October 2017 World Sampler Review
First of all, I need to mention that Yummy Bazaar has done an overhaul with its box and info cards that I am really liking! It seems a bit more polished and I am taking note. Best news: it's still the same price!
You'll find a card with a short introduction to the featured countries this month.
The other side lists each item with a little bit about them.
You'll next see a card with a secret coupon code (we blanked ours out) to receive 10% off your next order, and a collection of some of the food they've featured in the past.
Brioche Pasquier French Brioche Chocolate Croissant (France), 1 count - Buy a bag of 6 for $4.95
This month, Yummy Bazaar has sent us a croissant from France instead of a brioche. It's not as buttery as one from a local French bakery, but it certainly does the trick! It's super chocolatey and apparently only has 180 calories.
Burt's Guinness Thick Cut Hand Cooked Potato Chips (UK), 1.5 oz. - Value $2.95
I haven't had a Guinness since I first started drinking beer about 15 years ago, but I just watched An American Werewolf in London the other night and was reminded of the "meal in a glass" that so many people enjoy. I consider myself a potato chip connoisseur and even though I can't say how closely they resemble the beer, they have a unique flavor! Lacey tried a couple as well and didn't think they necessarily tasted like beer, but something different was afoot. I took a peek at the ingredients to find barley malt extract powder and fat-reduced cocoa powder which may be the unique flavors we're tasting. Don't get me wrong, I like these! I'm now curious to drink a Guinness.
Colombina Dulce de Leche Mini (Colombia), 1.7 oz. - Buy a pack of 6 for $5.95
Since I noticed this was from Colombia, I again reached out to my friend from Bogota to see if it brought up any fond memories. His response was "Jajaja! This was in every kid's lunch box!". I asked "What? Like to dip apples in?" and he said "No! Just to eat straight up!". Holy cow. This is a little tub of thick caramel and it's super sweet! It's a great snack for this Fall season, but I can't imagine eating it alone. He also said that it goes inside Obleas, which he described as a post-supermarket treat sold right at the door on your way out. The photo he sent me looks amazing and he said it's served with blackberry preserves as well. YUM.
Yes Salted Striped Lithuanian Sunflower Seeds (Lithuania), 1.7 oz. - Value $1.95
Who doesn't like sunflower seeds? I admit, they can be a little sharp, but what's a little pain for some salty healthy seeds? These will be a great snack to keep in my desk drawer for a mid-day nosh. They have a great roasted flavor and become chewier as you eat them up. No shelling required.
Crown Choco Heim Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies (Korea), 2 small packs - Buy a 10 oz. version for $6.45
OMG YES. I love hazelnut wafers and these are just the perfect little snacks! The packaging is beautiful, but I was surprised to see they come from Korea! I would have guessed Switzerland or somewhere similar. Each of these packages has two wafers that can be broken into two sticks (sort of like a Kit Kat). They are so light and crispy and the chocolate hazelnut filling is creamy and delicious. By far, my favorite this month!
Magiya Vostoka Samsa Seasoning (Russia), 1 packet - Value $1.95
I wasn't able to use this yet, but it's a packet of seasoning used in traditional Central Asian meat pastries known as Samsa. They look like a variation of the Argentinian empanada or Indian samosa. The ingredients list things like spices and dried vegetables (coriander, cumin, chili), and salt. All you have to do is add this to any meat (or meatless) filling and stuff inside a savory pastry bread. Now I'm hungry!
Super Bombon Supercoco Coconut Lollipops (Colombia), x3 - Buy a bag of 24 for $9.47
Wait, I already chose a favorite? I take it back! If you love coconut like I do, clear your calendar and make time to order and enjoy a bag of these! I thought they would just be a caramel lollipop but there are coconut shreds in there! I tried to describe it as eating one of those healthy brands of coconut popsicles with the chunks, but it's not cold. I dunno. It's caramel-y and wonderful and chock full of delicious coconut shreds. I think I have to order more of these!!! I texted that same friend from Bogota and said: "THESE ARE DOPE!". He said they come in non-lollipop form and are kind of a joke among Colombian kids for pulling out your fillings. So, this lollipop form is actually very advanced. No fillings were harmed in this taste test.
Verdict
Yummy Bazaar World Sampler Kit has upped their game, in my opinion. I really enjoyed everything this month and even discovered some new global faves inside their newly designed box! I got ten total items in seven variations for the cost of $9.95.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. If you subscribe today, you'll receive the November box which ships between the 15-18th.
Value Breakdown: At $9.95 for this box, you are paying approximately $1 per item!
