We have full spoilers for the December Boxwalla Book box!
The Book Theme for December is 'From Mumbai to Shanghai'.
In December we feature two writers, one from India and another from China who will take you to Mumbai & Shanghai. There will also be a stop at Prince Edward Island with a bookish gift featuring one of our favorite childhood writers.
The December selections include:
Kiran Nagarkar's Seven Sixes are Forty Three
In this unusual novel, extraordinary Indian writer Kiran Nagarkar, inspired by the French new wave filmmakers like Godard and Truffaut, tries to divine some semblance of meaning from a crazy, puzzling world, with non linear narrations and parallel stories that sometimes collide and sometimes don't. In a way, this novel (originally written in Marathi in 1967) reads like it could've been written yesterday, which is probably an indication of just how far ahead of its time it actually was.
Eileen Chang's Half a Life Long Romance
Written in 1948 by one of the greats of modern Chinese Literature, Eileen Chang, this beautiful novel is a bittersweet tale of love between Shen Shijun and Gu Manzhen, as we laugh, cry and eat with them, in the extraordinary city of Shanghai.
Obvious State's 'A Winter Day' greeting card featuring L.M Montgomery.
The delightful greeting card 'A Winter Day' has been designed by Evan & Nichole Robertson of Obvious State. This card celebrates winter with an evocative poem called 'A Winter Day' by L.M. Montgomery and original artwork by Obvious State.
