpaste and a whopping 9.8 oz from the nivea. For a grand total of 12.7 oz of product missing between the 2. Thats a big deal. One typo maybe. It gets pointed out and a mass email gets sent out to everyone who ordered saying we will gladly cancel your order if you wish sorry for the misunderstanding but this seems calculated. They even had a retail value on it of like 35 dollars which this clearly wasn’t given the size of the samples. The sad thing is it was still a good box and still totally worth the cost but you cannot advertise one thing and provide another.

You guys were lucky – I just called and they said their new instructions are not to compensate.

Dawn

Exactly. I’m more than a little put off by Targets response to this. My 1st call, he basically called me a liar and asked if I was reading it wrong. The tone of his voice said it all. That was in my review too but it’s gone now. I took almost 2 hours to cool off after hanging up on that idiot. When I called back, I stated that I need to give my order # 1st before I tell you why I’m calling. She took a deep breath & a long, loud sigh. Really?! There were already notes,”Oh, I see you ‘think’ the sizes are not good enough for you?” “NO. Not at all what I said, look up the box and the sizes listed…………….. Also, the lid on the simply product was not on & the seal broken so it leaked everywhere. I would not mind so much but I did not purchase this for me. Most of it is going in a gift basket for a 1st time expectant mother & I can’t give her damaged crap or 1/2 empty bottles. I don’t want a refund, I want a replacement. If you can’t do that, transfer me to your boss.” I don’t get it… It’s their bad! But they gave some refunds, some partial refunds & others have to return the box before they’ll do anything???? Nope. Not doing it. I also noticed that they corrected the size of the Nivea 1st then a day or 2 later, they corrected something else. Idk if all the sizes have been corrected yet or not. The Walmart box is “free” & we pay $5 for the shipping. That’s because everything in the box is free to them. Same with target. Those items are promotional and provided to target for the boxes. There’s no way the shipping is $7. The last baby box had a 10 oz bottle of laundry detergent in it. It would’ve cost me $3.78 to ship it back to them. So, they’re making money selling free stuff anyway. I know $7 doesn’t mean much to some people but it’s my money and the whole principle of the matter. Since they are sending a replacement (and taking their sweet time about it) I can write a new review.

Cynthia Lowry

What I just read on the site said 2.7 oz on the lotion and in the picture it is pretty obvious that it’s small it’s the same size as the masscara in the picture.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

They finally changed just that. However, when it went on sale, it was advertised as being 13.5 oz. It was still listed at that until yesterday. There were only 2 items that the sizes were listed correctly, the Simply product & the mascara. Now they have the Nivea listed right but the rest are still listed wrong.

Reply ButtonReply

Tierni

I’m not sure why so many are upset about this box. Yes, it says 13.5 oz, but just a look at the picture shows it couldn’t possibly be a full size. Anyway, I love the box and am happy with it. For the price, it is a great value and so much better than some of the previous ones. Of course, we all have our favorites, and what works for one person, may not work for another. Of the two offered this time, this is the one I was excited to order. Yes, last month, or was it the previous one with the Frizz Ease deal, there was some disappointment with the size. The picture shows a tube, and I received a foil packet. Disappointing, but not a deal breaker. I’m just glad Target does this. It’s a great way to try new products and I love trying different mascaras. It is more exciting than combing through the trial bins and much more affordable, especially with a coupon to use for other purchases. I hope Target doesn’t decide it’s not worth the effort to continue. I look forward to seeing what is offered each month!

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

It’s the principle of the matter. They listed most of the products sizes wrong. They did finally change the size of the Nivea on their website but not the rest. The toothpaste is less than 1/2 the size indicated. If they could fit a 10 oz bottle of laundry detergent in their last baby box??? It’s false advertising. Plain and simple. It may only be $7.00 + tax but that’s my money and regardless of what it is, I expect to get what it says. If you ordered and paid for a large pizza but got a small, are you fine with that? What if you ordered a coffee table from Target online and it turns out to be half the size it was listed on their website, are you going to be fine with that? I’m not trying to be nasty to you personally. I have the right to feel how I feel and you have the right to feel the way you do. I used to love the Target beauty box and I agree with you. I hope they don’t stop doing the box either. But they certainly do need to fix some things.

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

I agree with all of this. The fact that 6 items were incorrect size size is a big deal. $7 or not. I will be contacting them tomorrow by chat. And it’s not the first time I’ve had to contact them. I’ve gotten the expired coupons and missing items.

Tara

I’m relieved to see that I’m not the only one upset about this box. There was even someone that live chatted with a rep before buying the box to confirm that the lotion size listed was indeed the size they were going to send. The rep confirmed that the sizes listed were the sizes they were sending…I say we call a boycott on target beauty boxes!

Reply ButtonReply

Ann

I am just floored by how Target is plagued by these issues. They’ve had so many mistakes with these boxes(loved it when they sent out expired coupons one month) and sooooooo many complaints from people- who is running this part of Target? It’s just a constant stream of mistakes and you think someone would get a handle on it, but no. There should be some idiot along the way that says, “We don’t make this thing go live with mistakes or misleading info.” Most companies would see this as a liability due to repeatedly using false advertising tactics. I have not received my box yet, but I’m pretty much done with these beauty boxes. How cheap is a $7 beauty box if I have to spend time dealing with customer service every other box? The coupons rarely(I’ve only ever had one work) work and that’s even more time dealing with CS. JFC. How hard is it to put accurate script up on your site? This should be a valuable marketing tactic for Target AND their suppliers products. It should be a slam dunk.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

Not only is it false advertising but then they are not being consistent with how they are handling complaints. Why is it that I am getting sent a replacement box, others are getting full refunds, others $3 refund, others have to return it and deal with it from there??? That is why I decided to call. My 1st call did not go well. During my second call, I asked him nicely to stop interrupting me then asked him to ask his supervisor if they understand what false advertising is and that it is still being falsely advertised. Here’s the # 1-800-591-3869

I can’t even order Target boxes anymore. I don’t receive them! I’ve only received one out of the three I have ordered. The boxes make it to the Corpus Christi main post office (per the tracking number), but never make it out of there, atleast not in the correct hands. When we put in complaints to the post office nothing happens. Tired of throwing money away so somebody can steal my stuff. Miss you Target boxes 💔😓💔

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

I’ve never complained to Target but it was the principle – it states 13.5 oz and it wasn’t. I only bought it for that. I also didn’t appreciate that their customer service chat wasn’t consistent. Different resolutions from different reps.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

After they put me on with another chat person – after about 15 minutes – she said she would refund me 3.00.

Reply ButtonReply

toomuchstuff

I went on chat and got a $4 refund – seems strange they wouldn’t refund the full $7 but I didn’t argue since I got to keep the items.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

i was told in chat I had to return it and then they would refund me

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

I got the full $7 refunded, and I don’t have to return the box. I told CS I was upset that 5 of the 8 items were smaller than advertised and I wanted a refund, but it was going to be a huge hassle to load my toddler into the car and drive all the way across town to return the box (which is the total truth). If a future Target box looks promising, I think I’d be willing to order it again, but now I know to expect smaller sizes than advertised. I was particularly upset because for me, the value was the large size of the Nivea, and I chatted with CS before I ordered the box and was assured they’d send whatever size was listed and not what was pictured.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

I did not have to return mine. Call 1-800-591-3869 Just be stern but polite. It was falsely advertised and most people are getting full refunds or replacements without having to return the box. If that doesn’t work, tell them you have no problem taking it to your bank .& the BBB.

Reply ButtonReply

Shannon

I asked their CS about the advertised sizes vs sizes I received via chat and was given a 100% refund pretty quickly and easily.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

What was the name of your chat person? I had Arlene and Dawn – neither would do anything.

Reply ButtonReply

Shannon

I don’t remember, it was on Friday I think. I’m sorry you’re having such difficulty with it!!

Laura

They won’t do it. The first person I think became irritated and just put on a different chat person.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

They won’t refund me. She said I have to return and then follow up on processing a return.

Reply ButtonReply

AnnieB512

I love that you can see what you’re getting before you choose to buy it. If you think about the low $7 price, no one should complain about the sizes being off. The mascara alone covers the cost of the box. These boxes are always so much better than the expensive ones that run $50 and include $35 worth of product.

Reply ButtonReply

Stefanie

“No one should complain about sizes” !?! Are you kidding me? They FALSELY advertised the sizes of 5 out of the 8 items in the box. As another poster said not only is it Illegal, its shady AF. I dont care if i paid 5 $ or 50$ , you can’t do that. Target was wrong. Period.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

Exactly. This is so ridiculous! It’s almost laughable at this point. They did correct the size of the Nivea on their website. Then they corrected them all. Then they changed a couple again. They had the Garnier @ 7ml, it’s 6ml and the other day, it said that. When I looked last night, it said 2ml. The sensodyne toothpaste listed @ 2.0 oz is 0.8 oz. Again, it was corrected the other day but it was back to 2.0 oz last night. What?! LOL! Who’s in charge of this? At this point, it has to be costing them…

JuJu

I am not unhappy with this box, but to be fair, the value of it is not even half of $35.
Which expensive $50 subscription is it better than?

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

Sorry you’re entitled to your opinion but what they did was false advertisement which is 100% illegal. I rarely complain about my subs, and I’m subscribed to several, including some higher value ones. I wouldn’t have bought it if it was advertised correctly since I can’t use cheap mascara, take that $8 value away and the products I did get barely cover the cost of the box.

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

I just went to double check and this box is still available and still has the stated value of $35 and incorrect sizes are still listed. I do not understand how they think this is ok. This is the type of things that they will get a class action lawsuit filed against them.

Reply ButtonReply

Annie S.

I think that the sizes have been corrected now, reflecting the true sizes.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

They have only corrected the size of the Nivea. The others are still incorrect.

Carrie

Ah, this was the box I received. When I went online to order I wasn’t offered a choice of boxes (or I didn’t see the option to choose) so I’m happy to have received this one. The value of the contents with the $3 coupon definitely exceeds the cost and all the items except the conditioner are useful to me.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

If you search the Target site for “beauty box” two results come up.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

I would not bother with emailing them! They still have not responded to any of mine. Call 1-800-591-3869 It took me calling twice but it’s not just the Nivea that’s off @ 2.7 oz but advertised @ 13.5, sensodyne 0.8 oz advertised @ 2 oz, both Acure advertised @ 1 oz each advertised @ 1.3 oz, Garnier @ 6ml advertised @ 7ml. The only things that are the actual advertised sizes are the the mascara & Simply cleansing water. Not sure if I count the 2 cotton rounds… Be careful opening this box. There is a seal on the simply cleansing water but mine, the cap was not on all the way, neither was the seal. So it leaked all over everything. Everything has red stains from the red, wet tissue paper. It’s not that I can’t go ahead & use them but I didn’t buy it for me. Since it’s still available, I requested a new box sent out.
