Kellie’s Baking Company Cookies (4 count) – Estimated Value $12
It is somewhat difficult to assign a value here because although there are a lot of options available on the maker’s site, they vary sort of widely in terms of price. An *average* per cookie is about $3, based on the different options available, so that’s what I’ve used here.
These are slightly crumbly (but good) shortbread-style cookies. I think this company’s thing is printing photos onto white frosting. (They advertise corporate gifts and custom event favors.) I was really in the mood for something like this after seeing a lot of frosted Halloween dog biscuits in dog subscription boxes so these came at the right time.
Dallas Caramel Company Fall Mix (7 assorted flavors) – Estimated Value $7.50
The going rate for a half pound of caramels on this website is $15, though this exact mix isn’t available. This was about four ounces worth (I weighed them on my kitchen scale). These were super soft and non-sticky and the flavors were all definitely appropriate for fall. I’d subscribe to their Caramel of the Month club but I don’t want to get anything with bacon or marshmallow in it.
Spaulding’s Specialty Spices Cinnamon Sugar (1.4 oz) – Estimated Value $1.31 (buy 16 oz for $15)
This smells so good. I am not much of a “sugar in your tea” kind of person but I do find that I need to sweeten Crio Bru and this is perfect for that. The cinnamon and chocolate of Crio Bru go really well together.
Spaulding’s Specialty Spices Pumpkin Spice Sugar (1.4 oz) – Value $1.31 (buy 16 oz for $15)
This is another one that works great for Crio Bru (and also smells wonderful). This is a seasonal item and is not always available. I couldn’t find sample packets of these jars for sale, only the full-size jars (which seem quite reasonably-priced to me for large amounts of product). The makers blend these at the time of your order so they are super fresh.
Benjamin Soap Co. Green Tea + Mint Bath Salts (1.7 oz) – Retail Value $6
I think this is the first time we have received a bath product from Tea Box Express (at least since I’ve been reviewing it). It makes perfect sense that it would be a tea-scented product! I haven’t had a chance to take a bath since I received this box but am planning to this weekend (since, after my upcoming surgery, I won’t be able to for a long while). I did open this and smell it and it smells lovely. It has real matcha in it as well as sea salt, Epsom salts, and pink Himalayan salt.
Toothless Tiger Chai from White Cloud World Teas (2 oz) – Value $6.95
This is a caffeine-free rooibos blend (hence the “toothless tiger” name). But the chai spices (e.g., cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, star anise, fennel, cloves) all work really well with rooibos, which is kind of naturally sweet. This is recommended with steamed milk though I prefer my teas to be calorie free so I brewed it with water and it was pretty good. This one is perfect for fall and winter evenings.
Here it is, loose.
And here it is, brewed. I suffered catastrophic tea strainer failure here so I had to re-strain it, but that is my own fault for not being careful. I will probably use a disposable tea bag next time, just to be safe!
Verdict: I calculated a value of $35.07 for the October Tea Box Express. That’s above the cost of the box plus shipping and I was really happy with the items this month. (Alternatively, you are paying about $6.30 per item, if you count the sugar blends together as one item.) This box really has me in the mood for fall, which is finally here in Georgia. Also, it gave me a sugar fix, which is always appreciated!
