Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized beauty products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think Ipsy is perfect for anyone who likes to discover and try new beauty items before committing to full-sized products!

(FYI – Just like BirchboxIpsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Ipsy’s theme for this month is ‘Like A Boss’. On the back of the card, they featured Charlotte Cho, the co-founder of Soko Glam.

This month’s makeup bag is a simple black clutch with golden zipper, with a faux pyramid stud texture, perfect for everyday.

Now, onto the items!

Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush - Value $12

I always love receiving brushes from Ipsy because this item alone already covered the price of the box! This soft brush did a great job blending my eyeshadow (even though I’m far from being an expert) - and a perfect size to contour my nose, too.

Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey - Value $4?

(Like Liz said, this blush duo is only available in full size when paired with a Kabuki brush, so to estimate value, I’m cutting the value in half. Assuming the full-size blush is $9, and the brush is $9.)

Even though this product is a little less than half of the full-size version, it’s still a great size sample. The lighter side is a champagne color with golden undertone and the slightly darker color is a peachy-rose gold color. Both colors are shimmery and didn’t really show up on my skin as a blush, so I used them as a highlighter instead. The texture was soft and buttery, and it gave a really nice glow on my skin.

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer Radiance - 0.25oz Value $9.75

This primer is going to be perfect for someone who already has a great skin and only need a subtle glow without any coverage (aka - not for me). It gave a beautiful glow, but didn’t help blurring out my pores or smoothen my skin texture, plus when I applied my foundation, the glow effect is gone anyway.

NEOGEN Dermalogy White Truffle Serum in Oil Drop - 15ml Value $10.50 (Full Size 50ml, $35)

I love this serum in oil for my morning routine because it’s lightweight, absorbed really fast, and leave zero oily/stickiness on my skin. It gave my skin instant hydration and glow, plus it doesn’t have any perfume-like scent, so I think it’ll work for sensitive skin, too.

Pretty Woman Nail Polish in Girl Boss - Value $7.99

The brand is vegan and cruelty-free, and I love this pale lavender shade! It applied smoothly and you get full coverage in 2 coats. It lasted me about 5 days without chipping too.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $44, which is on the lower side of Ipsy. On top of that, there aren’t many items that I fell in love with, so this is just an okay month for me. I will still use up most of the samples, though.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you’ll get next month’s box as your first box. (And Ipsy is often in waitlist mode, so sign up asap if you are interested.)

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush: $2.71
  • Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey: $0.90
  • Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer Radiance: $2.20
  • NEOGEN Dermalogy White Truffle Serum in Oil Drop: $2.37
  • Pretty Woman Nail Polish in Girl Boss: $1.81
  • Bag – Not counted toward value

Good to know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

I got the exact same items in my bag. I’m always happy to get a brush even though I’m starting to have dare I say too many (shhh, I didn’t mean to say that out loud.)

Not a regular user of nail polish but I LOVE ❤️ this color. It lasted almost 2 weeks before I had to take it off.

I requested the truffle oil & other than it being difficult to get out of the bottle I’m loving it too.

Agree that the Pixi blush is too shimmery but I’m liking it as a highlighter. Only problem is Ipsy sends me highlighter way too often.

I normally use tinted moisturizer instead of foundation & I love ❤️ the previous product Ipsy sent me from Smashbox so yeah I’m happy with the primer.

Pretty happy with September’s bag.

That nail color is gorgeous! The serum looks great and love the bag. Makes me so tempted to resub… but I have so many products and I’m trying to save money !

I have this exact same bag and feel the exact same way. It’s okay. I actually ended up loving the blush, serum, and smashbox primer. I don’t ever do my nails so I have no use for the nail polish, and I already own the exact same luxie brush. I still love my glambag subscription and hope for a better outcome next month!

I would have adored that nail polish. It’s weird, but polish is the one item I buy multiples of weekly and the one item for which I would truly love to sample a variety of brands, yet it seems to be the one item ipsy just doesn’t want to send me. I unchecked every other item on the beauty quiz, but no luck. I even wrote to support and specifically requested it. Still nothing.

One thing that worked for me is when I review the items and stated that I really like receiving such and such category! I hope it’ll work for you too 🙂

Bag twins! The truffle oil was my pick but I ended up really liking all the other items too.
I don’t have perfect skin, but the smashbox primer works nice for “natural” glow and the blush was very natural looking on me too, so it all worked together for a “no makeup” look, lol.

I wish I’d gotten this polish instead of the Deception gray color that I got, I just can’t bring myself to put it on my nails ugh 🙄

I got exact same bag and was very happy with it. Was debating if I should swap the polish or use it, but after your review, i will keep it. Very happy with the bag.

I would be thrilled if I got everything in your bag except for the nail polish (which I opted out of). I love Smashbox primer but have not tried the radiance version and that truffle serum sounds intriguing!

I got the smashbox primer in my bag – was excited to try it. The coverage wasn’t quite as good as the typical smashbox primer, but still nice. It gives a subtle glow that mostly disappears under normal foundation, but is lovely under mineral foundation.

Oooh……I hope it get it. I just happen to wear mineral foundation. 🙂
