I don’t subscribe to 5th Avenue Style because of the much- discussed shipping problems and the ” You may get this or you may get that item”. These are pet peeves of mine in a higher priced subscription box.
It’s the main reason I dropped Oui Please. Very bad impression over a year of delayed box after incomplete box, etc. You all know what I mean.
I have 2 things I want to say/ ask.
1) WHY is the shipping messed up on this high priced subscription? Are they not figuring in their shipping costs correctly? Do they lack staff to pack the boxes? Are their delays in product sourcing from box to box? ( which is a management problem that can be avoided most of the time),
For the price of10 boxes at this price point in this spoiler post, you can GO to 5th Avenue shopping with almost $5000 cash, maybe more, depending on where you are flying in from, how long you stay, where you stay, and what activities other than the planned shopping you want to do. Also, I’ve seen 5th Avenue Style boxes priced at various price points for different boxes. How is the pricing determined by 5th Avenue Style?
I used to go to NYC and shop my head off every season when I was single. I bought exactly what I wanted and picked out for myself. There’s a lot to be said for personal choice vs. 10 or so late and maybe random product- filled boxes, IMO. Is any of the merchandise in the boxes overstock or discontinued merchandise? I haven’t seen any reviews of a single box here either, so I don’t know.
2) Daum Art Glass is one of my very favorite collectibles. I have collected Daum, Baccarat, Steuben, small antique original Tiffany pieces, Waterford, Chihuly, and original works by European artists for many years.
Daum is probably my second favorite, with Chihuly being #1, but the price for a Chihuly original piece is sometimes the price of a car. ( I don’t have those pieces but can dream, right?)
Daum is made in a very special way. NO other art glass/ crystal pieces look like Daum. It is usually very feminine- appearing in the colors and designs and is beautiful.
The only thing is this: When I want BOOKENDS, I want sturdy bookends, not very precious crystal bookends.
Likewise, when I want COASTERS, I want coasters which won’t stick to my glass because of condensation, and then break when they fall to the floor accidentally.
Daum is fine art glass and I don’t understand why bookends and coasters are even being made by the company.
I am not being negative, but I do not think the choices of either item in fine quality Daum is very sensible for the buyer/ collector. Daum art glass is not as fragile as cut crystal, but it is very delicate and it will break if it falls to the floor, of course.
The Daum name brought me to this box, but the Daum items curated pushed me away because I don’t think they are actually usable, and if I want great collectible bookends, they will likely be sturdy so I can use them for light books. I can see displaying coasters, maybe, but SOMEONE is going to use your Daum coaster as an ashtray! I had it happen with a gorgeous set of crystal coasters of mine once. I threw the damaged one away, thinking I could find a match later, but I never could. The remaining single coaster is on my bedside night stand right now. 🙂
I hope it’s OK that I give my opinion, as a true lover of Daum as a collectible, not home goods which have a stated practical use. ” Vase” is about as utilitarian as fine art glass should be, IMO. I treasure my pieces.. but I do not use them, I display them in lighted cabinets.
