Now on to the items!
Hellenic Harvest Pitted Kalamata Olives, 16 oz - Value $6.95
As far as Kalamata olives go, these are great! They taste just as you’d expect and are a great refrigerator staple to toss on top of salads or couple with a cheese and charcuterie board.
ΠΙΠΕΡΙΑ ΚΟΚΚΙΝΗ ΨΗΤΗ Roasted Red Peppers, 500ml
These sweet Florina variety peppers are harvested in the Fall and roasted over an open flame to achieve a sweet and slightly smoky flavor. The peppers come intact and the recipe card suggests stuffing them with cheese and serving them as part of a Mediterranean appetizer platter. For something packaged in a jar, these peppers were so fresh and flavorful and vibrant in color. I loved them!
ILIADA Stuffed Vine Leaves in Olive Oil, 280g
These tender grapevine leaves are hand rolled and stuffed with rice, onion, mint, and dill.
As with the roasted red peppers, these dolmas taste garden-fresh! I’m so impressed with how unprocessed and natural these packaged foods taste.
Escape Giftbox Greek Spice Blend
This spice blend was amazing! Escape Giftbox’s own proprietary blend of traditionally dried Greek spices includes oregano, mint, thyme, basil, marjoram, dehydrated onion, and dehydrated garlic. All of the spices were perfectly balanced and it completely elevated the overall flavor of the final recipe.
Misoko Risoni Large Orzo Pasta, 500g - Value $3.75
Orzo is the main ingredient in this month’s included recipe, and I found this brand to be great.
Orino Soft Nougat Peanut Bar with Honey, 70g - Value $1.89
Nougat isn’t really my thing- it’s a bit too sickly sweet for my taste, but I loved the inclusion of the crispy wafers in this variation. The consistency was as you’d expect- soft, sticky, and chewy, with added texture from the peanuts and crispy wafers.
Along with the different ingredients, you’ll receive step-by-step instructions on how to create a delicious recipe using the ingredients in your box. This month’s recipe was for Greek Orzo Salad. In addition to the orzo, roasted red peppers, Kalamata olives, and Greek spice blend included in the box, the recipe calls for a few simple ingredients like olive oil, fresh lemon juice, red wine vinegar, and red onion. I also included chopped cucumber and spinach because I had them on hand, but this recipe would be great with any combination of ingredients you have at home.
Verdict: I really enjoyed the authenticity and cohesiveness of this month’s Escape Giftbox. Each item in the box was a unique and a well-catered addition to the overall theme. For $35 a month (including free shipping), I received 6 items from Greece, making each worth $5.83. Prices were not available online for everything but that value is fair for the prices I could find (and even better when using the MSA50 50% off coupon).
