The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from the online shop, Appraising Pages.

Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only—no actual books involved. Recently, though, they changed up their game and added several subscription varieties to choose from, including one that does have a book inside!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is of the Women's Sized box that includes a t-shirt for $29.99 a month.

Ready Player One Quote Tea Towel

This is listed as a tea towel on the info card, but it's actually the square shape and smaller size of a handkerchief. I feel like I'd use it for that rather than a towel. (It'd just be too small!) It's on the thin side, but the navy ink looks really handsome against the white, cottony weave.

Hunger Games Quote Notebook

I can never seem to have enough notebooks. I'm a habitual list-maker, so I'm always reaching for notebooks and scraps of paper through the day. This notebook is medium-sized, so it's about the size of a normal paperback book. It's ruled and spiralbound, so it's really convenient to spin open and lay flat on my desk. The cover has the song from Hunger Games on it—it's a little eerie to see on my desk each day, but hey, it's a dystopian box!

Girl on Fire Choker Necklace

More Hunger Games goodies! This choker has a really cool arrow pendant at its center. I've been eager to play around with the choker trend, and I feel like this is a very cool design. I like the idea of a choker with a pendant in the middle, rather than just a plain band or chain. I also like that there's a bit of extender chain on it. Just because it's called a choker doesn't mean it literally has to choke you!

1984 Quote Print

Ugh, 1984 has haunted me ever since I first read it back in high school. It is pretty much the pinnacle of dystopian stories, wherein people's minds are turned against them and their loved ones, too. Heavy stuff. Because of that, I'm not sure if there's a good place for me to display this print (which is really just a thin, matte card with the quote print on the front) that wouldn't totally bum me out upon seeing it! Haha. It also definitely needs a frame, unless I just wanted to tack it to my corkboard.

Eye Mask by AudioBooks

This mask is essentially a promotional item for an audiobooks company. There's a coupon for a book they offer on the package. The mask can be frozen or heated up in the microwave to either refresh or relax your eyes. There are little beads suspended in some kind of fluid in the mask, which feels extra relaxing, and you can either rest the mask over your eyes or secure it there with the Velcro-shut elastic bands.

The Darkest Minds T-Shirt

This exclusive tee has a great quote ("Lets carpe the hell out of this diem") and a really comfy feel. It's a "women's" cut shirt, which means it's a bit more body-hugging and the sleeves are shorter. I love the gold on gray!

The Verdict: This subscription is really fun, and I imagine would make an awesome gift for a teen or young reader, too. The Bookish Box has been moving towards exclusive products, and apart from the eye mask, which was so obviously just a promotional product, and the print, which was just so simple that it didn't feel as special as I'd hoped, I thought everything was nice quality and fit the theme in fun ways.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order now to nab the November box!

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $34.49 after shipping. The cost of tees from The Bookish Shop is $22.00, meaning the remaining five items must have a value of about $12.49, or about $2.50 each. I think that actually sounds relatively fair. I might not price the print at that level, but I'd probably expect to pay a dollar or so over $2.50 for things like the choker or the notebook. So in my opinion, the value balances out.

This one was a bit of a dud. With all the books out there about dystopian societies, they could have done so much more. The eye mask would have pissed me off. What does that have to do with the theme?
