I don’t subscribe to 5th Avenue Style because of the much- discussed shipping problems and the ” You may get this or you may get that item”. These are pet peeves of mine in a higher priced subscription box.
It’s the main reason I dropped Oui Please. Very bad impression over a year of delayed box after incomplete box, etc. You all know what I mean.

I have 2 things I want to say/ ask.
1) WHY is the shipping messed up on this high priced subscription? Are they not figuring in their shipping costs correctly? Do they lack staff to pack the boxes? Are their delays in product sourcing from box to box? ( which is a management problem that can be avoided most of the time),

For the price of10 boxes at this price point in this spoiler post, you can GO to 5th Avenue shopping with almost $5000 cash, maybe more, depending on where you are flying in from, how long you stay, where you stay, and what activities other than the planned shopping you want to do. Also, I’ve seen 5th Avenue Style boxes priced at various price points for different boxes. How is the pricing determined by 5th Avenue Style?

I used to go to NYC and shop my head off every season when I was single. I bought exactly what I wanted and picked out for myself. There’s a lot to be said for personal choice vs. 10 or so late and maybe random product- filled boxes, IMO. Is any of the merchandise in the boxes overstock or discontinued merchandise? I haven’t seen any reviews of a single box here either, so I don’t know.

2) Daum Art Glass is one of my very favorite collectibles. I have collected Daum, Baccarat, Steuben, small antique original Tiffany pieces, Waterford, Chihuly, and original works by European artists for many years.

Daum is probably my second favorite, with Chihuly being #1, but the price for a Chihuly original piece is sometimes the price of a car. ( I don’t have those pieces but can dream, right?)
Daum is made in a very special way. NO other art glass/ crystal pieces look like Daum. It is usually very feminine- appearing in the colors and designs and is beautiful.

The only thing is this: When I want BOOKENDS, I want sturdy bookends, not very precious crystal bookends.
Likewise, when I want COASTERS, I want coasters which won’t stick to my glass because of condensation, and then break when they fall to the floor accidentally.
Daum is fine art glass and I don’t understand why bookends and coasters are even being made by the company.

I am not being negative, but I do not think the choices of either item in fine quality Daum is very sensible for the buyer/ collector. Daum art glass is not as fragile as cut crystal, but it is very delicate and it will break if it falls to the floor, of course.

The Daum name brought me to this box, but the Daum items curated pushed me away because I don’t think they are actually usable, and if I want great collectible bookends, they will likely be sturdy so I can use them for light books. I can see displaying coasters, maybe, but SOMEONE is going to use your Daum coaster as an ashtray! I had it happen with a gorgeous set of crystal coasters of mine once. I threw the damaged one away, thinking I could find a match later, but I never could. The remaining single coaster is on my bedside night stand right now. 🙂

I hope it’s OK that I give my opinion, as a true lover of Daum as a collectible, not home goods which have a stated practical use. ” Vase” is about as utilitarian as fine art glass should be, IMO. I treasure my pieces.. but I do not use them, I display them in lighted cabinets.

Liz, have you ever reviewed this box service? I’ve never actually seen any reviews of this box that I’d trust & their IG account is nothing but stock photos or regrams. I don’t want to spend money on this the box until I see trustworthy reviews.

I don’t think that CS from any box should be able to post even if it’s to answer questions. I know most probably would say different. I just feel box BUYERS should be able speak their concerns, the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly without CS replying. Does that bother anyone else…

Reply ButtonReply

Helen

I guess I kind of understand where you’re coming from esp if CS is hiding as real customers, revealing buyer specific information and/or start being argumentative. But I think it’s important to have a few large forums where all the voices can be heard.

Even the interaction for those TJmaxx comments below useful in a sense. I mean… by those posters’ logic, a Toyota Yaris is 15K why is there even a market for Porsches? 5th Ave CS explains why they believe their product is different. Just like any other marketing… you can choose to believe or not. It’s sometimes hard to find information about specific products so any addt’l is nice to me.

The 5th Avenue subscription model is kind of confusing tbh and their website isn’t the clearest either. I’m sure their CS team gets a lot of the same questions via email. Why shouldn’t they be able to address those general questions on an open forum esp on a website that is as popular as MSA? I like not having to dig for information.

That’s just my two cents. *shrug* I wouldn’t vote for a blanket ban on CS responses but it’s not my website to manage either =P.

My comments below have nothing to do with the cost comparison–it’s a concern that the company is misrepresenting the products they claim to have. I’m highly suspicious of a box that has never been reviewed on this website, and uses stock photos both here & on their social media. There is nothing about their online presence that makes me trust this company. If you love the box, that’s fantastic, and I sincerely hope you are getting the products they claim they’re selling and not some knock off that could be purchased at TJ Maxx.

Natalya

I actually wish all sub boxes had representatives responding to concerns of customers. How many of us would l9ve to hear clear response on issues from Glossybox or Boxycharm? I know I would l9ve to have cohesive response from them. And the fact that 5th Ave has someone here almist 24/7 reading through concerns of customers and responding is just an indication that they care. And on top of it, I want to believe that all feedback is taken by the company as a work to improve things.

I appreciated Jennifer responding so quickly to my skepticism yesterday. I felt as if she was just clarifying things and was very gracious despite being called troll etc. All the responses were very clear that they were from 5th avenue.

Reply ButtonReply

Nora

It does not bother me in the least, I really appreciate the interaction and having our questions answered in real time.

What bothers me is people who trash boxes and even worse, trash the people who buy the boxes.

The negativity in the comments sections is bringing the entire site down. I would like to see only people who actually buy the boxes be able to post comments. That way they are informed, intelligent comments, instead of random “this is the worst box ever”, “those items are so stupid”, “who even buys these boxes?” “omg this is a scam” statements. Those people are the real trolls. Have any of the naysayers even researched Daum glass? Or the votives? These are heirloom quality pieces, not disposable crap you buy at discount stores.

Every box I have received from 5th Avenue has been beautiful, thoughtfully curated to my personal tastes and of much higher quality than items found at TJ Maxx, and tbh, any other luxe box out there, including Luxor and BoS. Yes, their shipping is atrocious, but you know what? They own it, which is more than I can say for a lot of other subs. And if it means I will continue to receive boxes that look like a wealthy friend picked out lovely items just for me, I am fine with it.

I am buying this box and I appreciate Jennifer taking the time to come on here to answer our questions. The abuse she has been given by doing so is ridiculous. No one is telling anyone they have to buy the box, so my recommendation would be if you don’t want it and can’t say something nice, move on to the next box!

Now if 5th Avenue would just curate a beauty box, too, I would be in heaven! (Hint, hint)

Perfectly said Nora!

Natalya

Christine, I would not be able to make it sound much clearer than how you wrote it. Everything you said is totally valid and I am 100% in agreement with you, as I am sure many ladies who ordered 5th Ave are as well. As Christine, I am not related to 5th Ave in any shape or form except of being their customer by ordering few boxes.

Yes, there are imperfections and areas to improve, but in overall scheme of things, the quality of pieces, the uniqueness of content of each box is impecable.

Yes, we all have different taste and style, and not every sub box is for everyone. However, 5th Ave has its clientelle, and for the most part I want to believe this clientelle is happy. I at least am happy and that is why I keep coming back to this box again and again.

It is pricey, it is luxurious, but truly and honestly, where do you find high end unique items easily available at such a price that 5th Ave offers. Come on ladies, put things into perspective. For example, if you want unique Chanel item (and I mean unique authentic piece) you most likely will not be able to easily order it and will need to “hunt it down”, and then wait weeks and sometimes months for it to arrive. Frustrating? Hell, yes. But what a feeling of joy it is when you finally receive it and that moment of opening that beautifully packaged box!

5th Ave boxes are not your standard monthly sub beauty boxes with samples of things to try. I see 5th Ave boxes as a real treat to yourself, as an award if you want.

And it is just classless and rude to post comments accusing them of scam. I also received my Summer box months later, but even with that, once box was hear – it was an excitement. Yeap, I am also waiting for my LE Winter Box and am mentally prepared that it might very well not be here before 2017 ends. But does it make me mad to the point of dumping trash on the company? Absolutely not!

I guess, what I am trying to say is that 5th Ave is not for everyone, for sure. But if your taste and style is what 5th Ave provides in their boxes, for the price they offer, it does worth a wait.

Nora

5th Avenue’s model is very different from other subs. Once I figured it out, I dropped the cash for the membership and am so glad I did. The boxes I have received have been amazing – not only in personalization, but in quality.

Does their shipping suck? Yep! I mean like really, really bad (sorry 5th Ave. gang). Will I ever receive my Mutsears Dr. Apple bag? I am pretty sure yes, but maybe not before I am too old to lift it. Do I care? Nope! Sometimes I get a little freaked out by the delays and email them. Their response is always quick and makes enough sense to calm me down. I don’t even care if it true or not, because you know what? Their boxes rock!

The quality of the items they include far surpasses any other box I have tried, and that includes Luxor, Oui Please and BoS. High end imported leather (including Inden, which I have fallen in love with) and on trend jewelry from known and new names. I love that they are moving into the home arena. Have any of the naysayers actually researched the history of Daum glass and the value? The agate pieces are just icing on the cake, but I already have the coasters and the votive holder, and the quality far surpasses anything I have ever found at discount stores. I only wish they did a beauty box, too and I would have one stop shopping (hint, hint @Jennifer).

So to those who asks who buys this box? I buy this box, and I am all over this one!

MSA is made up of people from all walks of life, all income levels and all ages. Just because a box may not be for you does not mean it is not of value to someone else. Trying to tear down the company or the people who buy their products is the true trolling.

LoriW.

I sent a message through the 5th Ave site, and haven’t gotten a response. I received my LE Fall box 6 weeks late, which wasn’t a big deal. But, while I loved the bag that came and the Les Georgette bracelet, the 2 other items are complete throw always. I couldn’t find much on the marker of the 2 jewelry items, I’m not sure what they are made from, no information was provided. Being unhappy with half a box I spent over $200 stinks. It also makes really really nervous that I still have a LE winter box to look forward to (or not look forward to).

Not Ordering 5th Avenue Again

My box came 3 months late. Totally unacceptable. Also, I didn’t get the bag I wanted (SMH, really wait 3 months and get the 2nd bag choice??? and that bag was no $200+ bag). Save your money people. Nothing to see here.

Wow…I don’t even know what to think about some of these comments. First of all, let me put it out there that I am not an employee of 5th Ave. I am just a plain ole’ box addict like most everyone on here. Just wanted to make sure that was clear. So, that being said, and as someone who orders from 5th Ave, let me say this:

1) This box is not a scam. In any way, shape, form, or fashion.

2) Who would want this box, you ask. Many of us…that’s who. I love 5th Ave. boxes. They are unique and interesting and have introduced me to some amazing brands. I will most likely order this box. I just wanted a couple more spoilers before I made the commitment.

3) Yes, their shipping is awful (sorry Jennifer, but it kinda is). They do tell you one date and it typically ends up being 2 to 3 months later. But it is absolutely true that each box is curated on individual tastes and they do have to rely on other vendors. I am still waiting on my Autumn box. I email them every couple of weeks. They always, always, always respond. Does it get a little frustrating? Sure it does. I really want my Autumn Box but I hold out high hopes it will be worth the wait. Obviously, if you don’t have some patience for this type of delay, this isn’t the box for you. I believe I’m on my third or fourth box with them and I’m pretty sure none of them has ever shipped on time. But, I’m willing to wait. And so I continue to order.

4) So let me get this straight…a couple of people come on here to throw out very negative comments on a box they’ve never ordered that they don’t know much about and the 5th Ave. CS person (Jennifer), who is simply addressing the issues that were tossed out, is the troll???? That would be laughable if it weren’t so ridiculous.

Ok. I’m done. For those of you that like the box but don’t want to drop this much money on a box (which I totally get), try getting one of their Mystery Boxes. They are usually significantly cheaper and typically have cool stuff. I also suggest paying the membership fee for the year. You can usually get a small discount on it and your first box pretty much covers what you pay for the membership vs. what you pay for the box. Even if you only purchase one or two boxes throughout the year, you end up saving a lot of money.

Andrea

I ordered a limited edition box back in August, and my box was shipped to me about 1 month late. (They blamed the delay on Hurrican Irma, then they blamed the delay on Evocateur being behind with shipping.) Now my Purple Limited Edition Box is not shipping this week as advertised. They are blaming Evocateur again, because they are “behind” due to the holidays. They also gave me some lame exscuse about how “customized boxes” take extra time. The problem I have with their business practices is their lack of honesty and communication. If there was a shipping delay, they should of notified me. I know I’m not the only customer with this issue and complaint. Now it’s the holidays, and I seriously doubt my order will arrive by Christmas. Their lack of communication and concern about shipping delays makes me angry. They think because they offer customized boxes, this is an exscuse for shipping delays. I spent almost $500.00 on a box that I have not received, and they want to get snarky when I ask about the new shipping timeframes. This company acts like they are doing me a favor by existing.

Dear Andrea,

You actually asked us to hold that box until after the Hurricane Irma passes your area in Florida and we did just that.
Your current box was planned to ship starting this week, and we are not late yet. We honestly notified you that we might have a delay answering your email on the first business day after it was received (we got it last Saturday.)
We have to admit that we can be late with our boxes but when it happens, we often send gifts and/or add extra value there.
Even though the number of our orders is increasing each month, our goal is not only to maintain quality but make it better all the time.
We value you as a client and want to make sure that you are happy. Please communicate with us directly for any questions.

Thank you,
5th Avenue Style Team

You are not telling the complete story. I contacted customer service and there was a shipping delay with Evocateur. After the hurricane I had to contact customer service again because my box failed to ship as planned. I forgot to mention earlier not only was my box late, you sent me the wrong item. I have all the emails so I would be more than happy to post the back and forth communication that transpired. Why can’t you just admit that your shipping procedures need improving? Why can’t you notify your customers of shipping delays? Better communication and honesty would go a long way with your customers.

Natalya

I would love this box, but it is just out of my budget right now. I am a big fan of 5th Ave boxes, and have ordered few boxes from them. Not a single box disapppointed me. I wish this box was offered somewhere in the mid of the year, as with Christmas my expenses are already very high that I just cannot squeez $$$ for this box. 5th Ave, please, do similar box in mid year 🙂

Dear Natalya,

We are happy that you enjoy your boxes. Thank you for your kind words.
Not long ago we introduced luxury home accessories and will continue working with it.
There will be more boxes like this but current deep discount we cannot always offer to clients. This time it was done for the Cyber Monday.
Please communicate with us directly; we might be able to create some special deal for you later.

Again, thank you for your feedback and appreciation.

Dear Jill,

Of course, you can find agate bookends even for $10, but that is not what we ship.

The value is determined by the quality of agate, the size, and the place where it is mined (location of the deposit)
We hope that it explains it and will be happy to see you as one of our clients.

Thank you,

Dear Cindy,

Any of the items in this box have never been sold at TJ Maxx. It’s only being sold in luxury stores in the US and internationally.

Jennifer, could you elaborate on the Daum France item. The picture shows very beautiful vases, but I doubt that is what is being sent. I sense a “bait and switch”. Also the weight if each of the bookends.
