The Floral Fox Art A6 Postcard – Value $2.05? (A similar item is $8.20 for 4)
This adorable postcard was designed by Amy Rose of The Floral Fox Art. I love the dramatic dark background that sets off the autumnal artwork.
MaggieMagoo Designs Toadstools and Mushrooms A6 Notebook – Value $5.51
Carole from MaggieMagoo Designs is also a featured designer for one of the projects, so it's nice to also receive this cute little notebook. It has 40 blank pages and was designed and printed in the UK.
Canton Tea Co Red Berry & Hibiscus Tea – Value $0.53 USD (buy 50 packets for $26.58 USD)
This tea had a strong berry flavor. I really like the brand and wish it were easier to find in the US.
The first project is toadstool embroidery using a design from Carole of MaggieMagoo Designs. What could be more perfect for autumn?
The illustrated instructions tell how many strands of thread to use and even remind you to keep the fabric taut in the hoop.
The fabric was printed especially for this box!
Elbesee Wooden Embroidery Hoop – Value $3.22
This beech embroidery hoop was the perfect size for the project and did a great job of holding the fabric taut.
DMC Embroidery Floss – $3.24 for 6
I love the warm tones of this embroidery floss. This kit only used a very small amount, so there's plenty left for future projects.
This is an easy project that's perfect for beginners because you can use the printed design as a guide for your stitching. Also, it uses organic shapes that don't need to be precise.
Stitching these little red dots was the hardest part, just because they were so tiny.
Once the embroidery was finished, the next step was to trim the fabric and glue it to the back of the hoop.
I'm happy with the way the finished piece turned out! I also like the contrast of the dark chocolate fabric with the pale beech wood of the hoop.
Next up are these adorable little felt owls!
The supplies include felt, stuffing, thread, a pinback and glass beads for eyes. It also used some of the embroidery thread from the first project. The felt is very high quality; it's not cheap craft felt.
The first step was to cut out all the pieces. Although the project shows two owls, there were enough supplies to make three!
Next, I sewed on the eyes and did a little embroidery for the beaks and feathers. They're cute already! This is another easy project that's hard to mess up.
The two pieces get sewn together with a blanket stitch.
The wings go on last. I turned one owl into a brooch using the included pinback.
Although it wasn't in the instructions, I liked the example picture of the owls on a twig, so I sewed them to a twig from my lawn.
Here's how I have them displayed, lightly affixed to a wooden coaster that I happened to have from another project. I think they're adorable – just look at that sleeping one!
Verdict: This is only my second box and it's already one of the subscriptions I look forward to the most. Jo pays so much attention to every detail – every item is perfectly in season, the quality of supplies is excellent, the directions are clear and the projects are nearly foolproof. The non-craft items (notebook, postcard, tea) have a value around $8, meaning that the two projects work out to around $12 each.
The autumn box is still available as a preorder. If this box suits your style, give it a try because it's even nicer in person.
