The box came with an information card detailing the items for October. This month's theme is "Witching Hour."
Black Cat Eyeliner Stencil – Listed Value $5
I am not very imaginative with my eyeliner but this offers a lot of possibilities – nearly every edge of the cat will work for a different kind of eyeliner look. My efforts thus far are too embarrassing to show on the internet but maybe with practice, I will get better.
Witches Brew Solid Perfume – Listed Value $10
This has patchouli, cinnamon, and cedarwood, and it is just a really nice fall scent that appeals to me a whole lot. This is a subtle scent; you won’t knock out the other people in an elevator with you. It seems like every time Orglamix sends a solid perfume, I am really happy with it.
Dark as Sin Lip Stain – Listed Value $16
This color is right up my alley and is definitely a lip color for me (some Orglamix products could go either way – lip or cheek stain – but I am so pale, this is definitely only for the lips). You can make it less intense depending on how much you apply. I found this worked a little better with a brush (but then, I kind of don’t like applying lip products with my finger).
Bitchcraft Eyeliner – Listed Value $16
This is what I practiced using the cat stencil with and you can definitely make it look darker than the swatch below with the help of an appropriate brush. I am used to the even application of a pencil so I am still getting the hang of gel/pot type eyeliners. If you have oily eyelids like I do, I’d definitely recommend a primer as well. But this is perfectly paired with the cat stencil. I would say eyeliners are a rarity with this subscription; this is only the second one I can remember getting in a long period of reviewing this box.
Hex Natural Eyeshadow – Listed Value $12.50
You’ll usually get at least one loose powder eyeshadow with Orglamix and it is almost always a custom shade. I have come to appreciate these more as I have really made an attempt to use them this year. This has a bit of sparkle but it’s not a glitter bomb. If it is too dark for you (I am really, really conservative with eyeshadow and tend to use only light shades), you can blend with a bit of a lighter color for a really pretty gray that is wearable even on pale skin tones.
Toil + Trouble Black Lava Sea Salt Scrub – Listed Value $15
How did they know I just ran out of scrub? I use SO MUCH body scrub, I am constantly buying it. This is a salt scrub, so be careful if you’ve just shaved anywhere (or it can sting a bit), but I think they got the oil/salt ratio just right (I prefer scrubs that are low on oil). This is probably my favorite kind of bath/body item to receive in subscription boxes.
Here are swatches of the lip stain, the eyeliner, and the eyeshadow. (These were done with fingers because my brushes were all dirty.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of $74.50 for the October Orglamix subscription box. These products were not in their shop, but the prices from the information card are consistent with similar items in the shop (for instance, all the loose eyeshadows go for about the same amount). Lately, there has really been a skincare focus with Orglamix and they’ve been due for some color cosmetics (in my opinion), so I definitely enjoyed the box contents this month. Now I just have to practice my non-pencil eyeliner skills.
What do you think of the October 2017 Orglamix box?
