Woman Up Box’s booklet is a glossy tri-fold. I was very impressed with how well-thought-out the booklet was made. This set the tone for the entire box. The theme for September was “Black Magic Woman.”
Each item in the box is photographed in the booklet. There is detailed information offered about each item including the retail price and in some cases websites and information about the woman artisan who created the item.
The back of the trifold showed the Woman Up Box mascot named Dolly. It also shared the charity selected this year (Dress for Success Worldwide) that will receive 10% of the Woman Up monthly profits. I think it’s wonderful that a box with a mission to lift women up and support women-run companies and female artisans also donates a percentage of their proceeds to women-focused charities. Originally, Woman Up has said they’d be changing the charities monthly, but now it appears that this is the charity for the entire year.
Woman Up Box includes a Lift Up card with ideas for lifting up girls, colleagues and even yourself. I enjoyed reading their suggestions.
Raven Pendant - Value $14.50
This raven pendant is handmade and has a diameter of an inch. It’s got a glass dome on top of the eerie raven print set in a metal tray. I will be sporting this necklace throughout October for sure.
Fortune-Telling Book of Dreams by Andrea McCloud - Value $8.14 on Amazon (retail price $9.95)
This small tome is bound in faux leather and has a cool, vintage vibe with the lettering and graphics inside. There are over 1,000 symbols you can look up to see what they mean when they appear in your dreams. Such a fun book to peruse.
Patchouli and Clovebud Soap - Value $4.00
This small bar of soap has a delicious patchouli scent. It’s made with coconut, palm and olive oils and is dotted with patchouli leaves. I just wish it had been a bit larger.
Halloween Pop-Up Card - Value $6.95
Wow! What a beautiful and intricately designed Halloween card. This one is too special to be mailed. I prefer to keep it and place it on the mantle as part of my autumn décor.
Halloween Wine Charms - $8.00
These wine charms will be perfect for our pre-trick-or-treat gathering. Each charm has black seed beads and a different creep charm.
Campbell’s Sweets Caramel Popcorn Balls – Value $2.00 (Buy 9 balls for $9.00)
I’ve never seen caramel popcorn balls in a subscription box. This was a fun fall surprise. It was fresh, crunchy and sweet!
Tin Halloween Mug – Listed Value $22.00
This black speckled tin mug is a Woman Up Box exclusive. It holds 12 ounces of your favorite drink. There is a broom-riding witch on one side and it says Witches Brew on the opposite side. This will be perfect for spiced apple cider this fall. I think the listed value seems a bit high for a tin mug based on others I’ve seen on Etsy.
Raven Tea Towel - Value $14.00
Something about this flour sack tea towel is so perfectly creepy for Halloween. It’s 100% cotton and machine washable.
Verdict: This was a great theme, though I was surprised to see Black Magic Woman as a September box instead of an October box. It felt nicely curated and was a lot of fun to unpack since there were so many items. I enjoy discovering women Etsy sellers and woman-owned businesses each month and appreciate their mission to lift women up and give back to charities like Dress for Success. The value this month came to over $79 (using the Amazon price for the book) which is well over the $49.95 monthly cost (free shipping to the US) and I’m definitely pleased with that.
