Benevolent Beauty Box
4.2 overall rating
16 Ratings | 2 Reviews

Benevolent Beauty Box is a cruelty-free beauty subscription. They send cosmetics, skin care, hair care, and beauty tools each month. When you sign up, you provide some personalization preferences, such as your hair and eye color and whether you prefer both or neutral colors, etc. Benevolent Beauty offers a VIP monthly box and a Mini monthly box.

This is a review of the Monthly VIP box ($29.95 a month). For your reference, my color preference is neutral/light.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Every box includes a folded info card.

The card provides details about each item and the retail values. I appreciate that they also use a mark to indicate every item that is vegan.

Bellapierre Full Coverage Foundation Stick - Medium - Value $30

Subscribers will receive either the "Light", "Medium", "Dark", or "Deep"’ shade.

This is a medium-to-full coverage stick foundation. At first, I thought it would be too dark for my skin, but it actually turned out to be perfectly matched. It blended out easily with a flat top brush, and I didn’t have to use concealer for my under-eye areas at all. It lasted a really long time on my face, too.

The Preserve Company Body Scrub - Benevolent Apple Grenade - Value $20.00

Did I ever tell you that I love body scrubs? Especially the ones that leave my bathroom smelling like heaven! This sugar body scrub has a sweet/fruity scent, which I LOVE, and it left my skin soft and hydrated as well. I wish the container was a little bigger though since I think I’ll use it up so fast.

They also included a 25% off coupon in the box. I’m really tempted to get their Salted Mango Body Scrub and Grapetree Hand and Body Scrub.

Krisanna Ann Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in K Thx Bye - Value $10.00

Subscribers will receive either “Goals AF,” “K Thx Bye,” “Selfie,” or “Swag.”

Mind you, this liquid lipstick is REALLY matte. Perhaps way too matte for my liking. And once it dried down, it’s transfer-proof. (You have to use oil-based cleanser to take it off.) Personally, this color is too dark for me and the formula is too dry. I may keep it to use as a lip stain since I know it will last all day, but I would hesitate to use this on its own.

Zuii Organic Flora Blush - Melon - Listed Value $23.18 ($28.95 AUD)

This blush is infused with so many natural and organic ingredients. Unfortunately, the color is almost invisible on my skin tone. There was a lot of fallout as well.

Since I can’t really see the color, it’s really hard to tell whether it’s long-lasting or not. This item is quite a miss for me.

Zuii Organic Mascara - Listed value $22.38 ($27.95 AUD)

I really want to fall in love with this mascara. It has a light floral-rose scent and gave my lashes great volume, length, and separation, yet they still looked very natural and lightweight at the same time. However, after a full day of trial, it turned me into a panda. I think my skin is probably too oily for this product.

The Verdict: The value of this box added up to $111.33, which is more than three times the cost of the box. However, the items in this box were kind of hits and misses for me. I absolutely love the stick foundation and the body scrub, but I wouldn’t use the rest of the box regularly. Overall, I still think that this box did a great job of curating cruelty-free products, and the majority of the items are vegan as well.

Jira discovered the world of subscription boxes when she first moved to New York in 2017 (subscription box is not a thing in her home country!). Thanks to MSA, she's now subscribed to almost 10 beauty and lifestyle boxes, with FabFitFun, BeautyFIX, and Clean Beauty Box as her favorites. Ps. Her boyfriend thinks that she's only subscribed to Ipsy, so please keep this a secret between us ;-)

Anything but Benevolent. I found the creator/curator of this box to be difficult (putting it mildly) to deal with. She is always right in every correspondence even when you share the previous one where she indicated something different. I cannot recommend this box unless you are willing to feel like you are talking to a wall. I also think she trolls the MSA comments and creates positive comments to counteract the not so great ones. Oh well, I predict this won’t last long.

The only problem I had with Benevolent was a problem with an eye shadow months back and she quickly sent me a new one. I don’t know if she trolls the comments, but her boxes, I find, are pretty decent. I have to skip next month’s box (December) as I’ll be out of the country, but picking it up again January. Not every box is going to be someone’s cup of tea. I actually found BoxyCharm and other sub boxes much more difficult to get an answer out of, hence I cancelled BoxyCharm after 2 months, though everyone raves and raves about it.
