Halloween Umaibo - (Buy a 50 pc box for $12.00)
The umaibo flavors for the fall and Halloween are corn soup! They are extra sweet from the corn flavors with a little bit of a chicken stock flavor, just like soup. Sometimes umaibo flavors can be harder to detect, but I absolutely love the corn soup ones because you really can taste so many different layers of flavor.
Pineapple Candy - (Buy a 350 g bag for $4.85)
I love pineapple so this hard candy was a sweet surprise now that they are not in season. The candy itself had that perfectly sweet flavor of pineapple, so fruity and fresh! The wrapper is Halloween themed which would make it great to give as a fun treat this season.
Chocolate Umaibo - (Buy a 30 pc box for $14.99)
Chocolate covered umaibo, now we are talking! The umaibo stick didn't have a strong flavor but instead was just a light crunchy layer. The chocolate coating was extra thick and oh so sweet! I loved the combination of the fluffy umaibo and the creamy chocolate.
Puccho Apple Candy - Retail Value $2.50 (found on sale here for $0.50)
I have received candy from the Puccho brand in other snack boxes and always love them! The gummy tastes very similar to a Starburst with that extra chewy texture. The apple flavors were so sweet, almost like a sour apple candy. A very yummy treat!
Halloween Marshmallow - Retail Value $1.00?
This cute little marshmallow has a fun cola flavored filling! The marshmallow itself is extra flat and super sweet. The cola center tastes just like the real thing with a little bitterness to it. Mixed with the sweetness of the marshmallow was very unique and fun!
Porickey - Retail Value $3.00?
These pretzel sticks are corn flavored and oh so sweet. I was a little surprised by how sweet they really are and that there was very little salt flavors. The pretzel was a bit thicker, almost like a breadstick, with a ton of crunch! While I thought this snack was a bit too sweet, my husband absolutely loved it so I was happy to share with him.
Osatsu Snack - Retail Value $3.68?
These chips are a seasonal exclusive in a sweet potato flavor. The chip itself is extra crunchy, perfect for snacking. The flavors are a little on the sweet side with lots of that yummy sweet potato flavor. These remind me of a candied sweet potato recipe you would have at Thanksgiving. So delicious!
Hot Chili Aerial - Retail Value $0.27
These chips were my favorite snack of the month. They are flavored with chilis and a total of 15 other spices! You can imagine how hot these are, but they are so delicious. I thought it was the perfect amount of heat and crunch, and there were so many in the bag that I was able to share with my husband. He also loved them! The chips themselves are a corn flavor that reminded me a lot of spicy Fritos.
Kaki no Tane - Retail Value $2.19
This snack is very common in Japan and is made with peanuts and senbei. The texture is almost like a hollow crunch, similar to a shelled peanut which was very interesting! The monthly information card says that these are an extra spicy soy sauce flavor, but I honestly didn't get much spice at all. The soy sauce flavors were very light with a mild hint of saltiness. Overall, I didn't think there was much flavor in each bite.
Doki Doki Fishing DIY Kit - Retail Value $2.59? (Price estimate based on similar DIY kit)
This DIY kit was so much fun! I had my son help me make these fish candies and he loved every minute of making it. The candy itself basically freezes when you add the water to it which makes the candy stick to the fishing pole. Once everything becomes solid, you can pick up the fishing pole to eat the candy from. The candy itself was a yummy cola flavor!
Bonus Item: Puchi-Puchi Uranai Chocolate - Retail Value $0.48 (currently out of stock)
This bonus snack was so cute! Each little ball is a candy shell that is flavored with strawberry. The center is made of a rich chocolate. I loved the mixture of strawberry and chocolate flavors together. A super fun and yummy bonus snack!
Verdict: This was my first time receiving Freedom Japanese Market and really enjoyed my first box! I thought the overall snack curation was wonderful, providing a unique look at different snacks from Japan. The origami of the month was such a cute surprise and so beautifully made. You could really tell that it was made especially for each of the month's boxes by hand. I can't wait to see what the November Freedom Japanese Market box has to offer!

Value Breakdown: This monthly box costs $24.99 with free shipping. I received a total of twelve snacks for the October box, which averages out to $2.08 per snack. The average value per item seems a bit high since a lot of the snacks were smaller in size which didn't allow for a ton of sharing. To get the overall value up a bit more, I would love to see a few larger size snacks or maybe adding a few more of the smaller snacks like this box featured.
