My stylist, Rachel, included a handwritten note telling me a little about her selections for me and mentioned she was looking forward to my feedback. She is awesome and followed up with me to make sure I loved what I received. This month, as you’ll see below, I had some fit issues and Rachel helped me exchange my original dresses for some better fitting ones.
Let’s see these dresses!
First, I took a style quiz answering questions about my size, color and style preferences, for what occasions I need dresses, etc. I also had the option to choose to talk to a stylist directly or not. I would recommend choosing yes because it was super helpful!
Avid Dresser Black and White Striped Dress - Retail Value $25? (value based on a similar style)
My first dress was this super-fitted, vertical stripe dress. This material was stretchy and smooth and the lines were straight when I unfolded it. But, when I put it on, the stripes warped with my body, accentuating everything. While I didn’t hate it, I knew I would feel self-conscious when wearing it. Plus, I couldn’t wear this to work. I did like the sleeve length and the midi length of the dress itself. Just a bit too tight for me.
Paper Crane Floral Dress - Retail Value $65? (value based on similar style)
The next dress was a floral chiffon dress in colors great for fall. I liked it and looked great with my olive boots and jacket. It was way too short to wear without some sort of bottom though. Like, exposed bits short. I tried to pass it off as a tunic with some leggings and just didn’t feel like it looked right. There also wasn’t any stretch in the chiffon overlay which made it ride up anytime I moved my arms.
It had a tan slip with adjustable straps which I appreciated so that the dress body wasn’t see through.
The mock turtleneck buttoned up in the back leaving a little keyhole in the neckline.
The sheer sleeves gathered at the wrist with elastic ruching. This same ruching was around the waist which helped to give the dress some shape.
So, after trying on this set of dresses, I contacted my stylist Rachel and explained my fit issues. She told me to send the dresses back (shipping reimbursed) and sent me two different dresses to try.
JOLIE Women's Puff Sleeve Brushed Knit Dress - Retail Value $22
I have been trying to expand my wardrobe with longer tunics to wear with leggings or tights for winter. This dress is perfect! It is long enough to wear with tights without worry of showing anything and looks cute with leggings and my tall boots. The fit is great, fitted but not tight. The fabric is a polyester/rayon/spandex blend and is very stretchy and soft.
Puff sleeves give this otherwise simple dress some attitude.
Lori & Mari Lace Bell Sleeve Dress - Retail Value $34.99 (value based on similar style)
This dress is totally out of my norm because of the lace inserts and peasant style fit, but now that I see photos, I think it’s kind of cute. The bottom half is so flowy! The fabric is 100% viscose so no stretch, but it feels so smooth and cool. The lace is fairly smooth too. The bust and upper arm area was a bit snug and took a little adjusting to get comfortable. I’ll pack this away for next spring because it isn’t quite warm enough for winter.
Perfect for twirling. I’ll wear some compression shorts under this in case of gusty winds.
The lace back insert is a fun detail that just peeks out under my hair and shows a little skin. My bra straps don’t show through very much which is great (one of my pet peeves).
Fun lace bell sleeves!
Verdict: I’m so impressed with the customer service of Avid Dresser! Rachel did a great job of working with me to find two dresses that I will wear and like. Either of these two new dresses with work well for me for many occasions like work, weekends, or an evening out. For $49.99 plus free shipping, I got two dresses picked for me that not only fit well but are perfect for my lifestyle.
