The theme of this month's box is "Strange Times." Perfect for October! I did not receive this box until well into November, but I believe that is because it is for review. Regular subscribers should have received their packages much earlier. This list was included, detailing the contents of this month's package.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness - Retail Value $9.99 (found on sale here for $6.98)

I am not usually a big fan of YA, but this one looks different and intriguing. I think it might be really good. From Amazon:

What if you aren't the Chosen One? The one who's supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?

What if you're like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.

Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week's end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

Even if your best friend is worshipped by mountain lions.

A Case for Solomon: Bobby Dunbar & the Kidnapping That Haunted a Nation by Tal McThenia & Margaret Dunbar Cutright - Retail Value $16.99 (found on sale here for $9.28)

I love a good mystery, and it's all the more fascinating when it's a true story. I just started this book, and already I cannot put it down! From Amazon:

The spellbinding story of one of the most celebrated kidnapping cases in American historyóthe kidnapping of Bobby Dunbaróand a haunting family mystery that took almost a century to solve.

THE MOST NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPING CASE IN AMERICAN HISTORY

In 1912, four-year-old Bobby Dunbar went missing in the Louisiana swamps. After an eight-month search that electrified the country and destroyed Bobbyís parents, the boy was found, filthy and hardly recogniz≠able. A wandering piano tuner was arrested and charged with kidnappingó a crime then punishable by death.

But when a destitute single mother came forward from North Carolina to claim the boy as her son, not the lost Bobby Dunbar, the case became a high-pitched battle over custodyóand identityóthat divided the South. A gripping historical mystery, A Case for Solomon chronicles the epic century-long effort to unravel the startling truth.

Classified Jumbo Pouch by Blue Q - Retail Value $9.99

This pouch is awesome! I love the look of it, and it's so unique! It's also apparently 95% post-consumer recycled materials. It has a plastic feel to it, so I think it would be great to protect papers as it's likely waterproof. It's just big enough to hold a big folder full of papers.

BOOs and Burlap Spooky Sign by Beautiful Madness Book Case - Retail Value $10?

This is really cute for Halloween. I like that Beautiful Madness includes their own exclusive and sometimes handmade items once in a while.

The Verdict: Beautiful Madness Book Case is one of my favorite subscription boxes! This month was awesome because DOUBLE BOOKS! Every time they include an extra, I'm happy! I also love how everything fit the theme so well this month without just being straight horror. The value this month comes to about $37, but that includes my estimate on the burlap wall art which may be way off. I feel like this box was a little light, but I could be wrong.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the Chapter Nineteen/December box.

Did anyone get the Beautiful Darkness? I am curious about what was in the box. I haven’t heard about the kidnapping case, but I would be interested in the book

Alex

You’re kidding yourself if you are willing to say that this box is possibly “a little light.” This isn’t nearly worth the cost of the box and the review reads like you are just trying to get more free boxes.
