Driftaway Coffee is a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly coffee subscription that delivers new and different coffees based on your tasting feedback.

Driftaway Coffee

Every subscription begins with a “tasting kit,” which is what we’ll be reviewing today ($16.00). Unlike the standard subscription boxes, which contain just one type of coffee, this box contains four bags of delicious coffee, at two ounces each. After you receive this kit (which counts as your first month of the service), you'll start receiving just one coffee per box and be charged the full subscription cost.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Driftaway Coffee includes a few note cards in your first shipment. The cards noted above describe how to rate the coffees in your sampler kit after you’ve tried them all.

These cards note how to brew “the perfect cup” along with some information on the company.

Let’s take a look at what I received in my tasting kit!

Driftaway Coffee

Nicaragua Grupo Cafetos De Segovia

This coffee is noted as “Bold” with peanut and cocoa flavors - It's a browner bean than I normally see but once brewed, it's very dark, which matches the flavor profile.

Each roast also comes with information in the form of a postcard giving backstory about the roaster and that specific blend. I appreciate that they do this; it's nice to read about the blend while I'm sipping on my morning cup of joe.

I like this blend - The cocoa flavor really comes through and overall this is a very smooth cup of coffee, which is something I look for in my perfect cup.

Honduras Rojer Domingues Finca San Francisco

This coffee’s flavor notes are sweet and nutty and is under the "Classic" profile. I appreciate lighter roasts such as this, too, and once brewed, the sweetness really pulls through, which is something I've never had in a coffee before!

Driftaway Coffee

Overall, I really like this one! I would be hesitant to buy something with these flavor notes regularly at a store, so I appreciate these tasting kits because they give me the chance to try different types of blends that I wouldn't normally try!

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Sede Konga

This blend’s profile is under “Fruity”, that is described to have citrus, peach, and apricot flavor notes. I've had very few fruit-like cups of coffee before, so I was pretty excited to try this one out! The blend, once brewed, was light just like the bean and overall very tasty; the citrus really pulls through making this a unique cup of coffee - This one is a definite winner for me and I want more!

Costa Rica Aguilera Brother Finca Angelina

This blend’s profile is "Balanced" and has notes of caramel, chocolate, and honey. The blend is very smooth and when brewed, the chocolate and caramel really come through, making this a very soothing cup of coffee and probably my favorite in the whole bunch!

Driftaway Coffee

This is probably the most typical blend that I would normally buy at the market, but just a little more special with all of the flavor notes. Another winner, I really like this one and highly recommend!

Verdict: This was my second experience with Driftaway Coffee and I am continued to be impressed! All blends were very fresh and each tastier than the next! I appreciate that they send so many different blends, letting you experience different kinds of coffee's than you'd normally buy.

The price of the sampler kit ($8 + free shipping) is a great way to test out and see what kind of blends you enjoy and is a very fair price. The full priced shipments can get a little on the pricier side, but if you ration them out to the bi-weekly or monthly shipments; this would be a great “treat yourself” cup!

Did the subscription price for the test kit go up? I wanted to order but it’s going for 16 in my cart.

Nice, detailed review. Can you pick the roast of coffee they send? Like medium, bold…etc…
